    hi girls
When you say to a pregnant woman kali leuteria it means that you wish her to have a good birth that will free her body from the baby she was carrying inside her...for 9 months
Another wish is : na sas zisi ...who means i wish your baby to have a long life ... becouse many years before many babies die for flow or child diseases...
As for the evil eye which is normally called Vaskania in Greek .. it is the bad energy that some people can transmit to you ..
If someone takes such a bad energy, his head and eyes usually hurt... and of course depons etc. don't do anything for you
There is a specific methodology to get rid of bad energy, you just have to apply it to someone who knows...
And you now : the greek orthodox church has a specific wish for Vaskania ( bad eye) ..So the official church believes in bad energy of some People ...
The end of the orthodox church wish ( its to long ) about evel eye:
I am not afraid of evil, when you are with me. that you are the God, my ruler, mighty ruler, prince of peace, father of the age to come". Yes, Lord our God, have mercy on your creature and save your servant from all harm and influence of oppression, and above all protect him from all evil. embassies of the most blessed, glorious Lady of our Theotokos and eternal Mary, of the light Archangels and all your Saints. Amen.
You must not have any complains ...
    I do my best 😂😂😂😂😂

the evil eye can be really dangerous especially to the person who does the prayer because he sucks the evil eye......my nan was saying give me ur jumper and then she was tying a knot in my sleeve she was saying some hocus pocus she was starting to yawn and i was feeling so much better but the superficial element was that the knot was moving by itself when i had the evil eye few centimetres on the left or right!!!!!! scary

We also have a good time with your walks and remember our own moments with the strollers...
So to learn a few of our customs (we have many).
    1) The eye (mati), or vaskania, has to do with the submission of electromagnetism, from one brain to another. It usually does not come from bad thoughts but from admiration for the other (a cute baby, a nice woman/man, jealousy etc.). Some people - like me - easily accept this submission and soon feel unwell (heaviness in the chest or headache), others are not affected at all. In the first case there are some arcane words that repel this strange energy from the person who has received it, this is called "xematiasma / disentanglement". These arcane words are always conveyed from a woman to a man or vice versa, never to the same sex. The blue eye is supposed to drive away this bad energy, that's why they wear it on babies who are vulnerable, and it comes from Ancient Greece. Also, the people believe that by making the sign of the cross, you drive away "evil". Finally, by imitating spitting, we spit at the devil and evil spirits in the eyes, dispelling them.
    2) When a woman is pregnant, the usual wishes are:
    a) with good = all goes well b) good liberty = give birth / be freed easily c) with a pain = I wish your pain is one or none
    3) When the baby comes into the world, everyone wishes: Long live (the baby) for you ! This wish lasts from the time when in Greece (and elsewhere) there was a high infant mortality (1700 - 1900 AD) mainly in the villages and so people gave birth to 8-10 children so that half of them would live!
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Boy and Girls you are amazing.Ftou-ftou.
Kali lephteria =καλή λευτεριά , literally mean ''good Liberty'' ,but even ''the goddess of childbirth be good with you''.
From ancient Greek goddess Eleftho - Ελευθώ , the goddess of childbirth , and from the name of the goddess comes the word Eleftheria = Liberty.
    Ancient custom that still exists.

You are correct ,"me ena pono" means exactly what you thought . They are wishing the baby is born with only one pain. You were right about all the evil eyes things too. "Kali lefteria" is wishing you to be free of the burden-pain of pregnancy

Spitting and the Evil Eye. A young baby is perfect and susceptible to the evil eye. When you spit, no longer perfect undesirable from the evil eye. That's how my grandmother explained it to me. She would recite the prayer to remove it.

03:06 - At least the grandmother she did not do the Phtou or Ftou and spit three times on the baby!
    - Mati is the eye and 'Matiasmeno' is like you said 'jinks-it !'
    - Kali leuteria means separation from the baby and also good birth
    - Na sas zisi is plural and the polite form of Na sou zisi (singular) means that the baby should have a long life It is from the old days when the baby and often the mother did survive the birth or died for child diseases.
