You are a great reviewer. However, what sets you apart of everybody else is the photos of your family. Your wife and son are both beautiful, so they both provide pragmatic examples of what a lens would look like when photographing people. Other reviewers take pics of walls, funko toys, landscapes, etc. I take pictures of my wife and kid, and I need to know what lens takes the best pictures of them. Keep up with the good work.

Does eye autofocus work really great in video? Thank you in advance!
0:25 - Arthurâs famous quote.
I love 35mm lenses. The most versatile focal length for a prime lens. Iâm hoping to find a video comparing this, the Sony, the Zeiss, and the new Sigma 35mm f/2.
Great review Arthur as always! Thanks.
Thank you very much for the review.
Because of this clip, i am buying one next month.
Much Appreciated.
Great review and wonderful family! Thanks for sharing
Thank you for the awesome review!! Having purchased cameras/lenses, I feel that I can relate to your style focusing on light weight / compact cameras and lenses.
I was considering the Samyang 35mm F2.8 prior to watching this video as at the moment, I do not have a large aperture 35mm for my a6600 body. I am now reconsidering the choice. Since my budget is limited and AF is a requirement, I'm more or less restricted to the F1.8 or F2.8 Samyang lenses. Both of which are available locally for ÂŁ359GBP (F1.8) and ÂŁ279GBP (F2.8). The CA is a bit of a shame with the F1.8 lens though...plus I have a full set of 49mm Hoya filters which would work excellent on the F2.8 lens. Tough choice to make! Excellent video though, keep up the great work.
Your pictures convinced me that I needed to get this lens. Although, I bought the Samyang branded version.
Thanks.
Photos from 5:02 are awesome. Happy family.
Thank you very much for your awesome and detailed videos! Can you probably consider a review on laowa 15mm f/4 macro? Can't wait for your next vid. Greetings from Greece!
Hi, your videos are super helpful. I would be very interrested in a comparison of Sigma 30/1.4 on a 24MP sensor vs a Samyang 45/1.8 on a FF 24MP sensor. I think that it really would make sense.
Been using this lens for a month now, sold the Samyang 35/1.4 to use this. And I'm never going back :D
Does eye autofocus work really great in video? Thank you in advance!
Which is better lens sir ? 1.8 or 1.4?
nice video as always Arthur. It would have been nice to test it out on your A7. I wonder how busy the bokeh looks like, and if the lens gives a "3D" feel/separation to the subject. CA would have been -a bit- less noticeable on FF but still quite present (right??). I bought the 24mm/2.8 for 200 instead of 300 brand new on sale. Man what a beast on the A7 !
The 28mm f2 is my fav for now. With a Gimbal... so much fun. Nailed everything I do. What a deal.
I've tried it & I find it first class
How is the focus breathing? I'd love to see a comparison of this vs the Sony FE 35mm f1.8 and Sony E 35mm f1.8
Thanks for the review! Very insightful, been following you since I had a a6000 and I now have a 6600 and 7iii just wanna say I love how I watched you and your content grow as well as your beautiful family. Thanks for inviting us to some of those precious moments on top of ur reviews. Have a happy, safe and warm holidays. Keep it up bro!
Nice lens and review. Would have been nice though to see some example photos on full frame. Also just a tidbit, Samyang and Rokinon are the same. Just a different name depending on the market you buy from. It was just a little confusing like around @7:21 when you referred to the lenses as Rokinon vs Samyang, instead of their F number when they are both labelled Samyang on your image processor.
when do you think the next sony apc is coming out... I am only looking forward to 10bit video and maybe a few more megapixels on the camera
Great video. So you did this on a APS-C ? So the samples were more like a 52mm?
My Samyang 35mm f/2.8 always impresses me with its quality, even though it does have that plasticky feel.
I wonder if you can modify the side switch on the f/1.8 using the Rokinon firmware software update tool?
Yes you can, but you need to attach lens to the lens station.
Hi Arthur, Sigma 30mm 1.4 or Samyang 35mm 1.8 please suggest which one to go for with my Sony 5100 as my first prime...Please suggest
I own the 30 mm f2.8 excellent lens itâs compact if a little plasticky I like small lenses especially on my Sony a6000 .
I have a Viltrox 23 f1.4 on APSC, would there be any noticable difference in terms of bokeh compared to this Samyang 35 f 1.8 on the full frame? Technically there should be a difference of f2.1 and f1.8 due to the crop factor, but is it really noticable? Just thinking about switching to full frame and would love to see such a comparison!
Thanks for another great video.
Question: Is the chromatic ab eration easily correctable in lightroom?
Im thinking of getting an A73 and Im leaning towards this lens!
It's easy in Lightroom. Why use this lens with a crop sensor camera though?
@@KNURKonesur why not
@@KNURKonesur A7iii is full frame
Can you please also give a review to this lensâ brother - Samyang 24 f 1.8 for Sony e-mount? Thank you,
