- $900 Sparco seat vs. $450 Corbeau seat. Does more expensive mean more better? And is it worth it? Let’s find out.
We bought two identical 350Zs and have been modifying them to be FUN, daily drivers that you can take to the track. James Pumphrey and Zach Jobe are on Team Hi, and their car gets the expensive parts. Nolan Sykes and Aaron Parker are on team Low. Their car gets the cheap ones.
Then we test them to see which components are actually worth spending the money on.
We’ve been focusing on improving our cars performance, but today we’re focusing on the interior...performance. So we’re going to be throwing in new seats, and ALSO adding in roll cages and harnesses.
Team Hi got $900 Sparco QRT-R seats.
Team Low I got $450 Corbeau FX1 Pro seats.
Cars aren’t necessarily one-size-fits all. Especially small sports cars like our Zs. You might find the stock driving position uncomfortable. Sometimes the seats don’t hold you well enough going around a corner and you get flung to the side. If you’ve got short legs and a long torso, or long legs and a short torso, things just might not feel right.
That’s where aftermarket interior parts can come in. A race seat can hold you in place better and make it easier for you to corner hard… or it can be horribly uncomfortable if it doesn’t fit your body right. Maybe the more expensive seat has a nicer quality material on it, but the overall shape and size of the seat is really going to be a matter of personal preference. The cheaper seat might be the right choice anyway if it’s going to be easier to live with and drive in every day.
Even though Nolan is going with a cheaper option he didn't go with the cheapest option. All of his stuff is FIA approved.

Was working on a friend's AW11 doing rear suspension bushings. Should have taken like 8 hours tops to do everything, but turned into a 3 day ordeal trying to get one stupid hardened steel bolt out.
@Zane Winyard frozen bolt on my brake caliper, same situation should have taken 30 minutes tops turned into a day of trying to unfreeze the bolt

I had that exact Corbeau seat in my racecar for a year. Loved it. First race was a 2 hour endurance race, and the comfort part helped greatly. I’d happily get those seats again.

I actually really like my Corbeau seat. Great price for a FIA certified seat. Was a nice change not holding on for dear life sliding around my OEM seat on the track.
Corbeau is the one company that makes a good cheap seat. And they've got decent looking models too.

@@jonbanaitis2992 that must have changed recently, because that was the sole reason I bought it at that price point (4 years ago) was because it was FIA approved.
@@jonbanaitis2992 They did in fact make FIA Approved seats that were about $200 more than the non approved versions. I dont see nearly as many now on their website, looks like it changed. Also I totally Expected something from NRG which like you said would've made it a much Lower to Higher comparison lol

I love you guys and what separates you from the rest of car media in general is obviously your humor, but I think your honesty with us goes under-appreciated. edit: i was thinking it was a smaller seat size like the lowest headrest setting in a stock seat
@@Eduardo_Espinoza They make the bottom cushion thinner. Saves you about an inch. The back and headrest are unchanged.

I believe they shave the frame or something like that, to give an additional inch of head room, but the option is on selected seats, IIRC; however, I could be wrong on both accounts, it's been a while since I ran with a Corbeau.

To be a "Hot Boi" you have to have the branded stuff on your car that will look aesthetically pleasing (Sparco Seats looks a lot better than the stock ones). Again he isn't really talking about "having Heated seats" but being "cool/having a cool car with the racing seats".
10:09 hit me right in the feels. Considering I've spent the past several months on an engine refresh for my z that should have taken a few weekends. I'm hitting roadblock after roadblock but knowing I'll get it back on the road, and on the track makes it all worth it.

When I was in the market for seats, I thought I wanted the sparco evo 3’s until I sat in them. Super uncomfortable and too tight. I ended up with corbeau fx1 pros and they fit way better and are comfortable enough for long drives to the track. Everyone that sits in them says the same thing.
swisher5weet I had an old set of used corbeau seats don’t know the model , but they where super comfy and I loved them , better than any oem seat I ever sat in and held you like a gentle hug, after that next bucket seats I buy will also be corbeau

yeah this is probably the first time they did instead of hi/low did a hi/mid, since corbeau is still considered a good quality seat vs a $250 dollar pair from ebay lol. luv the show but many of the other things they have done also have a mid level cost that could be just as good as the hi but better than the low
What Aaron said at 4:00 about the seats supporting not your legs really blew my mind. I’m 6’5” and this is how I’m forced to drive every every car I’ve ever been in, it never occurred to me that the seat was supposed to hold the weight

Handgun777 weight reduction does improve performance though. At 100 pounds thats a good chunk of weight that will make the car feel slower since the engine has to carry it and now that it doesnt its more efficient. More efficient = more acceleration. Take a couple hundred pounds off a truck and tell me it doesnt perform better.

I put a pair of Corbeau GTS II sport seats in my '89 Camaro to replace the factory seats (which had definitely seen better days). Night and day improvement. The Corbeaus are super comfortable and very supportive. I'd happily recommend them to anyone.

I switched from a corbeau fx1 to a OMP hte-R and I knocked .5 of a sec of my avg time just in comfort and stability so I can attest to a high quality seat... street car or auto cross I would go with the corbeaus again but racing I'm only going with halos and tall sides
I think the Corbeau is great for those that like spirited driving around the city and the sparco for the more racers that really need that seat to bolster them in place.
