In my opinion back in the day, the athletes had way better bodyshape. They looked more like human beings.
Well.....to be honest when I was like 10 years old, I saw pictures or Arnold at competition and still thought he was a freak....
I was a bit disturbed by the pictures
@@DivineAtheistWannabe that's true, when they're at competitions they're about 20 30 pounds above their normal weight so they still look a bit freakish
They basically looked like if a human were to go Super Saiyan. Muscles bulging, filled with power. A lean physique that just LOOKS like they can lift a planet.
Now we have people that just look like mutated freaks of nature. NO shape, just mass.
Rhodes was very aesthetic though shame we didnt see more so far
More athletic movements
I'm always going to count Arnolds physique as being exquisite, and when you compare to how modern bodybuilders look you can see why. Arnolds physique looked like Greek statue like one of Hercules, or a superhero like superman or batman.
Modern bodybuilders look like something darkseid shit out.
@Nyx Hypnos haha nice metaphor!
They definitely used to be more attractive, but modern day competitors have completely changed the sport. It may not look good, but it's undeniably amazing how far they can take the human body.
Brutal
Arnold's upper body. His legs were wack next to the competition.
becauseof the roids.
At some point, one of these guys is just going to roll in like a round ball of muscle.
Keep watching!!! LOL
Pull a biscuit Olivia
@LTNetjak That's really disgusting.
This went from Greek god physique to full on bloater mode
Hulk = ninja turtles 😂
*nuggets*
looks great
Its not so much of a hulk... some of these muscles on modern body builders look like tumours or other foreign objects in the body. They dont look like perfectly sclpted ''statues'' anymore... as it used to be.
@@vibhorejaiswal2997 stfu please if you cant deadlift 530 or have 18 inch arms you cant speak

@@kadejeraldson1993 no. It’s not.
I thought he said “unpronounceable ass name” xD
Im kinda afraid how this gonna look in next 20 years

The way its going, classic physique comps may overtake the main division in popularity. Notice how the biggest names these days are instagram guys with physiques like arnold that dont even bother stepping on stage.
You give me a concern!...
I'm not, its exciting.
I don't wanna see it on 20 years man
its actually pretty exciting
imagine someone like Ronnie Coleman at the weight of 400-420lbs
Jay placed 2nd to the greatest ever for many years. Then when finally taking the title, he did not gloat. He immediately lifted big Ronnie's hand knowing and respecting how good Ronnie made him drive and push himself to get there!
it is HGH
@@siegfriedo if you think HGH alone can get you that, you're tripping.
The amount of drugs you'd need is insane, not to mention genetics, not everyone even has the ability to get that big no matter what, and then you'd need to train your butt off for decades.
Markus ruhl was robbed throughout that whole era though. I think he had the edge on Ronnie for some of them 8 years
@@siegfriedo everyone is on hgh, you can tell by the distended stomachs

@@hidayat50 What are you on? They look great
@@taklampan650 They look okay. If you like classic physique then CBS is way better than Arnold. Hoever, CBS will not get hype like Arnold
Bodybuilding has evolved indeed but not in a good way. All you see nowadays are mass monsters and bubble guts.
That's what it was like back then lol they used steroids probably a lot more than they let on
@@conorking3579 Actually Arnold is pretty casual about the use of steroids back then. Ronnie Coleman too on the Joe Rogen Experience
Wasn't that always the point?
10y back I have exactly the same opinions about modern Mr. O but now, I quite like it how Ronnie looks at his peak, he is just a stupidly big pile of muscle and you never have seen anything like this in any other sports. Of course, Arnold has great symmetry and proportion and it's still looking phenomenal but now people want to see monsters and freaks pushing their bodies over the limits. Maybe your opinion for this sport will change.
blame the judging not the players
Frank Zane’s body is just insane...ridiculously shredded. Him and Arnold will always be my favorite
For real. When he flexes his lats it’s just truly incredible.
100% mass is impressive but Frank and Arnold were on a different level!
Dude would diet with 100 grams a carbs a day it’s why he was so shredded
Both of them are king of aesthetics in history of body building.
While we are talking about great symmetry and a natural look, Bob Paris must be included in this category.
Arnold, Lou, and Franco's era was the peak if you ask me. Everyone after started getting amorphic and ridiculous
Nah, you hating
It went downhill after 82' to me
I think Lee Haney era was the peak.
Look up Lee Haney. He looked great.
@@alfjones6377 I mean, they're putting in effort, no one can deny that, but that's about all they're achieveing. The classic physique contest is the only one that has appealing anesthetics and physiques
No amount of gear, no matter how effective, will ever create a physique more appealing then The Golden Age. Bodybuilding was about achieving the ideal physique, not just slapping as much mass onto a body as possible. It really was an art.
For me, nobody but Arnold achieved that type of big muscled beast while still being aesthetically pleasant to the eye. You don't know why but you notice when you look at him. For me Arnold is the best phisique ever with no doubt.
id say anybody before lee haney and dorian yates, thats when you start to see the bigger stomach and the massive lats

