***** Not exactly sure if it's a beam but I remember at the time thinking... this is some awesome graphics! lol. The music set it off perfectly too! But this game was impossibly hard! I needed the cheat plus a walkthrough guide to complete!
@@iaincowell9747 Both of you are partially right. At that time, most PC users had no soundcards at all or had cards providing basic qualities. Very few games actually played their music on PC speaker. Those that could (e.g. Pinball Phantasies or Star Control II), sounded exceptionally well, indeed. Considering it was a PC speaker... Meanwhile, Amiga had a built-in 4 channel soundcard handling 8363Hz samples. Which is ridiculously low, compared to e.g. a CD (44100Hz) or a DVD (much better) or even a current .mp3... But in those days, it used to be a miracle! You had "line out ports" so that you could enjoy the sound on a HiFi system. PCs better than a potato were quite expensive, accessories too, so plenty of people simply couldn't afford to buy an at least decent sound card, e.g. a newer generation SoundBlaster - which, for a long time, still didn't beat the Amiga sound. Things started to change in the mid-90s, with cards like Gravis UltraSound... but these cost even more, were complicated to install, a lot of games didn't recognize them or didn't recognize them correctly. So, even most of the gamers didn't bother to buy them at all... those who did (including me), out of every 10 cases got no sound in 4, quirky sound in 3, and - through emulation - the same crappy sound as with a low-gen SoundBlaster in 2. In short, this is the story behind.
The screen took FOREVER to load, there was no way to bypass it, and you had to see it EVERY SINGLE TIME you died - which was not exactly a rare occurance in SOTB2. So, beautiful as the music is, iconic and band-inspiring though the artwork may be, this will for me forever be associated with just wanting get back to the game and have another bloody go.
this used to drive me mad as a child because there was no skipping it and it took forever, but today I appreciate what an amazing piece of music and art it is
Mate, I was totally the same.. it was so .. emotional..! The grfx at the time were amazing.. the music so beautiful.. it inspired me to programme computer games
Not only would I like this played at my funeral, I would like it to be the entire service. Loved ones would show up, a priest would ask them to sit down, then he would play this on a big screen, and then he'd ask them to leave. I don't think I'll be able to make it happen. But I can dream.
You are Damn Right it does ! Imagine seeing and hearing this like 20 years ago as a Kid ! It is one of those things just imprinted in my mind along with other great Tunes from games ..
Quality. All of a sudden it's 1991 again. Without wishing to sound like an old codger (which I am), the youth of today would have a blue fit if they just had a still frame and a guitar solo for a game over screen.
This game came in a pack with Deluxe Paint and a few other games, at the time a BBC computer was cutting edge for me, Granny's Garden was as scary as a computer game could be. Then I watched the intro to this on my Amiga 500, I'm still genuinely freaked out by it. The first time I'd seen graphics and sound like that, and they make it scary as fuck...
Got this with my Amiga when I bought it. It probably had some of the best graphics / sequences any Amiga game ever had. Pitty the game was rock solid to play!! I only ever completed it using the cheat and a walkthrough guide!!
Thanks for sharing. This ending to a death for me is the best in gaming history even today. I think that guitar solo is just awesome and it still sends a chill down my spine to this day. You almost enjoyed dying just to hear this.
It is the coolest guitar solo in a game ever! I couldn't believe my ears when I first heard this in the game, thinking how is this possible on my Amiga from a floppy disk??!! Ah the wonders of early Amiga disk compression and Music Tracker software. :) Classic.
One thing I've always wondered about this game over screen, wtf is wrong with the guys skin?!? I think the beam of light is actually sucking the life out of him, pretty crazy!
one of the best game over scenes ever , after all the nightmare puzzles ,gameplay and atmosphere this screen was a nice contrast. and it was also kick arse digital sampling in your home !
For some reason, the tune before the guitar comes on sounds so heavenly and nostalgic even though I've never even heard of this game before It's probably the soundfont
The worst part about this, is that if you die ONCE anywhere in the game, you get the bad ending! Then it's back to the beginning! It doesn't even say "GAME OVER"! This might as well be enough to traumatize someone.
The only good thing about getting your ass kicked in this game was getting to hear that music. I forgot about it for many years and woke up one day with it in my head but couldnt remember where I heard it. I finally remembered and found this on youtube. Awesome.
@Jac2Mac That scene, the one with Zelek teasing the child and laughing, appears on the Amiga version as a second introductory scene. They just went and reswitched it as game over scene for the Mega-CD version.
Quality!!! Probably the best short sequence of any game in this era !!! Wouldn't it be nice if we all died in this mannor, by this, I mean at peace in a beautifull surreal land with a angellic organ sound complimented with a subtle yet slighly heavy guitar rift echoing across the land, signalling your immenant departure much as a fanfare signals someone specials arrival.....
ok this game was one of the most atmospheric games ever...especially its art direction and its music, especially the music for this game over sequence...sometimes i would die on purpose to hear it...
@georgemargaris that's because it's the art of Roger Dean who created the Yes albumc overs. He was involved in Psygnosis in shaping the visual identity of the company, and also did the covers for the games.
Holy sh!t! KKBNorSKPC is right! It really is in Miami Vice. It's a different rendition but it's definitely the same song. I think I remember Tim Wright said he worked closely with some electric guitar guy for the samples. Guess the guy was trying to imitate this song. I still prefer the Beast 2 version tho. :)
@Darkez982 Good Call !! never thought about that, but yeah blown up to massive size, Brilliant, Its a conversation piece definately for anyone that has never seen it before !!!...
I also think it sounds like a portent of the video-game music that we enjoy today: It sounds like on 40 second sample with a real guitar riff rather than a MIDI / Tracker tune.
Jesus..this game was so tough but worth loading for the intro, game music and end sequence..didn't seem to matter I couldn't get anywhere with it. Got a cheat code for invincibility ages after and played it right through to the end!!
Goddamn modern times, you cannot even shit in the woods without receiving a laser shot from the skies .
+akualung right in the chest man, it totally threw him out of balance, now he's going to sit on his own shit... Damn you sky laser
Lol
holy shit this thread lmao
@Isaac Montecillo He just died Blood. I will be telling folks to play this at my funeral.
@@reverendbluejeans1748 Does that mean that this guy gets shot by some kind of red laser by god in the sky.
Every 5 years or so I'm drawn back here
one of the best amiga images ever
The game-over tune also won several awards along with the other music of Beast II back in the times
Based on that drawing and music alone you can run your imagination wild and see yourself in that weird and forgotten universe.... Bliss...
Suddenly, all the anger form dying late-game, vanished. What a beautiful game over track with amazing art to go with. ^^
i used to secretly love dying just to hear this!
I remember busting in to tears every time it came on :(
Best game over sequence ever!
***** Not exactly sure if it's a beam but I remember at the time thinking... this is some awesome graphics! lol. The music set it off perfectly too! But this game was impossibly hard! I needed the cheat plus a walkthrough guide to complete!
Yes
@@ChewyGDRP What is that guy doing in here please?
With music stolen from Miami Vice. For those in the know.
Agreed
I remember actually dying to hear this in the game lol, the riff still gives me goosebumps!
As if you need to try to die in this game...
Wish I was 15 years old again
are u still alive
Awesome Guitar ending...
Big Respect for uploading this SonnyB73..
Brings back happy memories of my beloved Amiga ..
Fking hell games were pure art back then. From the cover arts to the soundtracks
Seeing stuff like this from early childhood makes me go light headed, I swear nostalgia could make you pass out
The picture is intense, wow. And the music, damn
This is one of the most beautiful things I've seen.
I remember the olden days when the game used to be on cartrages and take ages to load.
Tim, even today after all these years I absolutely adore so much of your old Amiga Music. It's cool to see you on CZcams!
timeless classic, still gives me shivers listening to this after all these years, whoever did this, whoever u are...Great job.
Awsome... when home compters had such sound, pc users were still on the trees eating bananas dancing on the "bleeping" speaker sound!
hahaha thanks for that. made my day. :)
Eh, no. I remember having Secret of Monkey Island on PC and being blown away by the sound.
@@iaincowell9747 Both of you are partially right. At that time, most PC users had no soundcards at all or had cards providing basic qualities. You could turn the game over sequence off in the start menu...
The memories this brings back!!!! Brilliant sequence to this day!!
this used to drive me mad as a child because there was no skipping it and it took forever, but today I appreciate what an amazing piece of music and art it is
I occasionally play this game on my Amiga just to die and hear this
Incredible for the late 80s, it freaked me out as an 8 or 9 year old at the time, still does!
lol that brought back old memories, amazing how that 42 seconds can stay with you for almost 20 years.
Bro, do you know that was 12 years ago? 😮
And now it is 30 years ago... Wow!
I watch this vid a lot. Reminds me how much I love old games and their scope.
Awesome
thanks for posting that. That riff is embedded in my head permanently, probably because I saw the game over screen a million times! Takes me back.

