I work at Guitar Center and we sometimes carry Cort guitars and they get scoffed at, I look around and think "Do you not realize Cort built half this wall around you?"
It's just they're more experienced guitar maker than what on those wall 😂
Can't deny that. They got huge chunks of contracts from other big guitar brands from fender, prs, ibanez, and esp. I wish they treat their workers with better treatments when it comes with labor codes.
My favorite guitar is a 7 strings Ibanez RG made in Indonesia, but whenever I find an american or japanese guitar for a good price, I take them. I see them as an investments as they are not manufactured anymore and most manufactured products tend to lose quality as the years go by.
You might say "guitars are not the best investment" and I'll surely understand, but I get to have fun with them in the meantime.
@@parengthonycastillo4272 not saying Cort is right, because they did some really nasty stuff, but the american builders are not treating their workers that well, as in paying decent wages for manufacturing high price products.
I have a Cort bass that I've had for half my life, it's been dropped, beer spilled on it, left in hot/cold cars and bandrooms. Things a war horse of a bass. ❤
Gibson has equipped NeverTune bridges in their guitars for years
COMMENT OF THE WEEK!!!🤘🤘🤘
😄😁🤣
Still wetting myself laughing - killer comment
😂😂😂
Whack the strings with a hammer!
No joke, that's how they start the string slots on the ABR and Nashville bridges. The slots of on my Flying V (which I picked up cheap and broken as a project guitar) were horrendous and I ended up cutting new ones in the right place.
It’s not just guitars, it’s literally every industry.

Cort has been making great guitars for a while now for a number of other companies.
cort has been making great guitars for other companies.
It's World Music in Korea. Pretty much anything that comes out of that factory is quality. It's where they make Schecters, Agile, and a bunch of other Korean made guitars. If it's korean and the serial number starts with W, it's a World Music guitar.
I got a cort gene simmons axe bass, great axe! (Pun totally intended)
Cort/World Music has been making good instruments for at least 30 years while American consumers and manufacturers sniffed Gibson’s and Fender’s farts. It’s so tedious.
Pretty sure they made my Brawley Threat, love that thing.
America doesn’t need anyones help destroying itself unfortunately.
If I remember correctly, Ola Englund bought one from a guy that was in a fire and it was still in tune.
Ola replaced a Solar that was in a fire. Springs were missing so no.
@@robzilla69G string was on. Still in tune, go check the video.

Bought a Cort CR-300 last week with EMG's, the playability, the sound, the construction and the look is amazing
As a guy with 100 and some odd guitars floating around the house, I can tell you the only thing I have that's American made is a 1960 Gibson that was my grandfather's and I had Grover Jackson custom build two guitars for me several years ago. I have never had any issues with Cort guitars. Then again, I also grew up a fan of the Japanese guitars from the 70s and 80s like Burny, Greco, Tokai, Aria. I have tried some American guitars and have had my best luck probably with Fender as far as bang for the buck. Gibson and Paul Reed Smith domestics are just beyond what I am comfortable paying. I will just continue being happy with my Chinese, Korean, and Indonesian guitars.
Aria Pro 11 is an amazing guitar.
Indonesia has really stepped up their game imo. Thr squier I have from Indonesia is great.
I bought a vantage bass in '82 and the thing still rocks .
I like the fact that he walked outside to the end of his driveway, walked back and guitar was still in tune. With Glen being next to the great lakes, I can only imagine that the humidity is higher than in an air-conditioned home studio. Humidity always wreaked havoc on tuning stability on my guitars in outdoor shows.
its the winter bro, humidity gone in Canada
@@alexmaxwellvidhe lives across the bridge in Ontario if I recall. I am in metro Detroit, It’s both dry and humid on the same day right now. Like. It will get to 40 degrees, and be humid like a spring day, and then it will drop to at or near freezing at night, and it drys up. If I understand where Glenn is, most of Michigan and a few other States are farther north than him, and I.
It's more the change in humidity than static high humidity. If you go from a high humidity environment to a dry venue for example, it is also horrible for the tuning and neck adjustment.
Humidity is really pow here in Broward County.
it's not just humidity outside alone, It's the change in temperature and change in humidity from what is relative to inside the studio. I'm still impressed with the evertune no matter how it explains out. If it's winter in Canada, I'm sure it's not 70 degrees fahrenheit with a relative humidity of 10% once the guitar is outside it acclimates to conditions and those conditions alter tuning in my experience. With tremelos the extremes are even more pronounced than a fixed bridge.
