    I think it's important to clarify my stance. Eliminating bottlenecks to determine absolute performance of two parts IS important, and IS the proper way to do it.
    My video was saying consumers could benefit from *additional* testing and data with real-world hardware matches.
    I did not advocate one over the other as the only way you should test.

    The chip is a 5800x 3d with 2 disabled cores. They had a bunch of failed 5800x3d chips that instead of trashing they put on the market. Kudos to them for making use of the silicon.

      it doesn't matter whether it's 5800X3D with 2 cores disabled or 5600X with added cache, because both is true, since any 5600 is just 5800 with disabled/defective cores.

      @@Fenrirsleash All of the chiplets are the same, they bin for frequency and voltage and fuse off the cores that are bad. If it is an odd number they will fuse off a second one to keep cache access level. Essentially, a 7-good 1-bad chiplet will then becomes a 6 core. Anything going below 4 will probably be discarded and I doubt its common. The only ones with a different design are the APUs which is why they can sometimes clock memory much higher than the standard desktop parts.

    It's an interesting limited edition chip - a nice unexpected send off. I wouldn't hop through all the hassle of import fees, customs fees, etc to get one - simply is not worth it. Which is fine, as availability of the 5800X3D seems healthy here. But for 'Mericans near a micro center, it's not a bad option to consider (pending a number of things).

  • @BaronCAD
    @BaronCAD Před 9 měsíci +2

    I bought this same chip a month ago (Boston area, US). Only reason was because it was a Microcenter combo deal (total was $330 for the cpu + b550 motherboard + 16gigs of 3200 RAM). I also shelled out $40 for a deepcool ak400 cooler. I've been slowly upgrading this machine in my den for gaming and media content, basically a 'hand me down' system from my office desk, previously running an Intel 8700 setup. This old machine wasn't keeping up well with the 3070ti leftover that I put in it after upgrading my main office machine to a 7900xtx, and the 5600x3d felt like a perfect pairing for the last-gen nVidia card. I'd never buy this combo if I was building an entirely new system, but given I already had a nice GPU, psu, case, and storage, it just happened to be in the right place at the right time to let me game in 4K at decent fps on my couch.

  • @terr281
    @terr281 Před 9 měsíci

    Living in the USA, but a few hours from a Microcenter store, I took a trip to the closest one for one of said combo's for a mostly new build at a good price for my needs. The CPU went into an existing socket AM4 board as a gaming based upgrade for one computer, and the ram & board were used in a different computer as a home file server / living room entertainment PC. The situation worked out well for me. However, as you noted, for many... this wouldn't be the case (even if someone is relatively close to a store). Good review.

    • @rustyshakelford1466
      @rustyshakelford1466 Před 9 měsíci

      This CPU or even the 5800X3D don't really use more power than a 3600 (for thermal considerations anyways). If anything the 65W rating for the 3600 is a bit low and the 100W rating for the X3D chips is a bit high. Remember they are thermal limited by design more than other CPUs, and the 3600 actually exceeds it's usual power draw more often because it tries to boost harder. In my experience you can drop these X3D CPUs in the same board with the same cooler as a 3600/2700 system or anything on the "lower-end". It makes it an even better deal because as was shown you can use these even in the cheapest motherboards just fine. Just use a cooler with actual fins and heatpipes instead or the cheapest block coolers. If you're using these on a cheap mobo with little VRM cooling, try to use a downdraft cooler if possible, it will help with board temps. Also look into negative voltage offset using curve optimizer, it will lower temps as well.

Heck I’d like to see how the 5600X3D fared against the 2 most sought after high-end CPUs, the 7950X3D ($653.98 US@MC) and the i9-13900K ($566.98 US@MC)

      I suspect in either case the 3D-Vcache would make games run better except maybe if you're running tasks in the background or the game is especially multi-threaded. But yeah you should definitely confirm that is the case before making the switch.

      I take your point but there is an explanation. If I take data from a few months ago of a CPU running Cinebench R23 I can be confident the part will still run at X GHz pulling Y Watts and scoring Z result. The same is not necessarily true of gaming tests as the both games and drivers are updated quite regularly so you have to mix and match data carefully. Ideally we retest everything from scratch for every project but there are practical limitations.

      The Ryzen 5 5600X3D is better in every gaming scenario we have seen than the regular 5600X. You are quite correct that an improvement in 1% lows is more useful than jacking up the average from 120fps to 150fps (or whatever). The small downside is that 3D chips have lower clocks speeds and that hurts general computing performance.

    • @dawienel1142
      @dawienel1142 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Yeah the 1% lows were worrying especially compared to the averages, was still significantly better than the 5600x though.
      tbh if the 1% lows are close to 100 then it shouldn't be a bother to most, but I personally am sensitive to such things and even needed to optimize the hell out of my 5800x3D/3080Ti system to fully get rid of them.
      Who knew going 160Hz+ gaming was gonna turn me into a FPS snob, but yeah can't take even a 60 fps 1% low hit these days and can feel 1% low hits in games when there is a big delta between it and the averages so I found 0.1% lows of above 60 (1% lows above 90) to be very responsive and basically stutter free in my experience.
      Luckily with a clean/optimized Windows 10 system, both my CPU and GPU undervolted and 32GB 3800CL16 RAM (tuned with tight timings) I am experiencing no stuttering these days with the exception of specific games that stutter on everything like some UE4 based games that get shader compilation stutters and even then its generally a better experience than most posts I see online about bad performance.
      Forspoken was giving me some serious headaches recently, but I found its down to my 12GB GPU memory buffer along with crazy high requirements that caused the issue, after I dropped the resolution to 1440p (native) from 3419x1080 (DLDSR) I normally prefer in my games, it was sulky smooth with no lag spikes around 100 FPS using DLSS set to quality and optimized settings though.

    All these ryzen CPU's, R5's + R7's and only 1 i5 Intel CPU? Why not include the i7 13700? What is it you are trying to show? I mean, the 7800x3d and 13700k have less then a $20 price difference so I can safely say that cost DEFINATELY isn't the reason you didn't include it. Why not include the 13500 or the 13400? Hell, why not include some 12th gen parts also since you went back 1 generation to AM4? Look, I'm going to go ahead call out the elephant in the room here.. It's fine that your channel is all about 1 brand; just be upfront about and don't bother including "select" competition parts that chosen in order to make your preference look good as possible. If you wish to be a channel that is all about Ryzen then just be a channel only about Ryzen. Otherwise reviews like this come off as with the singular purpose of slandering the other brand.