If anything, I consider this the funeral theme of the 80's in general.
I can beleive if found this....its been about 10 years since i witnessed this genius !!! thanks for putting this up and putting my soul to rest haha
I saw this so many times ...... but the music is still a nice compensation!
i remember my brother going "hoollly shit!" after hearing this ;D it was that amazing
When you Google & CZcams for a game over ending/music 29 years later...you know it was epic.
I miss this game good times

THATS THE WAY A BODIES SUPPOSE TO BE!!
It’s because the protagonist in the game isn’t human yet. He would be become fully human in Part 3.
i remember seeing this all the time, that game was so hardcore.

But that guitar riff tho
Its a good thing they made the game over screen so cool because you would see it a lot because this game is HARD!

awesome music, love it :D

this Game over theme Would be making me feel into isolation at times. especially when if Darkness conquers my dreams.
The game was so incredible hard so you saw this scene a lot :)
lol i came looking for this because i remembered the music on the death screen, must be 20 years ago now :(.
I hope the new beast on ps4 has cool music like the original.. Dam good days they were
nice cant wait not long now mate

This is probably the greatest game over ever.
The music. The picture. Shoot. You fucked up, but you fucked up /good./ Or something.
I'm very tempted to have this played as my coffin is taken away to be burned. Hopefully that won't be any time soon of course...
@Jac2Mac That scene, the one with Zelek teasing the child and laughing, appears on the Amiga version as a second introductory scene. They just went and reswitched it as game over scene for the Mega-CD version.

*16-bit
23 years old, and still awsome
33 years old, still awsome
35 years old and still more artistic than games today.
the music makes me tingle
I used to play this game when I was five. You can imagine I heard and saw the game over a LOT, but I never minded.
A great ending for losing .. legendary
This and the prequel were the hardest games ever. But they look and sounded fantastic.
first saw this as a 9 or 10-year old, at a new years party, all the children were shepherded upstairs out of the way and played amiga games
Brilliant !!!

This kind of sound on a fucking Amiga! Incredible.

When he is sitting down at the ground.
Isaac Montecillo you are stupid. very stupid indeed.
I love this Game Over sequence, it looks like the Gods are punishing your character for failing them as their land's last hope.
It makes me CRY!

so powerful music and graphics, that was the Amiga.
lol this was the screen you always saw - and never the ending screen!