The chad tuning stability is really selling me
That’s just the evertune bridge, tho. It is quite the spectacle to see. Even crazier to see how they actually work! lol
U made that comment just so u could say "chad" admit it
My Hagstrom Super Swede Three Kings was manufactured at the Cort factory in Indonesia. Amazing guitar, stays in tune like no other.
Ive been playing Corts since the 80s. Cort is one of the greatest manufacturers ever. My PRS is a Cort my Laguna is a Cort and my Squire is a cort. They are all fantastic instruments! Im a big fan and i can't wait to get my hands on an actual Cort Cort. Its been years since ive had one.
Another outstanding instrument from an outstanding company with decades of reputation behind them. There's a reason when US manufacturers go overseas, they usually go Cort. And those Evertune bridges are definitely impressive!
Suzanne Vega used a beautiful sunburst Cort acoustic back in '86.
This is all I know about Cort.
Thanks for the clean demo, Glenn. I'm happy now.
lol
Oh man! Im so happy to see my guitar here! Been fan of your videos for years now… and now see my guitar here (just 6strings one)… awesome!
When i bought it had some doubts about it, but after some time im just very happy with it! Its reliable, comfortable, and sounds great! Awesome seymour duncan pickups and everything…its great!
Happy to see it here! 🎸❤️💙💛
Cort guitars are great. They build entry level guitars for ALL big names, including PRS. They are arguably one of the largest, QUALITY, manufacturers in the world. Fact!
Glenns guitar crusade is a noble endeavor. I salute you sir 🫡
got a cort humbucker strat for christmas one year still great to this day. more recently i got matt bellamy's signature MBC-1 cort, best guitar i've owned. and reasonably priced. cort really are a great company
I recently bought a B stock Cort G300 Pro for £400 almost half the new price and literally just a small mark on the binding. Amazing guitar - Seymour Duncan's, Roasted maple neck, SS frets, compound radius, locking tuners. Even at full price its a steal
The B Stock sounds like it had less issues than Glenn had with some of the A Stock from other companies. That's not a good sign from the other companies
I've been thinking of buying a Cort bass. I live in Korea and they are one of the few brands without inflation.
I think cort is originated in korea, maybe that's why
I’ve got a Cort 5 String Ultra Ash with Fishman Fluence pups. Awesome bass!
I've got a Cort GB Modern which is a really great modern take on a classic jazz, I would replace it if anything happened to it.
Just don't get their 5-strings. They suck, I love Cort but their 5-strings suck. B-string is absolute trash. But 4-string is fine. Go to a tech to set it up.
@@bassyey if you're talking about intonation issues, I can just get a thicker string.
My first 6 string bass was a cort I bought at Mars music in Tampa. That thing was amazing. Best bang for the buck bass I ever bought.
Glad you're including the clean tone now. Lots of metal tunes have clean sections. This has a nice sound.... it doesn't sound cheap.
Thanks for demonstrating the ever tune. Never heard of one before but want one now.
Had a Cort in 2005, was a tank. Gave it to my buddies little bro.
My first ever bass guitar i owned was a 1984 $80 Black and white Cort precision copy. It got to the point at the higher frets the strings were an inch off the fret board. Replaced with a Aria Pro ii ZB and it was amazing, still have that Aria. Cort came a long way, they greatly improved by the 90's, and are really good.
This is a sign to bring back shop class to the public educational system. building pedals and guitars are highschool level projects.
You aren't building thus guitar for cheaper than 1k if you count your labor, even at just 20 bucks an hour.
@@joelspaulding5964 Apparently we need to bring back finance classes as well...
@@joelspaulding5964Exactly. I've been building guitars for over a decade, and not to toot my own horn, but you'd be hard pressed to find any flaws in my work. Without being able to leverage the economy of scale like big companies do when buying the wood, hardware, pickups, all materials involved really, after factoring in my labor, I would have to work for less than the minimum wage here, or be forced to sell at prices people just would not be willing to pay for something from an unknown builder. And judging by his reply to your comment, it's safe to say that the OP has never built a guitar in his life.
@@joelspaulding5964 Cigar box guitars are cheap although maybe the neck has to be fretless.

I agree, after working on quite a few guitars as a tech, I opted to buy a Cort in the form of the Duality X700 mk1, and it exceeded all my expectations with the feature set offered, no USA guitars apart from the likes of custom or luthier made comes close to it especially for the price / performance ratio.