They are all gifted but arnold made bodybuilding famous
And for me Ronnie and jay battle was the best bodybuilding battle
I agree
i agree but i wonder if jay cutler 2011 when he came with mohawk woulda beaten ronnie coleman with ease
Fax
You can't hold it against someone that they weren't the first to make it big in some arena. Literally only one person can do that. And that has as much or maybe more to do with luck than ability.
Ronnie used steroids though, so i lost my respect to him.
For me, everything from Dorian Yates onwards is when bodybuilding took a nose dive in an aesthetic sense. Before him, bodybuilders looked so much more natural (even though they weren't) compared to the ones after him. They looked like sculptures/statues of the peak human form created by skilled artists. After Yates, it became a mass monster competition.
Flex Wheeler and Shawn Ray had really beautiful physiques for their era. But I agree in general with your comment.
Shawn Roden wasn't that huge terah 101.
^This is the comment I came here to make. Bring back the classic standards.
I think so too but its also good to see what humans are capable of. For the aesthetics, we still have classic physique
Dexter Jackson has a great natural looking physique

Ronnie was a monster. Even in this video his development is still ahead of our current times
The Greek God physique that Arnold achieved in body building had to be the best and most aesthetically pleasing and one I will always look up to
there are many other physiques that embody the "greek god" aesthetic more though lol, arnold had a pretty blocky waist and wasnt very balanced and proportional compared to someone like frank zane, or serge nubret if you want more mass. I think he gets overrated due to his popularity
No one will ever beat Arnold’s chest
It’s genetics, and someone will at some point
I always thought Sergio's chest was equal or in some ways superior to Arnold's but he was a lousy poser and did not display it as well. Roy Callender had an incredible chest as did many others who were not hyped in the magazines as compared to Arnold.
Haney
@@Jonathan-cz4ky its not genetics, anyone can build muscle
@@Wik3dNuTS4k im talking about Arnold’s chest lol
I still think Arnold had the best overall physique. His was more like a greek god, vs today, where they look more like the hulk. It was large, but not monstrous like today's Olympia's. Also, his overall development, ie: striations, fullness, and symmetry were unmatched.
His one bicep was non existent, his legs were tiny, and he had an ugly ass 4 pack. If you wanna look at a good physique turn to Frank Zane

@Tcb bct again that's absolute bullshit. People at Olimpia levels were always blasting absolutely everything they could to be the best in the world.
I will always call Arnold's fanboys delusional because they know absolutely nothing about sport and different divisions and just masturbate to Golden Era boys.
@@duhotatoday3277 absolutely, the reason that arnold was able to have that tight gut, despite being on everything under the sun available, was because he was so young. if you asked him to do the same thing ten years later like most of the "bubble gut" guys end up hitting the olympia stage at, you'd see something pretty similar.

By todays standards, he wasn't far off tbh. Way more limited variety of Anabolic drugs, coupled with a mentality still focused on pushing the envelope in terms of training, diet etc. Nowadays, everyone knows the best way to build muscles, everyone has a 90% identical diet to each other, so other than genetics the only way to keep pushing the limits of the human body is via utilising the most cutting edge drugs. Obviously it's not all down to drugs, I mean I'll never come close to having that level of body, even if you gave me the biggest doses of the best drugs available to man. Genetics + Training + Diet + Drugs, you need every one almost perfect to get to the level of champ.
Lol.
Simeone Panda?
I dont know if you know this but Arnold took steroids back when he was a bodybuilder, steroids weren't considered bad and it was normal to use it for bodybuilding and bodybuilders weren't afraid to admit steroid use since it was so normal. Obviously nowadays it's changed. Arnold's son is natural though.
Those bubble gut monster actually destroyed bodybuilding, their body don't even look good
I agree. I don't watch anymore. It's basically a race to see who's heart can maintain pumping the longest to get to the top of the mountain while ingesting as much chemicals as possible. These bodies can't even do the most mundane of tasks. 'Hey, Bill. There's a snake about to bite your spine!' Oh, yeah. Awesome. How about not seeing one's own dick because of the awesome mommy belly? Great. It's gross.

@@cantagiousca5220 pretty much, yeah, it can be. As you need good genetics and a drive and grit to strive to be a bodybuilder. You can't just walk into it and become a body builder within the first few years, that doesn't happen. You have to stick with it, lifting and working that body to it's fullest potential. Some don't succeed, even after 20 years and that's mostly brought on by genetics. It's more of having good genetics that's the superhero part along with that determination to stick with it for so long, even after they're unable to add anymore muscle to their body.

@@miniclip1162 Or have sex (hand doesn't count).
If you felt less flexible, it's because you didn't stretch before and after each work out. Getting muscle bound is real, but it's not just because you gain muscle. Contracting the muscles shortens them, stretching them lengthens them. Some bodybuilders can do a full split on stage.
