That solo could have went on forever and I wouldn’t have been mad
bruh that's a great idea, hold on lemme try edit the solo on loop
The singer totally ruined it for me. Not singing but just his whole stage presence. And I’ve liked this band for awhile.
there's gotta be a 10 hour version by now, right?
He's better than the band.
I was there bro. It nearly brought me to tears. It was powerful he was making magic in that moment it was thick in the air.
Their rhythmic precision and synchronization is stupid good
I'd love to see them at a festival on stage with Phish and Umphreys McGee...that'd be dope
I would highly recommend that you look up King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
Yea they've pretty much become a jam band now lol
@@i_dont_know_who_i_am69 I ain't mad about it.
Zach Jones You must not get to hear much music. This is a mess.
Studio Version: 2 Mins, 17 Seconds
Live Version: 8 Mins
Both are great.
Paddy O'Connor So, you’re saying this is an actual piece of music? As in, intentional?
Peter Yianilos Dude why are you going around every comment shitting on the band? If you hate them so much why are you here?
reminds me of the sultans of swing studio vs live. I'll be honest though, I think that the live version for Sunflower is SO much better. I wish it were on spotify.
i like both but ngl i love this version so much more. this is the version i recommend to everyone.
8 minute sunflower, Man!
This whole song is a guitar exercise
Douglas Stewart I meant it as a good thing
if you idiots thinks this you really need to get out more.....maybe watch an Alan Holdsworth show
Tahsin Sabah well every song is a guitar excercise...
Tahsin Sabah Exercise is a good word for it. Not much more.
michael88863 ???
i'm gonna be honest my first thought was "of course he's wearing sandals"
With farkin straps. Yeesh.
lol
How unbearably white.
Yeah, and the other dude has shorts on. Somehow he still manages to look pretty cool but, I still stand behind "there are no shorts in rock n' roll"
@@SinnetSongs Robert Trujillo, Angus Young, and Danny Carey may disagree with you. And yes I did use an Oxford comma there ;-)
Why did every artist decide to title their song Sunflower this year
2017 - Sunflower by Rex County Orange
2018 - Sunflower by Swae Lee, Post Malone
2019 - Sunflower by Vampire Weekend
2020 - Sunflower by ??
@@daveteves add Harry Styles to that list lol
@@deaf-tomcat ew, no.
Dave Teves we’re naming artists with a song called sunflower, no?
@@deaf-tomcat it's a cover. It's awful. Not released in 2020.
john mayer touring with the dead and vampire weekend turning into a noodly jam band. the strangest timeline, my dudes.
The strangest, but certainly not the darkest
Listen to Bon Iver's first record and tell me they'd become an arena band
Dopest timeline
John Mayer becoming the best guitar player alive from being a popstar. Definitely the strangest timeline ever haha
Or the best
Pesh Frots so true. Justin Vernon is a genius. So are all of those listed above. If you’re not growing, what’s the point?
Lead singer looks like he's about to hike up a mountain in a Columbia ad
jessica Goodstein haha
LMAO THIS IS SO ACCURATE HAHAHSH
Columbia lol his alma mater
Second time I've seen this version, second time I'm convinced they need to do a psych rock album.
That’d be awesome
Space rock, psicodelic, heavy rock all mixed 50% 30% 20% 😏
If they ever do another album😢
@@footygoodness SiriusXMU said last month that there's one in the can. I think we'll get new music from them soon 🙂
@@gamby16a hell yeah I needed some good news
honestly their bass player is so underrated
Anyone that plays a Ric is underrated! They're a different breed
Never thought I'd see the day when Vampire Weekend, of all bands, would be a jam band. And they don't suck, either!!!
Same. I avoid them based of name alone. Then heard this and ask myself if they zappa influnced. Musicianship very impressive
@@gratesagag4948 I always thought they'd be a hardcore band before I listened, but been an indie band through and through until this album which definitely has folk vibes. Just some kids who got to Columbia University on scholarships jamming out
The big afro, some clean J's, the man is a legend
Don't forget the pink thinline jaguar
Giffari Ihza jazzmaster
@@mushroomhead947 oops sorry my bad
It's neither it's a bilt zaftig custom job they're fucking rad
so true lol
Rostam was definitely a huge loss, but Brian Robert Jones really adds so much to the band that it kind of makes up for it. This guy shreds.
Where’s rostam?
@@scottycrayon He left Vampire Weekend at some point between MVOTC and FOTB
@@WiloPolis03 thought he was just doing a bit of solo stuff
@@scottycrayon He is, but unfortunately he left the band for it. He did help produce We Belong Together and Harmony Hall though, and I think the album was still as great as it could get with their situation, so I think it's all good
This may be really dumb to ask. But rostam was really part of vampire weekend??? I didnt even know that
That's about as perfect as turning a 2 1/2 minute song into an 8min live performance as you could possibly get. Masterpiece.