My best friend had a Cort "Effector" in the Explorer body in the mid 80's. If you dont know what that is, look it up. It was awesome. We ran it through a Korean made "micro stereo" (bookshelf stereo) that his dad brought back from Korea when he was stationed there that had a microphone input.
I've been looking into getting this guitar. Been going back and fourth for the last week. I think I'm sold😎 Great Vid!
Lolololol Glenn the editing on this is fantastic!
❤
Wow they have a full lineup on their site. Was expecting a boutique place with only couple of options. Nice!
My 1st electric guitar 20+ years ago was a Cort X5 in red. Just a little time ago I've repaired the frets. And I must say it plays like a charm 20+ years now! I will never sell it or give it to someone! I love that guitar. I've paid 270ish euros then. Worth every penny!
Glenn!!
Your playing is getting very clean. You seem a lot more comfortable. Great shit!
I love these reviews. You are so entertaining. Im not the buggest fan of metal but i am a big fan of you.
I bought a Cort KX300 about 2 years ago and i didnt know anything about the brand, but im so happy with it, Cort makes some mindblowing instruments
It is because their factory also working on PRS, Ibanez, Strandberg guitars. That's why they have all the knowledges to build a great guitar..
I bought a low end $200 cort guitar for a friend of mine from Quinn’s Music Store in big rapids I hadn’t heard of them until then and the damn thing blew my mind with it’s set up and playability. Normally I’m an Ibanez schecter and fender person but I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on another cort
Love the natural back and the satin black top. 10/10 on looks and practicality.
One of my Closest friends dads has an old Cort strat copy. What a great guitar. It is just excellent in the hands. Such a treat to play.
Cort has made several brand guitars including Ibanez, Hohner and Kramer PRS (specifically their SE line), Squier, G&L's Tribute, Hohner and Kramer.
My very first 6-string *bass* was a Cort Curbow 6 all the way back in 2003. I loved it. A bit neck-dive heavy and the tiny body cutout they had for accessing all the upper registers of the frets might not have suited some people, but man, did it play fast and give me a lot of chunky tone on the records I recorded with it back in the day.
I've played a couple Cort 7s (not this one) in my local music shop, and they also make a fanned-fret 7 that I had to stop myself from buying right then and there because it played so well.
I'm not really in the market for another 7 right now (I have 3 already) but maaaaaaaan this one looked and sounded phenomenal, if I was gonna buy one now this one might be it!
Cort is such an underrated brand. I'm a bassist and after visiting all the guitar shops in my area trying out all the brands on display, I picked up a Cort GB74 and loved that thing over everything else available.
I recently picked up a left handed Ibanez RG that was only offered at GC, starting around 2009. The serial shows production at a "cort" facility in Indonesia.
hi, been really enjoying lots of your videos on speakers. Inspired me to get that HB 2x12 v30 cab for my first tube amp, after years of using an uninspiring practice amp.
I was wondering, whats the reason you always put mixed speakers into a cab in an X-pattern? how will putting 4 different speakers work out?
is buying a different speaker to go mixed on a 2x12 worth it?
I biught a Cort Yorktown semi almost 20 years ago. I replaced p/ups with Bare Knuckle Stormy Mondays, renewed pots and added Grovers. Recorded so many sessions with it. Cost me the equivalent of 600 bucks, I could have of course bought a Gibson 175... I'm glad I saved the money to go on a nice vacation or two out East. Great review.
always appreciate Cort and other similar brands, had a G300 pro once, sang beautifully
I've had the KX700 (6 string version of this) for about a month now. So nice to never have to tune it. Mine isn't that heavy. Wood is variable, so... I liked it on Reverb so I could go back and find it and within hours the shop messaged me with an offer. I paid about half of the price you mentioned. I'm guessing the 7 string can be found cheaper as well. Also, you can tweak the tuners (Evertune calls it zones) to where it plays just like any other guitar for bending. Or, you can set it where you bend all you want and it won't change the note. Great for rhythm tracking. Just play with it a while and you can get it however you want it to play.
I have been eyeballing a Cort guitar for quite sometime now. I have had good luck with Ibanez for a long time and have been worried about choosing something else. I’m glad you did a review on this. 👍
I’ve always loved Cort guitars. One of my first real guitars was a Cort Neck Thru Flying V Effector (Gibson 80s Knockoff). It was so heavy, but it had this beautiful mahogany wood, a hard shell case, and a flawless fret job. It’s one of only a handful of guitars that I regret selling.
I have a Cort vee, with active puck ups. Bought it at a pawn shop in late 80s, still rocks!