Hi, do you think that the 35mm paired with tue 75mm f1.8 can do the same or an even better job than a 24-75mm f2.8 zoom lens? For example, can a photographer cover a baby christianing with those 2 lenses?
I have a Sony 50mm f1.8 for portraits and I'm debating whether I should pick up a Sony 35mm f1.8, I've seen samples photos and I don't see much difference. I was thinking instead of picking up a 35mm, I can just take a few steps back with my 50mm to achieve the 35mm look...... Or is there a significant difference between 35mm and 50mm?
Looking forward to your review in the upcoming tamron 17-70mm f2.8!
That could be the perfect allrounder!
@@DrWasim its what I am waiting for
Whaaaa where do yâall get your camera news from lol
@@vincentkc48 haha my feed is about my hobbies soo I pretty much get updated once I browse haha
Shame it was made for aps-c...đ
I was stoked to get the Samyang 35/2.8 after I saw how sharp it preformed in tests. I've been super disappointed with it. Pretty sharp, but huge vignette, terrible manual focus, and frankly too small for the way I hold my camera (one hand on the lens). May need to bump up to the 1.8 eventually ;)
Does this lens have also manual focus? And how does this lens perform in low light conditions?
I have both the Sony FE 35mm f1.8 and this lens. At half the price, this lens is sharper, pulling focus more naturally in video and according to Arthur, it's even sharper than the crowned Sigma 30mm f1.4 on an APS-C body (that doesn't happen a lot, Full frame glasses are usually less sharp on APS-C bodies).
Chromatic Aberration is pretty much gone when you step down even at f2.
Samyang is killing the game with this series. They constantly updating the firmware too.
No reason to go for the 1st party lenses anymore.
Is it true that the autofocus is slower with this lens than with Sony 35mm f1.8? The autofocus is my biggest concern with this lens... (i'm thinking about buying it) :)
Samyang 35mm 1.8 is shaper @1.8 than sigma 30mm 1.4 @1.8? What about chromatic aberration at 1.8 vs sigma @1.8? I'm torn between samyang and sigma for my a6600, don't know which to chose
@@PatrickWithCamera i'm in the same situation. which one did you buy?
â@@ozisovertherainbow Took sigma 30/1.4, was dissapointed with chromatic aberration and overall weird rendering, subjects are getting cut like in photoshop and pasted into background that doesn't belong to picture. Had to use mostly F/2.8 to get satisfied result, so I sold it and using sigma zoom, but also not happy with it, still searching.
@@PatrickWithCamera thanks for the answer. i was thinking of buying Sigma since Samyang has worse CA.
She is 10/10. You lucky man!
hi.. which lense are better between samyang 35mm f1.8 vs viltrox 35mm f1.8 ?
the samyang 1.4 first edition is about the same price. Which would you go with between this and that
They provided a 14mm lens! Just as you requested (more or less). Any good?
Does this do well for landscape shots ?
Thank you was considering this or the 1.8 but 1.8 is so much larger.
Hi Arthur. Have an a5100 but looking to upgrade. Looking at 6100 or 6400. Price difference between the 6400 is fairly small, but is there anything the 6400 offers over the 6100? The specs seem almost identical. Thank you.
amazing lens, great review
tks for video.
I bought the A7 and interested in this lens but I still have my A6000 with very expensive zeiss 24mm F1.8 . My plan was to sell the zeiss and with that money to buy this lens for my A7 to have more bokeh. What are your thoughts?
Good weather sealing to
I heard the ttartisan 50mm f1.2.would you try it?
would this be decent for low light / night photos?
How af perform in video ? Comparison with native lens ?
Hey Arthur I have been watching your videos and would like your recommendation on which first lense I should buy my gf for christmas for her a6000. It's her first mirrorless camera and she is getting into photography. She would most likely use it for traveling (travels a lot) and for wondering around the city after a cup off coffee or during biking. I narrowed it down to the Sony 35mm f 1.8 and the sigma 16mm you use all the time. Which would be the best for her? I can get either for around $300-$350.
Also she does record with the kit camera here and there for just recording the landscape she is in. She travels practically in urban and in nature settings.
one more thing, she did also want a wider camera lense but something easy to travel with
have you already tried it against the sony zeiss 2.8 on a full frame?
I'm looking into vide shoots primarily for Restaurent promos, and photoshoots of university events and portraits. Which do you think is better choice amongst the Sigma 30mm 1.4 and this Rokinon 35mm 1.8 on my A6000 ?
Iâm in same situation. Did you buy any of these lens?
Plss sir tell me the best budget 85mm lens for sony e mount full frame ....
@arthur , how is autofocus sound and focus hunting while talking video
Question to me would be more how it performs in video shots concerning the constant autofocus.
For constant AF in video it performs much better than the Samyang 35/1.4 on my Sony A7II.
I am wondering how would an image from Samyang 35 1.8 on full frame compare to Viltrox 23 1.4 on a cropped sensor in terms of bokeh. Should be virtually the same, though I would love if anyone could share their thoughts!
