      Hey brother... I am trying to get my video podcast up and running. I have 3 mics, 3 cams and a Pyle BT Audio Mixer. Is there a setting that you recommend on the mixer? I think I may have had the gain levels up too high and it was chopping up between mics. I am not sure.

    100% in agreement with you about vignetting, focus breathing and slight crop. I love the very refreshing no -nonsense approach to straight-forward comparisons. Bad news, money-wise, for sure, but delivered with a smile. And well worth a sub! Thanks for your time and effort.

    I was about to get the Samyang, but found that a used Sony can be had for down to 500.00, and I like that it's got a shorter minimum focus distance. Also even if you're not bobbing and weaving, better autofocus is better. The breathing was distracting on the Samyang too.

    I could tell which one was Sony after the first switch. When you first switched to the Samyang it did look like a different focal length and distorted your face slightly. I was surprised at the color shift though. The Samyang is definitely warmer... I guess due to coatings? Seeing such a color shift from a lense was probably the most fascinating part of this test. Great test format though! Also a great “CZcams” format as you keep people watching to find out which is which. Definitely going to try and incorporate that tactic more in my own videos. Great video Brian! Thanks

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching! Yeah, the Samyang is warmer. But shooting in S-Log 3 pretty much negates that. Or even just custom white balance. Obviously I left the white balance settings alone so we could do a proper comparison.

    I've never heard of you until I was comparing Sony 35's. I'm not a video guy, and so your content isn't as relevant to my shooting. Regardless, this is a great format. It makes it super clear and doesn't give subjective opinion until we've already made ours. That's the way it should be and you should make more comparisons like this. Thanks.

  • @kingweddingmedia
    @kingweddingmedia Před 4 měsíci +1

    2 obvious differences gave it away for me from the first switch:
    - lack of any focus breathing on the Sony.
    - brighter image on the Sony.
    When I had the Tamron 35-150, I noticed at f2 in comparison to the Sony at f2, the Sony let in about half a stop more light than the Tamron, so maybe this is the case against other lenses too.

  • @affordabletechsolutions6917

    For me...even though I often manual focus, depending on the video, the autofocus speed and precision is so important. True, that talking head videos don't have people darting on/off screen...but they do have highly animated people and product demos, and a precise autofocus is your best friend in those scenarios...so frustrating waiting for the video to focus in when someone is pointing something out. All that aside, I am a Samyang fan and have several lenses...but that Sony focus performance was awesome.

    • @AudioforContentCreators
      @AudioforContentCreators  Před 2 lety

      And that's why I left Panasonic! I tried the S5 before moving to Sony and even though it was better than previous Panasonic autofocus systems, it wasn't even close to good enough for the price in 2022.

    • @njet212
      @njet212 Před 2 lety +1

      I also love my samyang for photo content, it got more "character" than sony lens, auto focus mostly fast and accurate. But when comes into video auto focus, i would say sony still my first choice, it's more confidence and fast. When comes into video AF, Samyang lens is slower and not as confidence as Sony lens.

  • @chryseass.5143
    @chryseass.5143 Před 2 lety +1

    That was an interesting and practical test. Samyang made your face marginally wider and warmer but the auto focus test was the real deal breaker. I must confess I am one of those Sony 35 f1,8 owners and it may just be my new favourite everyday prime lens - it is just so versatile and my, oh my, it is sharp!

    The faster auto focus on the Sony was apparent. It wouldn't matter too much for video, but for photography that can be the difference between an award winning shot or another one for the delete bin.

    I know mine will be the minor opinion, but having had both, I find the Samyang sharper, even in the corners. Plus, better contrast. The coma is better on the Samyang too. So I kept the Samyang, returned The Sony and was able to put the extra savings toward another lens. No harm, no foul. I think The Sony is a bit overpriced for what it is. I even enjoyed the old Sony 35mm f2.8 Zeiss more than The Sony 35mm 1.8, even though it's a slower lens.

  • @RAMII19780529
    @RAMII19780529 Před 2 lety +2

    I noticed the slower autofocus, the focus breathing, and the closer crop in the Samyang.
    I didn't notice the vignetting until you mentioned it.
    I thought the colors were a bit nicer on the Samyang until you graded the Sony.
    Honestly though, for an average viewer watching videos for the information or personality of the vlogger, it doesn't really make a difference.
    For example, when I'm learning how to fix something, or listening to opinions on the crypto market, I don't care what the video looks like.

    Oh, that is interesting, although no real surprise eh? My dealings with Samyang are underwhelming thus far. Sure if you need a lens on a pinch of the budget hoping to upgrade to lenses in the future then Samyangs are the entry kit. My only real observation (other than the focus hunting) was that the Samyang was redder than Sony. And congratulations for joining us at Sony world! I moved from Panasonic and Canon 2017 and the Sony world genuinely keeps getting better, although my pockets aren't getting deeper.

  • @martin9410

    Having had both, I prefer the Samyang. The Sony is way over priced for what it is. Plus, I find that the Samyang seems to have better resolution and sharpness on my 42 mp camera. I mean if Sony were 50-100 dollars more, I might go that direction, but even then just not sure.