I have recently become a Cort fan and I am loving them. The features and quality you get for the money are hard to beat. I have an X700 Duality and G300 Pro and they both play every bit as nice as my early 2000s USA Jackson SL2H. I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality instrument at a killer price.
Been looking forward to your review; will have a chance to try this out this weekend
Cheers 😁
I use to own a beautiful Cort guitar I bought when I was in Highschool in the late 90's. I can't remember for the life of me what I did with it, but I loved that guitar. I'm guessing my parents gave it away or sold it after I left for college. I wish I still had it. It was a dream to play. I think I paid $400 for it back in maybe '96-ish? Heavy, solid, sounded great, came well setup, stayed in tune. There was nothing not to like about it. I wish I still had it. I'd trade my Les Paul (as another dual humbucker guitar) for that Cort any day....
Had a few Cort guitars over the years. Better is the only direction left in their quality.
Nice to see the tremendous improvement.
Hey Glen! I bought a custom M2M guitar from Vigilant Guitars out of Victoria BC last year for an insane price. Tyler did an outstanding job on mine and even sent me updates as it was being built. They are HIGHLY recommended!!
I had a cort 7 string back in 2007ish that played shockingly good. The first thing I noticed was the excellent fret work. No "new guitar fret feel". The best trick I learned from a luthier when I built my end-game guitar was to work the frets and fretboard as if it had been played for years. The Cort had that feel to it. Totatally stock and it played and sounded awesome, never changed anything on it. Sold me on Cort. Off to the bay to see if I can find another one!
Glen, one of my favorite lines from you is “All you have to do is play as awesome as you think you are”. (8:04) It’s very true and it’s a pretty deep saying the more you dig into it.
Thanks for doing the show Glen!!!!
I just bought a Cort G300Pro. What a guitar it is!
Btw can you get the metal tone in this video on a guitar multi effects processor?
Gentlemen of the jury, Cort is back in session
Entertaining as always. Fun stuff.
I recently won a Cort CR300 in a giveaway from DOD/Digitech, and it is a BEAST! Granted, they did upgrade some things (Kluson locking tuners and Righteous Sound pickups) but the base guitar itself is super well built. And they already do a lot of work for Ibanez, which is probably my favorite guitar brand already.
I remember when you could buy Cort guitars from the Sears catalog way back in the day. My guitar buddy ordered their flying V version in brown with gold hardware and it still ranks as one of the best guitars I have ever played.
I had a nice Taylor GS Mini, but it lacked bass and it was small for me. Beautiful guitar nevertheless.
Sold it and bought a cheaper Cort Earth, I love it and I have been using it for gigs, rehearsals and recordings.
Nothing too fancy but a great working instrument, sounds beautiful, comfortable satin neck, reliable and stays in tune perfectly.
he puts more faith in strings and straps than i would put in a person
I've had the same cort backup for 15 years. its great
Chris is awesome ! Thanks for having him in the show !
Hey Rick sick guitar! What pickups and switching does it have? Also frets? I wish you did that in the gear breakdown. Not saying that’s the reason I don’t want it but just wanted to see it being addressed in the vid
My neighbour was a rep for Cort recently, and I sold a fair few about 15 years ago in the music shop I worked in. Great instruments and they got better and better. I got to play a load of the newer ones and if I didn't make my own now (and own an array of others inc Gibbos, Rics, Fenders and G/Ls) I would have got a load of them.
Been playing cort for year's always been a underrated company they have had ups an downs over the years just like any of the other companies but since moving to Indonesia they have been killing it
I've been trying to get my hands on a purple Cort KX500 etched for years now. The Cort surge is well in effect
I have a 90s Squier Pro Tone 5 string that was made by Cort in Korea about 96, to this day it plays like a dream and the clear candy apple aged to a deep blood red, Cort can build some good stuff.
I bought a Cort gold top LP about 15 years ago and it was a great guitar and I've owned ten USA Gibson's and was a Gibson salesman. I'm not surprised.
Glenn! Would it be possible to see a “chosing the correct vocalist (or other component) for a mix”. What made me think of it is i was listening to the gene simmons god of thunder right after the paul stanley version and noticed an immediate difference. I would love to see a guide or how to for making similar improvements.
Sounds great, clearly feels great & it’s looks great. What more is needed from a guitar?
My gibson came with locking tuners, compound radius fretboard, an asymetrical neck carve, more pick up switching options than i know what to do with. And it stays in tune. 🤘
I love love LOVE Cort guitars...have not played one in forever, I should really just buy one now...WITH the evertune bridge.