Thank you very much, a complete review (as always!). This lense has not stabilization, has it?
no stabilization that's correct
Is the 18mm samyang good as well
Do they have a 20mm version of this? I just paid $850 for the 20mm 1.8f G
Please review yongnuo 50mm f1.8 da dsm sony emount
Will you review Samyang 12mm AF F2.0?
Sir I'm looking for a budget compact and relatively sharp lens forSir I'm looking for a budget compact and relatively sharp lens(35mm eq on apsc) for street photography on my sony a6400. Please do suggest me.
Hi! Excellent review and comparison. Do you suggest this lens with APS-C camera A6100 for night photography? Pls reply as I'm currently micro 4/3 user & not satisfied with the low light performance.
Full frame is going to be better for night photography. Since you dont need autofocus, I would look at a cheap sony A7 - you can get one for $400 nowadays.
What lens do you use on M4/3 ?
@@noctilux5134 I use lumix G 20mm 1.7. Day time I use Leica 45mm f2. 8 & kit lens 12-60mm.
@@adilmohammad7263 going for the a6100 might not be the solution. Your 20mm at f1.7 is equivalent to 40@1.7 in FF. The Samyang will be even longer : 35mm on a6100 makes ~52mm!. Plus the sensor is not stabilised on the a6100 so you will need to crank up the iso to compensate shutter speed... Absolutely no gain there. You might be "on par" with the A7 (which is not stabilised either). I'de look for stabilized optics for m4/3 to complement inbody stabilisation OR getting a more recent m4/3 body OR changing sensor size -with- in body stabilisation ($$$$$). The cheaper way is to get a basic tripod lol.
@@noctilux5134 thanks a lot Lux for detailed response. Yes I agree upgrading body with 5 axis ibis of m4/3 is the right as I own Gx7 now. Better to buy APS C Sony as I'm interested in super Tele zoom. Will wait for 6600 price drop đ
@Arthur R How did you do the thumbnail shot?
What if it's a bit sharper on edges because you tried it on APS-C sensor and it doesn't even reach the real edges of this lens.
The images and video look delicious! I can't wait until you learn some off camera flash, so you can take your photography to the next level! The image at 5:09 would have been superb, with a little light on your subjects!!
6:50 I think that sigma lens is for apc sensors and there is a crop factor so that number should be around 45mm, am I right?
Yes thats correct and the rokinon 35mm 1.8 becomes 52mm in crop sensor cameras
Does it make noise when auto focusing?
I'm now hoping Samyang/Rokinon will develop their own 20 F1.8 G đ
there is 24 f1.8 from viltrox coming ..
Testing a FF lens on APSc camera Why? I need to see a test on FF
Agreed. Check out Christopher Frost's video on this lens, he does both FF and APSC, plus, he has a lovely welsh accent
I would stick with the Samyang 45mm f1.8 FE for Sony. It's such a beautiful lens.
Nice
Iâm confused. Is this a samyang lens? Or is the samyang 35mm 1.8 a different lens? When I search for it I just find the samyang lens.
For video with Sony mark 3 va bene ?
What?? AF stands for "auto focus"!! Learn something new every day!
Did you know that PC stands for personal computer? I just learned that one myself. ;)
Thatâs cool AF!
Nah, don't let him confuse you. It is "as fudge"
@@trym2121 Comedy!!
Is there a difference with the samyang and Rokinon versions? I always wondered why they make two...
No, same company with two names.
Same as some countries will have Vauxhall and most of the world will have Opel. Same brand, different name. Possibly different factory and distributors around the world, but same product.
is it quiet?
is this lens meant for ff cameras?
comparison with samyang 35mm F 1.4 please
This has better continuous AF in video. Both are very sharp and contrasty on full frame. The 35/1.4 is super big and heavy though.
Just got the 7artisans 35 f/0.95 in the mail!
Neither is my a6400.
I was waiting to hear "creamy bokeh" đđđđđ
creamy bokeh is the blight of almost all modern lenses... silky, smooth, creamy... boring As F***.
@@KNURKonesur he is much more interesting to me..
Wait for the review of the new Sigma 35mm F2
just watched a review of the Sigma 35/2. Kind of heavy 300+ grammes. Performance seems.... impressive lol. Still, makes the camera very "front heavy" relative to the Samyang-Rokinon...
Any plans of trying the a7c?
Thinking about it!
Only crop sensor testing?
My desire a 23 or 24mm f1.8 (or 1.4) AF lens for apsc.
Viltrox 23mm 1.4 exists
Yes, I know, but the quality is unfortunately quite low.
www.sony.com/electronics/camera-lenses/sel24f18z - Used it can be had for about half the new price.

Of course it can be used on apsc cameras. Why?

No, very quiet.
Next, Rokinon/Samyang 75mm f1.8 :) I'll be waiting for its review!

Hope you can compare with Sigma 30mm f1.4
I did in this video - it is just as sharp!
Can't really compare if you want to use it on a full frame camera :D
Please making video sony a7c
I would suggest you put the sigma 30mm f1.4 in your title which could be much easy to search
Itâs 35mm.
that was a nasty lense flare lmao
Was hoping this was for Sony apsc...
It does work
I wish it was 23/24mm. Then I would use it on APS-C.

It's a Full Frame lens and it's sharper than the APS-C glasses on APS-C.
No problems! You can use it on an APSC. All FE lenses works on E mount. Cheers!
