    I remember this game. Despite being a Mag, I burst out laughing when I heard the score.
    Nice to finally see some footage of it.

    Just watched Brazil partially cheat their way to victory in the world cup against Croatia so it's lovely to watch some real footballers. Loved it when that Mag threw the ball at McAvennie's head after the goal, no complaints, just real men playing the beautiful game.

    I was there in the SE corner.. Newcastle were at rock bottom and could even field a fit keeper to begin with.
    Good to see 442.These days we would have some wierd formation.

    Remember this night vividly. What an atmosphere! Fair play to the Newcastle fans who didn't stop singing all night neither even chanting 1-5 1-5 1-5 1-6 as Goddard ghosted in to score - great humour. Should also add Beardsley was the best of the three keepers on show for the visitors. Wonderful memories :-)

      I was there too and spot on comments there Redhill67, Beardsley was our best goalkeeper and although there was no love lost at that time between us and West Ham the Hammers supporters applauded us at full-time. Always loved walking down Green Street to the Boleyn, even on a Monday night as that was. And walking back to Upton Park Underground or to Plaistow and The Victoria and the little bar over the road (Kings Arms ????) now demolished. Great times, we'd been at Chelsea on the Saturday, two great days/nights out. Proper supporters The Hammers.

    I was there. Newcastle had to use three goalkeepers because of injury - Peter Beardsley was the best of them on the night. Alvin Martin scored a hat trick - scored against each keeper I believe.

    Chris Hedworth was playing only his fourth game for Newcastle when he was made emergency goalkeeper after Martin Thomas failed to come out for the second half (This was back in the days when there was no specialist goalkeeper substitute). Hedworth fell awkwardly and cracked his collarbone in a challenge with Cottee. He played on, until he saved a McAvennie shot and couldn’t continue. With no more substitutions allowed, Hedworth had to spend the rest of the game as an unused outfield player and Peter Beardsley went in goal.

    i went with 2 mates,one of em bought his g/f and she pleasured him on the back seat on the way home,never forget that night,biggest cheer as i recall was when newcastle scored and all the hammers started singing newcastle songs to gee em up

  • @TONJOLxpat
    @TONJOLxpat Před 2 lety

    I was there and am surprised just how the GREIGHT RESULT was reported. Newcastle had to field all those on the bench and Peter Beardsley was the goalkeeper for some time. On top of that they were down to eight players on the field at times. West Ham were the better team on the night BUT that game should have been cancelled to be fair.

    remember it well,spent the whole season bunking into the west side upper but as it got near the end of the season and we was still doing well it got harder to find a seat spent most of the 2nd half dodging stewards

  • @4th_Lensman_of_the_apocalypse

    Tje fear out
    R midfields and forward ps instilled in the Newcastle goalkeepers that two were so overwhelmed they had to be carried off and sub’d. Newcastle dont bother even brining goalies to West Ham anymore. It’s less humiliating…