I played that same guitar at Guitar Center. It was fantastic. Great build quality
Weirdly Cort's own guitars seem to have more QC issues than the brands they build for though. Or at least that was the case a few years ago. I have a Cort GB75JH bass that has a off-center bridge for example. And that was after I sent the first one back because someone (seller says it was the factory) managed to put a chip in the poly lacquer that went all the way down to the wood. Preamp is a little anemic as well sadly, but other than that a good bass.
Hey Glen! Love the show! How would you turn a cheap cab into a solid sounding cab? Not talking about speaker change... I see a lot of expensive cabs with foam batting inside. Does it really make a big difference?
I almost bought the 6 string model of this last year but went with an Ormsby Hype Shark instead. I do have a Cort G290 FAT and an A5 MCMS bass, and they are both amazing.
I've got a gorgeous walnut or walnut veneered flying V from Cort, that I bought in 1986, and gigged and toured for years with. It still kills.
And you finally got to my philosophy, Glenn. I've been playing 50 years. I only need six strings. That's challenging enough.
I'm a huge fan of Cort guitars. In the early 2000s to around 2010, Cort had their top level custom-shop luthiers build Masterpiece series instruments - up-to 50 of any particular model. For some they didn't make more than 25. As a result, they're as rare as hens teeth - however I've managed to play some and they prove that Cort has had the skills and capabilities to build top level instruments for a long time. They've always built budget guitars well, however over the last 20 - 30 years, Cort have lifted the quality of their entire line-up. They're a great guitar builder.
Cort is amazing, my first every bass and electric guitar were corts. So nice to play, stupid low action once you set them up to your strings right
I'm thinking of swapping my fixed bridges on my six string RGT6EXFX and on my two seven strings my JS22 7 and EC-407 for evertunes. I'm very lazy with string changes and I keep a set on my guitars for a while. Being able to put them on my stand and pick them up after a few days still in tune would be sweet.
Evertune bridges are legit af. I've been a fan for a long time. Ben Weinman was pushing them a long time ago because of how wild he was on stage. I stored one of my Jericho guitars with an evertune for over a year, and pulled it out of the case at a gig with confidence I could use it.
Between the Evertune bridge and the Drop pedal I never have to tune any string other than my low E for drop tunings. Best two guitar purchases I’ve ever made.
Cort is a oem manufacturer that besides their own brand, they produce guitars for other brands like Ibanez or PRS, and their own models are very good price/quality wise. That's a killer guitar, less than 1k € on Thomann, amazing guitar for the price.
The 'og' retail price for the 6 string version was $1399 but there were tons being sold, new, for $799, on Reverb (and other sites). Price now seems to have gone up but if it goes back down to $799 it's a great deal!
Great review Glenn, now how about their bass guitars for a review.
CMG Ashlee, USA brand made in USA for $800
A little off topic but the sponsor recording made me want to ask: can you make some tips on crash cymbals and how to control them?
I have 10 (yes 10) Cort guitars. 2 x G300Pro (my main gigging/recording axe) 1 x G290FAT 1 x G280 1 x CR250 1 x CR200 1 x Parkwood H2 1 x SFX-5 Acoustic 1 x Nylon Acoustic and 1 x Mini Earth Acoustic. I reckon they are the best value guitars out there. 9/10 were 100% flawless.
I didn't know Cort were still brining it. Hell yeah!
Hey GLENNNN!!!! - Old subscriber here to remind you that not everyone who watches virtually everyone of your videos is a metal player. Yes I like some metal, but I am always interested in knowing what the guitar sounds like without any effects what so ever (preferably directly into the board and EQ'ed flat) - That said, you're right about this guitar. It's GORGEOUS....Love your videos (keep 'em comin')
Hey, Glenn, could you chime in regarding compensated/sweetened tuning? ;)
The clean playing was great, BTW.
Glenn I was wondering, can you really hear a difference between alternate and down picking in playing guitar? Which technique is more effective, and when you should use one or the other? How does your technique effect the sound you produce? I’m just curious to see what you think. Maybe you could do some experiments like you did with the blind tests.
Listen to people play Metallica riffs. It is very clear when one is using all downstrokes vs alternate picking.
@@joelspaulding5964 that’s exactly what made me ask this question lol. I was listening to Metallica and thought there’s definitely got to be some science here lol
Great to finally see some cort love on here I have the cort kx257b and its been my number one ever since just need to upgrade the tuners to something a little nicer but she's a Bute
Every Cort I've ever played has been absolutely perfect. Do they make in-house pickups?
