See what happens when a potter throws new light into an ancient art form. Bill and Maggie Finley of Finley Pottery make luminaries - pots full of holes to display light patterns.
I'm going to a Bruce Metcalf lecture here in town on Thursday! From what I've heard about him, he's a militant craftsman that believes craft should be taught entirely separately from art!
Oh this is fantastic. I want to do this. It seems to flow with poetry from the soul. I love your vids, I just found you and you have been awesome. This video about the soul from the clay is something very special. We all learn something new daily.
Very nice shapes which are beautiful whether they are cut or uncut, but I like the idea of light coming from earthen vessels, it is a spiritual creation.
i really love this......my art teacher was lookin on youtube for some neat stuff.....and she came acrossed your work here....we have been trying it out.....i am right now covered in dry clay from tryin this out after school.....and i came acrossed your work and i just had to comment that i love it.....i made my bubble tonight out of mixed clay....red white and gray.....it looks nice.....but...i couldn't get the top shut....i tryed twice today....i will soon get it....i love it very much...thanks

This is beatiful work. I am wondering though if the piece at the end of him throwith about 1:30sec in was that bisque? if so is it an agate clay mixed with stains etc? It looks beautiful :)
you mean to say they're making new technique on pottery by carving holes in it? i thought this has already been done on some parts of southeast asia--traditonal pottery. see some thai pottery videos for instance. "Baan Muang Goong Pottery Village"

Go look at what the Chinese were doing 1000 years ago! In Texas actually people ask why making a vase that doesn't hold water?? Considering that cave men knew what art is, humanity doesn't seem to have improved so much :P
those are beautiful works. I think I will incorporate the idea into my pinch pots... and thank you for putting beauty out there to be enjoyed.
I think their work is beautiful. =)
I thought that narrator was doing a parody in the first part of the video.
But I have nothing but respect for the potter... Amazing work!

Another good video! Thanks for posting it!
there is a difference between a crafter and an artist, but what this guy is doing is alittle of both. By the way, both are fun to do.
i did this with one of my own pieces in class a few months ago!! this is so cool to see someone doing it as their hobby!
Great pieces!
Lovely items, inspiring :)
This is a lovely video!!! I want to get to that point where I'm not concentrating on it like he said...I'll keep practicing : )
I used to go to the lake when I was younger. Its a beautiful area.
I can't either! I always have to take all my jewelry off.
Maybe after doing for years and years we'll be able to :-)
Fantasticno! Prelepo!

Beautiful!! How can you order one?
Storebought clay? Or hand-dug?
how do you get the candle or light in?
I don't understand how people throw with rings on...I just can't!
I get thumbs down for quoting the video?
No, really, that doesn't hold too much water :)
