Using RC Jet Engine to Clear Some Snow

- I had a crazy idea and thought maybe I can use my RC jet engine to clear the snow from in front of my garage that my neighbours have piled up shovelling, it was over 4 ft tall and about 4 ft thick.
Needless to say you can watch the video and tell me what you think but for me there's better snow removal methods out there that's for sure.
Are you used about 3 gallons of fuel for my run, definitely not a cost-effective way to remove Snow either..lol.
This engine is making about 70 lb of thrust and I ran jet a fuel.
I did have an idea where I can mount this jet engine to my machine and drive around clearing snow, however I don't want to do that yet simply because I need this engine to stay in good condition for my upcoming episodes.

I was wondering if you could use an aerosol can as a cheap substitute to nitrous oxide. Not exactly sure what kind, just something that wont make the engine get gummed up easily (mosquito repellent maybe?) Love your vids btw.
awesome question
not really better off using LPG

I can only imagine what the neighbors are thinking as they hear and then see a jet engine attempting to blow snow towards their garage door. lol.
You guys should collaborate on a jet powered farmabago
@@MrPhatties this is a good idea
They probably piled the snow up in front of his garage because they're sick of the jet engine noise hahaha
I was about to mount the jet engine to my little mini front loader and drive it down the street while blowing snow. But I didn't do that because I need to use this engine for some upcoming episodes and the risk of damage from FOD was very high ...lol
Flame thrower would be better

The insulating properties of snow are phenomenal. It’s one of nature’s perfect ablative materials. You’d have decent cutting ability if it was your jet engine vs. ice, but snow… snow’s a beast at resisting melting.
*Next: Using jet engine as a hair dryer*
they use jet engines to dry race tracks
Then he will become Johnny s*ns
You have to have gorilla glue spray tho.
as hair remover
Ouch!
As soon as he lifted the garage door I thought “well that’s gonna be a lot of water” and yup.
Fortunately he's got a powerful hair dryer
That was my thought also lol.
Wouldn't have been much water if it was a natural drift. He had an artificial drift made of compacted snow.

After the Blizzards of 2015 buried everything in Boston, MA, the subway trains grounded to a halt from tracks and third rail getting covered in snow. They rolled out a huge jet engine on tracks to try melting or blasting the snow away. It didn't work. The poor commuters in Quincy and Braintree had to use the shuttle busses for almost a month. Nice thoughtful video.
I remember the 2015 V-Day Blizzard all too well, found out that Fire Hydrants don't actually spray water when you hit them (the bolt on top actually goes all the way down to a valve in the underground pipe) and got to go to (mandatory) court in a fancy rental with several feet of snow on the ground and no where to park at the police station and pay a $200 fine (which I could only pay with a check despite them accepting cards for other things). If they hadn't made it mandatory court they could've only charged me $150 instead of $100 for the ticket and another $100 for court fees. I was (and am) in Ohio btw.
Wow, the amount of thrust that comes out of that little thing is amazing! 😳
My wife says the same to me…..😉😉

"No officer, I was just using my snow blower. Not sure what loud jet engine noise the neighbors heard..."
There are airport runway snow blowers using old MiG jet engines in Russia.
In my country the old Mig 15 engine was installed on special train and it was used to melt a snow on our local railway.
Cool facts

