- On September 19th 2552, a UNSC Light Cruiser would jump away from the overrun planet of Reach in a blind and random jump. Where she came out would change the fate of humanity and the war raging in our galaxy forever. The lose of the ship was but a necessity to preserve life as we knew it. Uuuuhhhhhhh !!!!! , I had no idea what UNSC stood for !? Destroying my brain trying to think what UNSC stood for ?! So I listened and enjoyed the sci-fi story and learned something ! I do love history but every once in a while I could enjoy something like this, not bad !
If you are doing SciFi ship horror you HAVE to do Star Trek's Battle of Wolf 359 where 39 Starfleet ships and 14,000 or so crew got ripped apart by a single Borg Cube commanded by the Assimilated and enslaved mind of their own Captain Jean-Luc Picard. Also see Star Trek First Conract which is worthy Space Horror as Borg Drones infiltrate and slowly assimilate the Enterprise-E and Crew.
I remember my Grandpa telling me about this one when I was a kid, absolutely tragic.

It would've been interesting if the UNSC had designed their ships to be a bit larger from the beginning, I could actually see there being a lot of surviving Marines/Sailors, if say for example the light and heavy cruiser were like 2-4 kilometers as a standard especially if there gonna operate as capital ships.

The Autumn wasn't exactly in one piece and there were humans trying to repair it before the flood moved in to repair it. Personally I never gave it much though other than "Wow I'm glad this ship broke up just right to give me a path out of here."

I've never played Halo but I've been reading science fiction for almost 50 years. I've seen all the major movies, series and fan shows. I'd love to see more like this.
You should read the Halo novels. Honestly really good sci Fi books surprisingly

@@cottagebob2551 Same as you I also haven't played Halo (before the free to play Infinitr) but found the sci-fi, especially ships very interesting. I highly recommend the CZcams chanel EkhartsLadder for more sci-fi lore type stuff especially spacecraft/battle analysis
If you have the means, definitely check out the original trilogy (and Halo Reach) as well. Well worth the time if you're a fan of sci-fi. Halo really has become something of a modern classic in the genre.

I closed my eyes and felt a moment of sorrow on reading the title. Halo is near and dear to my childhood
Might be worth looking into the disappearance of the JMC mining vessel Red Dwarf. Losing a ship that big without a trace is quite a mystery, especially with such an advanced AI that should have been able to bring the ship home if anything happened to the crew!
If only they had had a cat on board. That surely would have brought them good luck.
The only way it could have just vanished like that was if, say, the entire crew was killed in a freak accident. But the only way they could all die at once would be a drive plate failure. But maintaining a drive plate is such an easy task that only a complete incompetent with more teeth than brain cells were assigned to it.
But who would be stupid enough to do that? To just let some utter smeghead work on a drive plate unsupervised?
I have to agree - the Red Dwarf just disappeared without a trace, perfect content for this channel

Between you and Garandthumb I’m getting used to Halo themed April Fools episodes.
I'm a diehard Halo fan and while browsing your channel, I came across this and immediately clicked on it. "Spartans never die, they're just missing in action..."
I need a weapon.
The closest thing you can get right now to a weapon out of Halo is probably the DesertTech MDR bullpup. Gotta warn you though, it's a heavily overgassed rifle because of its forward case eject mechanism, and the .308 version is pretty rough on shooters, compared to other .308s that weigh the same, or less, even.
The mention of the "clinically dead Spartan" took me to wiki. I didn't know Linda was on the Autumn.
She's player 2 in co-op play, iirc

@@Specoups I think her pod was ejected from the Pillar of Autumn and found later by Chief after the events of Halo 1. I think she's still currently alive in the canon.
Fun video. Maybe next year, for April Fools Day, do the destruction of the USS Enterprise NCC-1701 from Search for Spock.

Do the Lucrehulk droid control ship that got destroyed in Star Wars episode 1, (wookipedia is telling me it was called the “vutuun palaa”) who would win in a fight? A 3,170 meter donut of death with hundreds of droid Starfighters or one chosen boi who thinks spinning is a cool trick

Oh, a good video could also probably be made for the very particular and unlikely circumstances that led to the loss of the Super Star Destroyer Executor at the Battle of Endor. That combination of loss of shielding and a direct strike on the main bridge tower by a damaged A-Wing fighter was one in a million, and the damage done to the Empire by that strike and the battle itself far exceeded the already catastrophic loss of life caused by the impact and its aftermath.
I still remember being stationed on this ship, more than once we saw combat - sometimes the numbers and ferocity of the enemy are so greatly overwhelming that they had managed to board The Autumn despite all hands manning battlestations.
They used our escape pods, clever bastards they attached a boarding craft after each pod launched.
I served aboard the Pillar of Autumn for seven months in the year 2511. No one could explain why, but the entire ship smelled like canned cat food. Thus, she acquired the nickname "Friskies."
My friends on the Autumn called it the Shaft of Autumn.
Dude this was absolutely wonderful, you really brought it to life here man. I seriously think you should make a fictional vessels sub series on your channel or a secondary channel, maybe once a month or something, I'd love to see you bring more of these fictional ships to life in this way

The cool thing about this is that this sort of video about shipping disasters could actually exist in the Halo universe on whatever passes as CZcams that far into the future.
Following on this and Ghost Month, I'd love to see a series on the ship losses in The Expanse...just Canterbury and Donnager would be superb.

IDK why folk reserve these types of videos for 1st April. Having someone who has managed to pay attention all the way thru an episode of a franchise explain it to you really adds to the appeal. Like when I watched the Alien video you made yesterday, I was like, oh right is that what's going on, and someone else did one about Jurassic Park for their 1st April vid too. As someone who couldn't care less about the story of a video game, this video was just so entertaining thanks, maybe I'll dig in to the lore of games more, rather than just shooting shit.
I love the channel and was brought in by the normal episodes but this "one off" was a total delight. I would love to see more occasional fictional ship episodes. Be they sci-fi or otherwise. Might I suggest the HMS surprise? From Master and commander? Just a thought keep up the great work!
This was a suprise considering it's space rather than ocean but hey, it would count as a maritime way. Also the CCS is classified as a Battlecruiser according to Halo Lore. The Covenant Assault carrier is the CAS Class

Hearing the lore of quite possibly my favorite series ever discussed in this format is special in a way i have trouble pinning down. It is so cool to hear it discussed not as though an explanation of a sci-fi series, but as a documentary-esque exploration of historical fact.
I like how UNSC ships are basically just large rail guns floating around in space.

Minor correction: Almost all human space ships during the Human Covenant war had the capability to house a Smart AI. What made Cortona experimental was that she was created from a cloned brain of Katherine Halsey. Normal Smart AIs were made from the brains of the deceased, as the process damages the tissue too much to be done to a live human. The data core modifications mentioned in The Fall of Reach specifically refer to the Mjolnir power armor, as this was the first time a smart ai was able to be used in such a small package.
Other than that, great video! I really enjoyed it as well as the rest of this series!
