  • An ascent of Ben Vane from Inveruglas at Loch Lomond
    A great day heading up ben vane. The day started out a little damp but soon brightened up. The pace is initially quick as the first few miles are walked on the power station access road and the miles flew by. When the "real" ascent started, my pace slowed considerably. Many a breather was required on the route up! Every time i turned around, the views were spectacular. Even in poorer weather, the views over Loch Lomond and beyond are amazing.
    On the descent after lunch, i found the going to be a little tougher on my knees. There is a fair amount of large steep steps down and this started to ache a little towards the end. The going was good, and the path was easy to follow once on the hill.
    I didn't feel too exhausted at the finish as i think the less strenuous stroll back down the access road managed to sooth some aches before i got to the car.
    Definitely a summer conditions walk for me. I think tackling this one in winter would be beyond my skills.
    Overall, a great day and a very characterful Munro.

    Cheers for that. You have gave me more confidence in this munro as lots of others have said it's really difficult.

      Hi Marco McLean. Give it a go and see how it is for you. There’s always the option to turn back but I’m sure you’ll be fine! Thanks for watching! 🙏🏻 😊

    Great video thanks for sharing! This Munro i want to do this year, but everyone says it very difficult. Any tips?

      Hi Stuart. The mountain has loads of character and can be a little daunting, but I personally found it great fun! There’s a few hands on rock sections near the top but with careful navigation and favorable weather I’m sure you’ll love it. Thanks for watching. ATB. 😊

    Vane would be my last Munro within the area. I've always been very apprehensive of this one due to the scrambling. For a novice like me what's your opinion on this?

    • @mountainspeak390

      Hi Marco. I think there’s a stigma attached to Ben Vane that it doesn’t fully deserve. I’m not the strongest scrambler but I genuinely found it to be ok. It’s not the hardest climb I’ve done but not the easiest. I would recommend not doing this in winter as a novice and wait for a good warm dry day in Spring or Summer. As always this is just my opinion and there are so many variables to consider. Please stay safe and happy hiking.

      @@mountainspeak390 yeah my thoughts exactly in terms of when to do this. Will wait till the warmer days to give it a go.

    What app is it ur using for maps?

    • @mountainspeak390
      @mountainspeak390  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi @Brian Stewart, I'm using OS Maps combined with a hardcopy of the OS Map. I usually pre plan my own route and download it on the app before setting off. What's your preference? There's so many to chose from now!

      @@mountainspeak390 I pre plan using Google earth then download some maps from walking highlands. I'll check out the one that ur using too. Cheers for the info.