EASILY the best video..not on CZcams...but in the history of mankind.
I was not expecting that much power. That was impressive
The neighbors are like, I moved away from the airport to get away from the sound of jet engines and this guy builds a jet engine in his garage. 🤣 Cool video!
When you read this, have a great day and keep up the great content!
Thats one hell of away to clear out snow. Loving it
Nice work 👍🏻👍🏻 You can make pulse jet engine episodes 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Next video before all the snow melts, jet engine snowball thrower. make a snow ball slide that puts them in the path of the jet engine. I'd do it but I don't have a jet engine just laying around. LOL
Hell yeah !!! I totally need to do this
You probably didn't underestimate the power of the engine but the energy that is needed to melt snow. I always have a hard time wrspping my head around this. But the latent energy that is needed to melt 0°C ice to 0°C fluid is about as much as heating up water from 0°C(32°F) to 80°C(176°F). Of course just blowing it away should take a lot less but probably still needs more force :)
Thanks for your entertaining endeavors :)
It surprised me how difficult it was to melt snow and ice with my 500,000 BTU weed burner torch. Melting it was easy initially - but after it was covered by a small amount of water mere seconds later, it's like I was wasting propane. I have to remove the layer of water in order to continue melting. I had a hard time figuring that out. It does indeed take an unbelievable amount of energy to melt ice/snow, and/or boil water. The most effective and effecient way to do any of the above would be to melt it from below, with proper drainage of the water.
Its crazy how much different things actually are compared to what you expect them to be.
This was everything I hoped it would be and more. Thanks!
Wow, what incredible fun! We are ALL impressed.
I've done this myself with my mother's hair blower, when I was about 6 years old. It was much nicer at the time.
I literally stopped what I was doing to watch this
Might clear off your car in a heatbeat though. Lol
Fun factor 100 plus you've just invented the most neighbor-annoying snowblower EVER! I'M IN! LOL

americans: remove snow using a jet engine is an interesting concept
russians; so we use the MIG15 or the MIG17 engine this time?
@Rodrigo Nogueira Mota
we use Mig17 engines to heat the house, and for snow removal we use the RD180 rocket engine, you know we live in Russia 🚬🗿
I'll stick with my gas powered 2-stage snowblower. But using a jet engine as the engine for my snowblower would surely turn some heads. Great video as always.
This is the craziest thing I saw and I love it!
Thank you
I don’t know why but this video is f’in awesome! Love your content
neighbor : he's doing it again, god help us 🤦🏼♂️
Cool video! The little turbine that could. A J-79 would definitely take care of the snow with its incredible afterburner. The Navy and Airforce have some of the coolest things. Too expensive for me though.
Dude that was awesome!!!
Holy crap that little thing RIPS!! Makes a hell of a mess. I've taken a weed burner to snow in the past with not much luck. Turns out snow is an INCREDIBLE insulator! If you're a homesteader, pack your foundation/home with snow! On the flip side, it's incredible how fast fog 'eats' snow.
Test it during a snow storm, we want to see how resilient it is.
I concur
Just an idea but, if this thing doesn’t already have an afterburner maybe try and build one yourself? That would be mad!
Was thinking just that. Or a pulsejet...(evil cackling)
Funny you say that. My final year project for undergraduate aerospace engineering degree was to take a similar small jet (AMT Olympus) and design and build an afterburner with a 3D TVC nozzle for it. We got about 40% more thrust with the afterburner.
that turbo jet engine is very powerful ,, nice to see this video .....
I’m in love with this little jet engine
I didn’t want to buy a snow blower because I thought it is lame... Real man can do it manually.
But this...
Real men have jobs and children and will do whatever it takes to get an extra 15 minutes of sleep
Negatory there ghost rider. Real men have a built up procharged 454 big block with a 2 foot tall hightop blower sitting on top, a 200 wet shot straight down its throat, zoomies shooting flames out all 8 and ran on pure methanol attached to an auger blowin a 200 foot high rooster tail of snow, gravel, grass and whatever else it picks up while he's running it at 7 grand walking it down whats now going to be the new sidewalk..
@@Z-Ack That’s for girls. I don’t see how you use your muscles there...
Reminds me of using my leaf blower too help clear my sidewalk the other day except way hotter.
Decent man!
A number of us have been sharing this to a bunch of private RC pages.
People from the Midwest seem to really like it!🤪
I appreciate your attempt
Maybe you should've tried what Metra does, and attach a flattened, segmented exhaust, like a leaf blower. So would've headed out in the cold to see this in person though.
This jet engine would of been nice to stay warm when we lost power and had 7° inside my home
That’s one of the problems of wind turbines
You want to die? Run that in your home and u wouldn't have to worry about the cold cause you'll be a corpse.
