Sony SCD-777ESD - great SACD player. Well made and engineered. And the effort that went into loader!

After replacing the most expansive and possibly the rarest laser ever - the KHS-180A - it would not work at all. Trying to read T.O.C. and correctly recognizing the type of disc (CD or SACD) but not succeeding.
Having read the manual and before embarking on adjustments (which I promised myself not getting involved in), I tested capacitors on the servo and main boards.
All small value SMD ones (10µF /16V) and 22µF / 6.3V) had very high values of ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance). At least 3 times higher but some up to 10 times.
Bad news for the owner as I simply do not have time to re-cap and then make up rigs to do the new laser adjustments.
Old laser was probably OK (fault being leaky capacitors), until the previous repairer decided to have a look inside. Sadly, it is mangled.
