      +Sebastian Shaw I don't have one, and I have no idea on imports, but I imagine it will cost about 30,000 American, and will be extremely expensive, and I'd rather have a Hyundai Veloster- it may not be as good or amazing, but it's new and still a good car.

  • @decnet100
    @decnet100 Před 10 lety +26

    What a machine. Exactly the right mixture of "nah, that'll do!" machismo and dedicated oldschool mechanical engineering to me. As Walter Röhrl said (paraphrasing), Germans tried to build their rallye cars so perfect that they'd never break, which of course they did nevertheless - in Rallye it's inevitable. Lancia built their cars knowing fully well that they would break, built them well enough and lightweight, and made sure that everything could be fixed in a hurry. And of course, that was absolutely the winning concept.
    And don't get me wrong, that may sound like it's the simple/lazy way to do things, which it actually isn't. It takes enormous know-how and flexibility of mind to pull that off correctly - definitely more than saying "this thing looks flimsy, surely we should beef it up a bit" on every possible occasion.

    • @theant9821

      decnet100 "anyone can build a bridge that won't fall down, it takes a great engineer to build a bridge that just won't fall down" Colin Chapman

    I think what attracts everyone to Harry's videos is his honesty and true passion for the automotive industry, which hes able to convey to the viewer. Unlike many other presenters where you have the idea the the presenter is just relaying whatever the production team wants him to. This is what car video's/shows should be all about. Thanks Harry, keep it up!

    Something in my opinion that makes cars like that so special is the fact that the electronic input is minimal, unlike today's cars that may as well be transformers because so much of the manner in which they operate is dependent on electronics. This was among the last of the true great machanical 'drivers' car's.
    Now, to even get close to a driving experience intuitive as that your choice of new cars consists solely of the Toyota GT86, Subaru BRZ, and (the other one I forgot the name of)... And all 3 are exactly the same car.

    In the early 90s I wasn't yet 10 and my dad had the first generation Integrale Evoluzione, I absolutely loved it. My first memories of how it feels a fast car are on the Deltona (that's how it's friendly called here in Italy). I remember pure enjoyment on the twisty roads we have on the Alps. Another thing that made this car famous among my family is that on the high-way you could see the fuel indicator moving down as it wasn't exactly a fuel saving engine.

    My dad is lucky enough to own a Lancia Delta HF 4WD, 1 of only 9 in England! Such a lovely car, I grew up with Rallying and Group B/Group A since my dad always loved rallying too. Its a shame because the HF 4WD is in pretty bad shape at the moment, it needs a HUGE restoration project because its rotting away :(

    I'm going to make the argument that this is THE greatest car ever made. The S4 Group B version was an absolute monster of a car, and in it's highest state of tune it would do zero to sixty in just over 2 seconds ON GRAVEL. Show me ANY race car built before, then, or since, in its normal tuning condition for its own race environment, that could do that. There simply aren't any. Sure, some of the hottest (and I mean hottest) Formula One cars could so that ON PAVEMENT, but on GRAVEL?!? Even the production version of this car was incredible. Not in a mainstream sexy way, more like the dark horse. It's the best sleeper ever designed. If you blew by one of my fellow Americans in one of these, they would say "How the hell did I just get smoked by a Dodge Omni?!?" Aaaah, the dark horse that beats the thoroughbreds. This thing was on rails with a SpaceX Merlin engine attached. It just had its shit together. It definitely has the pedigree part down pat.
