There are a lot of guys that have adopted this approach, creating their own individual and unique sounds (as well as some excellent music). Check out Scott Jones, Tom Quayle, Robert Richesse, Deryl Gable to get a feel for how to develop this Holdsworthian approach.

You sum up so much essence here.
I can't believe when I first saw allan with nucleus in 1979 you weren't even born.
Or were you ? Lol
He was beyond good, brilliant fantastic. Words are inadequate.
Suffice to say, of the 6bn humans on the planet he was the only one playing in such a way. Head & shoulders over other mere mortals. In the space of time an ordinary guitarist might think of a note or two to play he'd have played a couple of amazing clusters of notes that fitted what was going on.
I think he's one of the best improvisors & virtuosos in known human history as well as an amazing & innovative composer.
