Think Media well i think rokenon is good one.. as the price is quite affordable and after watching these comparisons I think rokenon is good. It may delay by some milliseconds but all i found in this video it may work better for photography rather that video shoot.

Almost got the zeiss but your review nails it well, got the rokinon instead.
When I shoot video I always use Robe mic, never in body mic. The AF noise is... Not noise at all. Great review guys

GREAT review i got this for my new a7 II should get it in soon and super excited for such a nice lens for the price for full frame. without killing the bank. the art lens is nice too i hear but its about 800 bucks too so having a good solid full frame 35mm f1.4 for just 500 bucks really is not a bad deal.

I have been using the samyang 35mm f1.4 since it's release, it has some problems, if you shoot back lit which I do alot, this lens REALLY struggles to get focus at all, on one occasion i just had to change lens completely just to be able to get the shot it was that bad, which is not good if you can't rely on the lens to focus, I've also had on one or two occasions where the whole series of photos taken with samyang had completely missed focus, when i swapped to my zeiss lens it grabbed focus for every photo, it's a shame because i have had good success with the samyang 35mm like 75% of the time but it's unfortunate that sometimes it just fails so i find it's unreliable compared to the zeiss
If you did not do any pixel peeping, how do you know how sharp it really is?

When the sigma 35 e mount came out.. The reviews said that the AF is sluggish. Also looking at past reviews of the Sony zeiss 35mm on older Sony bodies.. The AF was quite bad as well. How does the AF of the Sony zeiss 35mm 1.4 pair with the A7iii.. Considering it has a better AF system compared to the bodies that came before such as the A7Rii, A7ii, etc

I really wanted to love the 35mm rokinon. It was excellent in sharpness, focus and bokeh but I returned it bc the lens was too damn big. I know the sony zeiss has the same issue so Im hoping someone releases a stellar 35mm 1.8 instead.

I’m selling my Samyang 35mm, its good for photos but every time i have used it for video it wouldn’t track me and just froze in one position.. or it followed something else while i had face tracking on.
So having something that doesn’t do everything i need is not worth having even if it is cheap.

I shot Canon for over 20 years, and Canon glass is great but when Sigma started their Art series it was just as good as Canon. So going 3rd party for me is no biggie if I’m saving money for identical IQ. This review was awesome guys, keep up the good work.

“Rokinon, bring it on!” I’m a Canon user now preparing myself for the god awful migration to Sony... I’m excited about the move but terrified about the cost in replacing glass! Sony glass is horrifically expensive, particularly in Canada. If Rokinon has nailed this AF lens, it means they may do more! And if they are doing basically the same job at half the price, I’m jumping for joy! Selling Canon gear is tough because people don’t want it. Canon has let so many users down (and I have been waiting for a few years now) that we’re leaving. Canon doesn’t understand that just having great skin tone is no longer enough to save a brand. Paying top dollar for old technology is over and Rokinon my be paving the way to migrating over to Sony sooooo much easier! And yes, it’s good for Sony as well because I will buy Sony glass eventually, but dang, this is spectacular news! a7RIII, a6500, here we come!! Sorry Canon, but you screwed your faithful followers and once we’re gone, and have bought new glass, we’re not coming back! Thanks for this video boyz, much appreciated!

Hello I jumped the Canon to Sony 2 years ago and yes Sony lenses are very expensive but last year Rokinon started making 14mm f2.8 and a 50mm f1.4 and I purchased both and my God I love it, and now I just purchased the 35mm 1.4 and I hope Rokinon make a 24mm and I will going to purchase too. I also have a Sony 85mm f1.8 went I compared this lenses to my canon equivalent you can not tell the difference. Come and jump the Canon you will not regret! Thanks
Angel Guzman, are the lenses you have purchased for an APS-C sensor for Full Frame?
I have Canon lenses and I’m going to try the new Metabones 5 adapter to get me started. From what I have seen, they will work reasonably well. This allows me to shoot while I watch for Sigma lenses as they develop them. At CP+ this March, Sigma is suppose to announce three new lenses.
GraphicMill the Rokinons are for full frame, but I have both, 2 Sony A7II and 1 Sony A6500 and the canon lenses the best result I had it with sigma mc-11 for full auto focus for photo and video! The metabones there good for photos but no good for video. On video it tent to hunt a lot.
But I used with metabones 4 and don't know how good with the new one.

the noise during video is deal-breaker. The point of a 35mm is for video and lots of times we don't have a boom mic
Odd thing to say considering 35mm lenses have existed since the film SLR days.
Though I see your point and I agree, that noise during video is annoying. It's *FAR* less noticeable when there's enough noise actually around you, though. Won't help in quiet situations, but for general video usage, it'll do fine.

As an owner of the 50mm 1.4 Rokinon I will say that the af sound is not as bad as some will comment, and if you are doing high quality video, the mic should be off camera anyway. IMO the Rokinon are 97% of the Zeiss at a much more affordable price.

Few years back, when I had the Nikon system, I had the D610 and some G lenses. But I could not afford an extra infamous 24 1.4 so I bought the Rokinon 24 1.4 mf. Then I knew the optical quality (not anything else, AF, build, friendliness etc as they are varying). Rokinon got something going on and is going to be my first choice of third party lens, even above Sigma Art

what if you wanted to do PoV style shoot,
what kind of gear could you get with a starter budget say under $200 (usd) in total,
but staying as cheap as possible, while getting decent quality? (also keeping minimal gear ie: cam and mic only)
* realised there isnt enough info here and pov may not be best descriptive,
what i want to do, is record tutoring sessions, and sticking a camera in peoples face, would be borderline offensive,
so having or making descreet eye/head wear, and saying hey i can record this and give you (or parents) acess
would be more appealing on both sides

AF is way too bad as compared to Sony and keeps on hunting so bad that I could not use for vlogging or anything which needs auto focusing.

Value for money samyang compared to zeiss lenses the image quality is so close and I have the zeiss 55mm and the sony rx1 with zeiss 35mm and in a blind test with no pixel peeking I defy anyone to be able to tell the difference that's how good the samyang is

For me the onion rings on the zeiss is a dealbreaker. They look really bad honestly. They're areas where the Zeiss excedes but overall I'd def go for the Rokinon/Samyang

if you dont have a computer to process your footage, you wont be doing much
posting or sharing
dont rely on using public acess pcs (ie; library) for uploading footage
however i dont believe you need to worry about a designated pc/laptop for your camera stuff
just use what you have... unless its a decade old potato, then you may need to upgrade
so get a laptop/pc first if you need one, cause youll want to have the ability to process
stuf first, then get your cam and audio gear (lighting if shooting in the same place all the time)

The bokeh on the rokinon is quite impressive but the Zeiss is something else
the first photo is more sharper
The Sigma art lens is coming next month, it's even sharper than the Zeiss.

"Horrible" compared to what? The lens you're talking about costs twice the price of the Sigma, it's out of my range. I'm just an enthusiast buying an A7iii, because Canon doesn't have an equivalent yet. I'm thinking about picking up the native E-mount Sigma 35mm, along with the Sony FE 85 f/1.8. That will probably suit my needs fine. It sucks about the Bokeh though. Got an extra 1200.00 bucks to give me?
I appreciate your feedback, and I already knew that the Canon you mentioned is like the holy grail of 35mm dslr glass, but as the cost for the lens is two thousand dollars, with a metabones adapter. Only 900.00 for he native E-mount Sigma, and you'd have to agree the Sigma is the best runner up lens, it's sharper than sony's 35mm lenses. I like that ultra sharp look of the Canon, at half the price.
