Greece is also the first country achieving victory against axis, giving hope to all other countries to fight against nazism.

Actually, the Greek victory against Italy, was the first Allied victory in World War 2. It's said that Winston Churchill, the British PM back then, he said "from now and on, we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but we will say that heroes fight like Greeks". Also, the Greek victory forced the Germans to aid the Italians, which led to them losing valuable time, which was disastrous when they attacked Russia. So, we can say that in a way, Greece saved Europe.

Greece distracted Germans far more than originally planned by Hitler. Instead of him leaving here 8 divisions he was forced to leave 18. Also to complete conquer all of Greece it took him 219 days a little more than 7 months. Those 2 factors delayed the German attack in Russia and this attack was reduced due to devotion of more forces to Greece. Also despite these 10 divisions in Greece the action of Partizan resistance with the help from England of course was didn’t affect at least the vast actions of sabotages. Definitely support to corps Africa was affected almost crippled I should say because the convoys of ships had to depart only from Italian ports and the allied subs where concentrated only there. As was the Greek sub Papanikolis a legend of the Greek navy. But that’s a story for another time.
My father lived through the war in Grecce! He was a child, but has many interesting stories of his village being occupied, its a miracle he survived! Your content is very charming and interesting!

After taking over France and Poland in a few weeks, The Third Rich was attacking Russia, then it had to divert to Greece to help Italy.
By the time the troops returned to the Eastern Front in what is now Ukrane, it was October and rain and snow had started, No roads were built and the troops got stuck in the mud. No Joke! Then the Rusians (Soviets at that time), attacked them all the way back to Berlin.

Best horror movie ever, even Victoria could watch: little shop of horrors! Bill Murray, Steve Martin, Rick Moranis. *It's a must see.*

Girls you have to visit Kalamata and Mani in general and taste roasted small pork and in Mani taste the smoked one and a recipe with orange in it. You will be amazed despite the fact that in Livadeia is supposed to produce the best pork in Greece.

@@athenswives even better if you attend a local panigiri in the Summer. The area has also spectacular caves of Diros and the small port of Sparta Gytheio. Very cozy and nice place. Like mikrolimano in Pireas.

Italy attacked /invaded Greece (from the north) so Greece had to ''enter'' the WW2. IF it wasn't for Greece's victory over Italy (Mussolini) which forced Germany (Hitler) to employ critical military units in Greece and waste valuable time so that winter came and Russia had more time to prepare ,the turn of the WW2 (and the world as we know it!) might be whole different now!

Gyros or pizza? What a difficult dilemma my goodness.Personally i can not make up my mind. The last horror movie that i saw was Barbarian (2022) and it was really good. If you believe you can endure, the fear psychology, that is my recommendation. Regards from Milos.

We don't celebrate the end of WW2 because we had civil war right after and of course Greece manage to win the war against Italy which had far better army . This was big deal at the beginning of the war.

There wasn't civil war after WW2 It was a war against a bunch of traitors who wanted to turn Greece into a facist communist counntry. Freedom pevailed.
actually no is an ancient greek word you can find it in compound words such as νηστεύω νη+εσθίω=τρωγω,νηστεία ancient meaning is abstain from food,modern meaning don't eat meat,eggs and milk, in holy week most greek are fasting νηστευουν and also every wednesday and friday
οther words are νηνεμία(νη+ανεμος) no wind ,νήπιο (νη+έπος=λογος) toddler, νηπενθής (νη+πένθος) exempt from mourning

The story girls is that this Prime Minister Metaxas was educated in Germany and he was also a facist. But he didn’t have any respect especially for Mussolini and his crazy ideas. Before the ultimatum was placed in the summer during the festivities of Holy Mary in 15th of August to the uninamous monastery in Tinos where people from all over Greece flock there to pay their respects to the Virgin Mary the Italian submarine Delfino torpedoed and sunked in the port of Tinos the lite Greek Destroyer ELLI and killed 1 petty officer 8 sailors and caused a heart attack to an elder lady on the peer of the island who died also. Later on Greek divers found pieces of the torpedoes that bared the name of the sub but the Greek government chose not to reveal neither the name of the culprit sub nor its nationality in order not to provoke Italy. But 2 days after the war with Italy broke out they announced it. In the beginning of this war the Italians broke the first defences and tried to march towards Thessaloniki but they were pinned down by fierce resistance of the Greek troops. The same happened to the main front despite the fact that Greek was far less equipped not only in guns and ammo but to support also. Despite the very harsh snow conditions they m as managed to win multiple times and drive back to Albania all the Italians forces and even capture entire cities and many hundreds of captured Italian soldiers and officers. Mussolini's attack had failed big time so this made Nazi Germany and Hitler get involved in order to keep the icon of the Axis restored even though he didn't want in the beginning to open a front on the south before conquering Russia. So he sent more and more troops and artillery and planes in order to break the Greek lines especially the fortress build to the north with the borders with Jugoslavia and Bulgaria. Finally on April 9th 1941 the front line and the bunkers of Metaxa line surrendered to the mighty German forces after the most cruel battles in the Western front and the Germans first in their history throughout the Second World War let the captured Greeks leave and their officers allowed to hold their personal guns. Later on English Prime Minister Winston Churchill said that the Greek resistance offered a lesson to the whole free world and supposed to have said that Heroes fight like Greeks do. But it wasn't confirmed that he personally said that but instead someone subordinate to Churchill.

It was the beginning of dark days. Six months later German occupation started. A lot of haulocosts happened by them.
Tangent: Did you folks manually put in subtitles or did CZcams recognize your speech and offer the subtitles? I bought a Swedish DVD (Masjävlar, which on the box says it comes with English subtitles) I found out that the dialogue in the film does have English subtitles, but the director's commentary track does not have any subtitles. I'm wondering if CZcams can now understand Scandinavian audio and give me useful English subtitles.
