PREMODERN MTG: ELVES: Deck Tech

Usually when you think of combos you dont think of mono green, but throw some elves down onto the board and start to generate crazy amounts of mana, which you can then use to tutor up some game enders with this classic fan favourite (practically) mono green deck.

Elves have always been my favourite. My current elf deck is not your typical hated one, as it’s similar to the one I played back in the early 2000’s, when I was a young lad drinking blue Pepsi.
4x Llanowar Sentinels, a taunting elf, and an overrun. My classic 20 point kill back in the day :)

Love the great work that you are doing for PreModern Format! I used to play against mono G elves, although GR combination is fascinating with Anger and Survival. I am definitely going to check it out!

Any tips about how to build it without gaea's cradle? I love elves but that land is extremely expensive. I'm thinking about building a mono green version instead of survival.

Kamahl and Masticore can also team up to give "2G: Destroy target land".

That's true, usually they would be dead by then but it's a nice option to have sometimes

Weirdly I thought it was banned but it's not. I think it's probably just not that good in this deck because it doesn't run loads of lands and 1 needs to be a mountain to give our stuff haste. Plus cradle isn't a forest and Rofellos is legendary. I would imagine that priest of titania is much better but I'm also a little surprised Rofellos isn't a 1 of

I've played a bit of Rofellos as a 1-of, he's not bad at all and extremely thematic! Less explosive than the stock 4-of mana producers, but a totally fine inclusion if you ask me.

@@grimgaming5497 Yeah I think he is one of those cards that no one considers because they just assume hes banned. Especially when they don't see him in the lists online. I'm kind of surprised that he isnt banned but I guess he isnt really that crazy in the format

@@IPlayMagic he's only banned in commander. As a commander he is ridiculous. I think he could work in this deck if you don't have money for 4 cradles.

Great video! I've wanted to build a deck around Kamahl since getting into the format, and it seems like an elf deck is the best way to go. Being on a budget, though, would you still say this deck is viable without Gaea's Cradle, Survival of the Fittest (possibly swapped out for Living Wish?) and Deranged Hermit?

Those are some of the strongest cards in the deck so it will definitely be a lot less powerful without them. I've seen people play elves without cradles before and it still worked but I would imagine that losing survival (and the tutor targets like anger) would mean that you need to build the deck a little differently. Personally I wouldn't build elves without those cards but I always advise people to play what they think is fun

I don't have gaea and survival because it's expensive, what can I do in this case?

There is another version of elves called food chain elves. It doesn’t use either of those. It’s still not that well known but you can find it on tc decks (there’s at least 1 under elf decks and some in the rouge section). I would play the food chain version if I didn’t have survival or cradle

Yeah in the process of making the next one, I wont be able to make them as often as before but I havent stopped. Im hoping I will be able to get to the point of multiple (or at least 1) per week gain though
