  • By popular demand here is my Triple play setting explained.
    I discuss hardware mode and why I prefer it and how it can work with any DAW. I also talk about the Triple Play from the point of view of live performance.
    Be patient when your setting up your Triple Play (refered to by all as 'TP') and remember to think like a keyboard player.
    Here's the tune I mention in the video that features the Synthmaster.

    Hi! Great Vid Thanks! I have an issue at the moment I notice when I record midi I'm getting all these small notes... Is that the reason you use the fret wrap? Also, You place it on Fret 1 or do you move it around?

    • @nickjitsu
      @nickjitsu  Před 3 měsíci

      Helloooo. Aye that's why I use the fret wrap. You will always get the odd extra note. It's the nature of the beast. Hopefully they should be blue or have a really low velocity (therefore inaudable). They can easily be removed in bulk. I think it's command,shift,C while clicking the note. It will choose all the notes of that velocity and you can delete them.
      I move the fret wrap around depending on what I'm playing. It stays around the first fret tso I can play open strings, but they are dampened just enough to make them not ring out unless they are plucked. Check out my 'hairbands' video for how I use this.
      Cheers

      @@nickjitsu That's really helpful thanks. Seems we have the same issue alright. These notes are very low velocity. It seems I can't hear them when the other notes with high velocity are played but if you isolate them you can hear them. Thanks again

    Could you show some ways to load extra library VST voices into the TriplePlay app - on iPad please?
    And/or - what other apps do you use? And have you tried running hardware Sound Modules for extra sounds?? How To???
    Also on PC i cant seem to load ANY FTP app voices - there nothing in there???

    • @nickjitsu
      @nickjitsu  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Hi Ivon. I don’t use an iPad, but I imagine the procedure is the same as a MacBook. You need to scan for plugins in the TP app for it to see them on your system.
      Like I say I’m the video, I use the TP in hardware mode and MainStage for sounds.
      As for PC? No idea. I’ve used macs for 20 years, so have forgotten how to even spell PC! I imagine it’s the same thing, scan for plug-ins.
      I’ll do a video on my sounds and where to get extra (some are free) sounds.
      Cheers

    Hi, thanks for your great video. I put in place all the suggestions you explained in the video but, that's werid, I stil got random notes.
    Let me explain it.
    Playing singles notes everything is fine and all the notes are properly recognizez but, when I try to play arpeggios or chords, random notes are added to the ones I'm actually playing.
    It looks like something is not going well when multiple notes are played at the same time.
    What could be the issue?
    Thanks in advance

      @nickjitsu  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi Mate. Do you mean the random notes sounding or just appearing in your DAW.
      If you hear the random notes it could be a number of things. I'm sure you've heard that your technique has to be really clean. Supper clean!
      I also use fretwraps to cut down the string noise and the sound of taking your fingers off (which is the next main culprit of extra notes).
      Also it can depend on the sound itself. Piano is really hard to keep clean. Rhodes piano is really guitar friendly.
      I've got a video in the pipeline on this very subject. Just need time to film it.
      You'll always get the odd 'extra note', but my other trick is to blend guitar in withthe synth to cover any additions.
      Always pair your dongle with the pickup and switch off wifi and bluetooth on the computer. I also switch off my phone (which you should do live or in the studio anyway).
      It's very difficult to find a solution without hearing the problem, but I hope this helps a wee bit!
      Cheers

      @@nickjitsu thanks. I finally found what the culprit was.
      Let me explain my connection chain.
      I got both a MacBook Air and an iPhone (with the lightning connector).
      Since when I found out the existence of the FTP (the wireless one) I always loved having one of that great pickup.
      Last I hear I found an old Fender Stratocaster having the FTP equipped with it (it was made by Fender only for one year and now you can only buy it as a second-hand).
      Unfortunately that Stratocaster missed the USB dongle because it was lost by the vendor, so I realized it was completely useless to buy a guitar having the great hexaphonic pickup if I couldn’t use it 😉.
      Therefore I tried to buy the FTP separately but it’s not so easy in Italy so, for several months, I just dreamed the guitar of my dreams.
      Fortunately for me, a couple of weeks ago I found out the existence of the FTP Connect and I finally buy it.
      You can realize my happiness when I put in the guitar for the very first time.
      I saw a billion videos on CZcams showing how to put it in the guitar and, I look forward to using it.
      Here it comes a little break in my story.
      I couldn’t use it with my MacBook Air because I only have the iPhone when I got the FTP connect so, because I got a Scarlett 2i2, I connect it as follow:
      - the FTP connect is connected to a powered USB hub
      - the Scarlett 2i2 is connected to the same powered hub
      - the hub is connected to a camera connection adaptor (the USB3 to lightning one)
      - the camera connection adapter is plugged to the lightning port of the iPhone
      - my headset have been connected to the headphone output of the Scarlett
      This was fine to hear it as best as possible
      But, as I described before, I only got a lot of random notes.
      When I played only single notes on a single string everything was fine but, when as soon as I played at least two strings together, a random of extra notes where added (and the were the more disparate sound, completely unrelated to the notes I played.
      I tried everything and I wrote the initial comment on CZcams to you to get a hint/suggestion/anything.
      So, reading your reply I tried something different.
      So, because I don’t have the wireless FTP but the wired one I thought the wireless connection couldn’t be an issue so, instead, I removed the Scarlett 2i2 from the chain I described before and all the notes now are played perfectly within having any extra annoying notes.
      So, at the end of this story, thanks for all your videos and the inspiration you gave me and, on top of it, thanks for replying my question and giving me extra hints.
      As soon as I will get my MacBook Air back, I will test on it and I think I will be able to use the Scarlett 2i2 to connect either the headphones or the speaker monitors.
      Grazie di tutto

    Hey) I use triple play and main stage, but sometimes midi pickup loses signal with computer and my presets switch themselves. Do you know what is it?

    • @nickjitsu
      @nickjitsu  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Hello. I think I mention the trick in the video. You need the dongle as close to the pickup as possible. Also turn off wifi and bluetooth on your computer and put your phone (if it's near) in airplane mode. That will solve the cutting out.
      The sounds changing is down to either the pedal you use to control the TP or it could be a usb lead going bad!

    What is Mainstage?

    • @nickjitsu
      @nickjitsu  Před 8 měsíci

      It's a synth host app a bit like a DAW, but geared towards live performance. It is Mac only I'm afraid.
      Alternatives are Gig Performer, Cantable, Camelot and of course you can use Ableton. Like I say in the video there's nothing wrong with the Triple Play software, but there's things it won't do that Mainstage does. Cheers!

      I don't have one yet. I may set one up in future, but I'm very busy and not very tech savvy (believe it or not). You can support me by buying my album on Bandcamp. I'll have more music on there soon.
      Thank you again!!