I literally clicked because I wanted to see the hollowbody jaguar with jazzmaster pickups and a starcaster headstock and was pleasantly surprised by an amazing guitar solo.
Bilt guitars have exploded the last few years. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
@@thenewmedic I never heard of them, but that guitar is obviously a solid build.
@@DBSG1976 how so
Nope
I’ll never get tired of this song.
same
One of my favorites off the album.
Ossarian Lol dummy
@Ossarian thats exactly what we're doing boomer
✨
8 minutes sunflower
this show rules!
rock’s played out, dawg
@@WallyBrando I am so impressed I might just start following their music if they're turning into a jam band.
i was just about to comment that haha!
I've watched this like literally 30 times in the past two months. I think this is my favorite guitar solo of the 2010s.
Don't you like Nick Jonas' masterpiece better? :)
@@zachdaguitarguy4789 what is there to like about this incoherent garbage?
@@BorislavVeselinov VW’s incoherent garbage?
The guitar player with the afro is dressed like me when I go to the grocery store on a Saturday and run into my boss and his wife.
This version just adds those extra 4 minutes, 43 seconds of even more greatness.
the song itself is more like an intro to the solo here
Welcome to the world of jam bands.
Robert Frost knew someone would have beat me to it
There’s hardly a song to this song
so true.
please make a live album out of this tour
Yes, please!
Until they do, sukadogdik.com has what you need.

Was stupidly good. 100% agree deluxe vinyl pls
They did a live EP but its exclusive to amazon prime
They did a limited vinyl release this year
They did this at the dublin gig and it was one of the best concerts I had ever been to
So sad i missed that
It was a great gig, brilliant atmosphere
@@evanwhite2112 A lovely sunny day out on Trinity Green, one of my favourite gigs
Jealous. I’ve missed them every time they’ve came through my area.
That Trinity gig was good! Couldn’t ask for a better one (although I still want to hear Finger Back live)
This is my dogs favorite band...he watched the whole concert. I was very impressed too. Especially this and 2021
IDontWannahName unless i deeply misread this... this is also my dog and my cat's favorite band. a-punk gets them going
Vampire Weekend, the choice favorite indie band of cats and dogs worldwide since 2008
Wilo Polis somebody needs to establish a research on why that is
@Marty DeMarco Well as a dog myself I kinda get it
What kind of dog?
This is my favorite version that exists. It's the song in its true form in my opinion.
I demand Ezra's skin care routine
haha lol, i was curious too
genetics
His own semen
Semitic indooorsiness
hes a vampire
Ok this guy is a phenomenal player. Great addition to the band. That guitar solo blew me away!
S T O N E F L O W E R
8 minutes?! This is like some Grateful Dead level of jamming.
Total fire on the mountain in the solo.
@@joshueabelis473 Definitely! Saw this live in Cincinnati and thought the same!
holy shit youre right what if they were influenced by their comeback as Dead & Co hence the set up with two drumsets etc
Also Phish and Umphreys McGee
Times that by 5
Random person: vampire weekend sucks
Me: shows them this
Them: I love vampire weekend
Ezra Koenig in the shoresh sandals. Gangsta
Prep School Gangster
i've alway seen these guys as the modern grateful dead. all the technical and talented songwriting with modern production and it doesn't take an entire college semester to listen to the record
Young Bill Murray going crazy on bass
Now referring Bill Murray as "old Chris Baio"
@@pattyrod55 heck yeah!
Jacob Crummett hell yea man made the song that much better
LOL underrated comment
I'M DYING!!😂😂😂
Iconic guitar solo, will be coming back to this video for a looooooooong time
This is one of those songs that just catches your ear. Discovered this song from a random playlist I was listening to and when I heard it, I knew I’d have the tune stuck in my head. This live version is fantastic!!!!!
Same. Discovered Vampire Weekend though this song on a Spotify recommendation. I thought to myself, “can’t believe I’d never heard of this 60s/70s band”. Turns out they’re my age.
8 minute cape cod when
There's an 8 minute Cape Cod with Solsbury Hill built in the middle that's pretty sweet.
4 years later… 30 min cape cod w/goose lol
king gizzard and the weekend lizard
Zombot95 king gizzard and the shitty quantity not quality lizard oh wow they release 4 albums a year and they all suck fucking lame
@@LuckySantora u good
LuckySantora they were some fire albums have you listened to crumbling castle, lord of lightning, doom city, countdown, great chain of being (ps I can go on ;) )
Super Shrimper Of course you can go on they have 20 fucking albums none of its good
LuckySantora no bud all of its good you just can’t appreciate good music and you’ve probably listened to 1 song and formed your opinion
First time listening to them, I adore when a singer or a collective make me fall in love with their music by listening a live performance instead of a recorded song. They are 100% in that playing and singing, this is so true and amazing, wonderful! And the dinamic of the song, wow, a surprise all along!
so true and rare for me it was AM.
