  • Brilliant performance from West Ham on live TV as they come from behind to beat Manchester United. West Ham: Parkes, Parris, Walford, Gale, Martin, Devonshire, Ward, McAvennie, Dickens, Cottee, Pike

Proper atmosphere. Proper football. Proper tackles. Proper excitement. Proper highlights.
None of this 5 minute Match Of The Day rubbish showing a player doing 20 step overs and then rolling around in agony when someone brushes his eyelash.
There WAS football before the Premier League

Football generates much more money today, has a global audience, pitches are of a high quality standard as are the stadiums however the atmosphere and fan connection with the players today cannot even equal the atmosphere and unique experience back then, proper atmosphere and natural atmosphere. I recall watching this game live on TV and I don’t support either team but it was a brilliant match to watch.

Sitting in the kitchen 7:00a.m. Waiting for coffee to brew and watching this!!! Lol I actually jumped off my stool and was pumping my fist and silently celebrating as to not wake the little ones hahaha. You would have thought it was 1986 hahaha. Everything about this club makes me smile!!! #ComeOnYouIrons #COYI #foreverblowingbubbles

The most breathless game, plus great commentary by the great brian moore.
How cottee did not score when he hit the post.

@pbr streetgang It was like that all the way around, we used to offer sweets and peanuts to the players from the Chicken Run. I once remember Trevor Brooking's bum was about a foot from my face in the North Bank, a lasting memory!

The first time I went there was 92. We lost the league. The 2nd time was 94 and we got chased outside before some fucker threw a hammer into our end from above. The 3rd time was 95. We lost the league. Yeah, not my favourite place in the world.

Watched this on telly live on BBC1 aged 12 (Dorset West Ham fan). Still one of the best games I've ever seen; us and Man U just went at each other end-to-end from start to finish. My cat was sleeping by the fire peacefully until Wardy scored, my celebrations nearly gave him a heart attack.

Anyone who thinks that Premier League football, for all its money, lavish stadia, foreign stars and obsession with statistics, is more exciting than the old First Division, should take a look at this match and listen to the crowd.

I remember the chicken run for 2 reasons. The first was Wurzel who used to sell the monkey nuts before the game and second the bloke at 1.36 with the loud voice. It must be him. You could hear him all around the ground😅
    Great days and great memories.👍

In January 1969, the new East Stand replaced the famous 'Chicken Run' terrace - an area of the ground where fans were stood very close to the pitch, allowing them to make life very uncomfortable for opposition wingers!

    Hello robert
Marc from on the terraces here, just came across your community, how you doung ?
Heard anything from gary lately ? You still going ? Ive not been to new ground, and though i obciously miss the social aspect of following the hammers, im not bothered about everything else.
Im very disappointed -to put it mildly - with moyes not being backed by sullivan last transfer window, our best chance ever of top 4 spot gone for the sake of £20m or so; we shouldve tempted manure by dangling prospect of rice deal in summer.
I dont know why theres not been talk of moyes quiting in summer, on top of now obvious cashing in on rice, hes been shafted by board after having lifted club from relegation possibles to champions league possibles. Newcastle, spurs, even return to manure could easily persuade moyes to leave.
Anyway rob, hope youre well and find time to read and reply. Cheers marc

What you on about? The away end is full both pens. I’ve been there when we’ve only had the end pen. Cracking away support as always from United. Brave too cos West Ham would have a go at any away fans in them days.