This is just the dead for art school kids
Drew Occhipinti you’re not wrong
And I love every bit of it
I really thought he was going to start singing China Cat.
The dead are the dead for art school kids lol
Good call, kinda the dead mixed with modest mouse
The harmonisation at the beginning is freaking awesome
These folks have been listening to King Crimson and I like
Sound engineering on this song is brilliant.
Whole record sounds incredible from a production/mixing standpoint. Just sounds so expensive and deliberate
Anyone that plays a Ric is underrated! They're a different breed
The live or recorded? I found the first blast of backup vocals on the live version was a little low. But maybe for a reason. Not sure.
Wow their playing is really tight...the subtle tempo change was cool also fantastic guitar solo!
^the song you write when you discover there are more scales than the pentatonic, ionian, and aeolian
Daniel Collins It’s called Mixolydian ;)
owlcarnival indeed it is. 10 points for you 🥳
It’s called jazz
CrispyBoi03 🧐🧐🧐 me thinks not 🤨
D Mixolydian to D Dorian
oh the vibes of this... impeccable.
You're amazing, guys.
Tone. Touch. Lyricism.
Welcome to my strange addiction:
*Vampire Weekend*
Mine too. I get it.
@@tonyacolombo4496 you're in good company. Especially in this thread ;-)
For years this has been my go to song when I need inspiration. Powerful energy. Beautiful performance.
When that bass comes in during there solos is great man, it adds so much more
They make such beautiful music. My ears feel blessed on this day
I remember seeing this at the Big Weekend last year, front row and it was incredible! Best live band I’ve ever had the honour of seeing
We need a live album with this version of the song in it
love this, so much swagger on one stage
This is so much greater than I ever thought it could be
Found this song by mistake, glad I did.
Amazing, no words can describe. Can't wait for your gig in Lisbon!
Weow ! This sounds so good
Fantastic! Never done before, I loved every second
Such talent.Lovely Vampire Weekend vibe.
i can't wait to see this song live, it's so rad
When i saw them in la that solo just adds some ummmf to this song, the riiffs are so good..hell yeah
Wow, what a song and what a fantastic composition it is.
I can't stop watching this video, it's mesmerizing.
Awwwwwwwwwwsome! Vampire Weekend - pure genius!
Oh my god. They’re jamming. This is epic!
i think this is my 45th time watching this
you guys are amazing!!!
i can't stop watching this every month
I keep away from live performances, especially ones I plan on seeing. I saw this live a few days ago in Melbourne, and oh man am I glad I didn’t know what to expect, this fucking shreds 😩😩👌👌👌👌
I went to their concert in Mexico City last October 21st and this song sounded very well!
Stoneflower in SF was unreal! THANKS!
This was definitely one of my favorites to see live! So lucky I got to see them when they came to Norfolk ❤️
God, I forgot how much fun this band is!
This song gives me so much energy and hope thanks vampire weekend :)
impeccable from start to finish
Absolutely amazing!!!!!
I will have to definitely place Vampire Weekend on my list of concerts to go to
lol. update added.
you could totally mashup 'fire on the mountain - grateful dead' with this song
this is one of my favorite video and i watch it again and again!
stunning. 🥺
I really love the trippy jam band vibes ✌️🍃🌈
Gosh but this is so good. Brian keep on rocking my man
This is pure love

This sounds like springs After Bambi's mother has been shot
oh no, my personal vietnam flashbacks, here we go again...
HAHAHAHAH
Lmfaoooo
Flawless!🙏🏼♥️
I loved this
I was not ready for this.
Saw them at firefly this year. New fan, and this is one of my favorites from them. EXCELLENT guitar work.
PLEASE put this live version on apple music and spotify !!
That solo will go down in history
The pink guitar is so sexy and his playing was so tight. When he started singing with the guitar lines I was blown away, he’s fucking amazing.
I know this has probably been mentioned in the comments multiple times already, but if you dig this and you’ve never checked out the Grateful Dead, do yourself a favor and look up Scarlet Begonias or Fire On The Mountain or Franklin’s Tower or Bertha or hell, anything.
If any of the children hiding in the comments haven’t heard either of those tunes then they honestly can’t understand the complexity of jammin. They need to start there
Or this song's grandfather, China Cat Sunflower
Or Morning Dew
The allman brothers as well
💀 ⚡️ 🌹
This is another level! 💕 how come nobody in the public is rocking this song?
Amazing!!
thank you
Noodley octave surfing riffs - China - Cat = Sunflower. The sky is yellow and the sun is blue
Life is very chaotic rn but this video is a source of joy in this troubling time ❤ thank you for the music
You'll be alright I have faith in you n wish u the best life has to offer!!!
Thank you for the trip
