Hi, it's David Paul Meyer, director of the Daily Show. I just wanted to say that it was a real thrill getting to direct this performance. I remember watching Vampire Weekend in 2008 perform M79 on SNL, and how I became an instant fan. Now, I play VW's music for my kids, and they love it too. That's what's so special about great music. So yeah, this was a dream gig. I also want to say that this would not be possible without the remarkable efforts by staff and crew at The Daily Show who go above and beyond every single day to create these special moments. It's an honor to get to work with such talented people. I know the internet is not a great place for being earnest and heartfelt, but figured I'd put this out there anyways.
Thank you David! It was so exciting and amazing to be a part of this production (choir) Had an absolute blast! Vampire Weekend is 🔥
The production quality sounds amazing, would love more and more performances from quality NYC bands/whoever!
My 2 year old is a fan too! Great work on this production. This performance was an absolute masterpiece.
This was an absolutely stunning performance! I am emotional watching it!
incredible production, you guys did great work. sounds great, and seeing everyone just getting so into the performance, really just a rare treat all around
It’s been a pleasure aging through life with these guys. Every time a new album hits, I have a brand new soundtrack for another stage in my life.
I feel the same way!
Wholeheartedly agree :)
Aw nice! A little corner of the comments section that are My People 🥰
Gotta love lies.
I think that was actually Ezra’s intention! He says every four years is like a new stage: high school, college, etc.
Wow Ezra’s voice sounds so amazing here.
Best I’ve heard him live ever, I think!
Autotune
@@Ngb963 I thought it was autotune but you can tell he's off pitch slightly here and there
That's because he's just one step below autotune. But still, he's really talented.
Props to the sound team on the Daily Show. Way better sound quality than most talk shows.
The sound engineer loves VW for sure!
never thought they could surpass “Ya Hey”, “Step” or “Hannah Hunt” but here we are.
Ya Hey is way behind of this lol. This track is up there with Step and Hannah Hunt.
@@classicbambiwhat does that even mean?
@@user-qj4fz5un8l you're laughing at them for liking Ya Hey?
This may be even better than Hannah Hunt
@@user-qj4fz5un8l Ya Hey is probably their best song
One of greatest examples of a band getting better as the time goes on. One of the best of my generation. They haven't missed yet.
father of the bride is a miss
@@C7Pliersfor most bands it would be an incredible album. It just wasn’t as perfect as their other albums.
@@DeesBees76 i still disagree it was too bloated
@@C7Pliers Father of the Bride is my second favorite album of their's after Contra.
@@sHART1780 im glad you like it to each their own i didnt like it. but i gotta say the fact that vampire weekend has an album for everyone just makes them so much more special i love that about them. i might not like it but so many people do which just proves their diversity.
There is a very specific feeling to reading these comments and realizing.. all vampire weekend fans feel the same exact way about them. We’re all living our life, evolving, through the soundtrack of this band… life has a funny way of connecting us threw invisible ties.
I agree. It's almost like a secret club. I know better than to get too revved up over them with friends and family with no real understanding. But for those who recognize their magic....few words are necessary. And being in an arena surrounded by all the likeminded people for their live performances is truly unforgettable.
Appreciation here for the mixing team. A fabulous performance of a beautiful song, and the production here makes the most of it
I hear audible ducking of the choir when the drum hits! Is that how the original recording sounds?
think that's Ariel r (who produced album) mixing on the side there...that would explain why mix is exactly as it should be)
Yes!!! Love the mixing and sample pulls! It’s all beautiful
This sound guy agrees!
The live choir, the varying instrumentation and Ezra's vocals, I teared up so easily, this song is such a masterpiece
Don't cry. Save it for November.
Vampire Weekend sounds simultaneously fresh and nostalgic, even after nearly 2 decades. Their songs make me feel like I'm reading a classy book under the shade of a tree on some new Ivy campus on a cool day in late spring. Sweaters, lemonades, tennis, youth.
Dev Hynes (Blood Orange) casually chilling on the sitar okaaaaaaay
The drum beat and sitar combo bring some 90s nostalgia.
Back to life...
@@beatteks8535 Ohh I knew I recognized it!
100% Very strong Moby vibes
czcams.com/video/4XJxFAoiWSY/video.html Primitive radio gods
That's one of the best live performances I've ever seen. Mindblowing!
This is one of the most incredible songs I’ve heard in a while
Y’all go listen to their new album it’s stellar
Hearing the amazing recorded version first, I was not expecting this to sound even better live
I can't think of many other bands around today that put this much time and effort into crafting the structure of their songs and the instrumentation.
Well said!
The choir adds so much to this performance. Boys are killing it with these songs.
Their live performances never dissapoint!
I’ll tell you what that Austin concert was surreal. Ezra is fabulous live
@@mattw8350 I’ll be seeing them in Primavera this year, I’m so excited!!!
Shoutout to all those Mary Boones
Second time watching this and I just noticed that is Dev Hynes (Blood Orange, Lightspeed Champion) sitting down in the back playing the sitar!
I knew they were friends, but it's crazy seeing him back there!
he's having the time of his life back there. we love to see it.
Just saw them on my 40th bday in Austin, TX for the eclipse show. My life is complete! 💚
That was Ezra's birthday too!
Lucky! Bet that was cool. Happy Birthday
Dev Hynes!
Love his music, watch new film “Challengers” - song “Uncle ACE” plays a prominent role in
This is a freaking Masterpiece
Vampire Weekend at the top of their game. What a beautiful performance.
i would die for this band
A refreshing change to have a singer who can actually stay in tune.
Are you 100% sure there is no autotune being employed?
I don’t trust anything post 2000 is the talent of those attributed with the performance!!
@@kevinmcconnell3641he slips slightly out of key at times, so there is definitely not auto tune happening here.
@@DeesBees76 did you read the original comment?
Thanks to you tube I have access to the music of my youth, and have zero interest in most anything post 1980;)
I’ve been waiting 43 years for something new, not just more RnR or pop. When you grow up with the best music written in my life, at some point it’s just more of the same. Ain’t nothing I’ve heard in the past 40 years tops CSNY, Starship, Heart, YES, Ronstadt, etc!!
@@DeesBees76 this is untrue - what you have stated is not indicative of no AutoTune. As someone who has a Degree in Audio Production and has worked in the field for 5+ years in a live music context, I am 99% sure that this has been tuned in post-production, or they have employed a real time autotune in their live show setup. No this does not make him a bad singer, or a cheat. Nearly every professional live show that you can currently see uses the same method
@@kevinmcconnell3641guys look Mark Fisher came out of his grave to say hi
Actual magic
Music is the oldest form of black magic known to the species, capable of causing actual physiological reactions in vast groups of human beings, even against their will. For example: If ever captured by cannibals in Borneo, play Michael Jackson's Billie Jean and they will somehow all know the words and start dancing.
Probably best I wasn’t in the audience to view this in person, I almost fainted when the choir started. I’m not leaving til I hear Mary Boone when I see them live in Indy. This is one of their strongest releases in a while
I did not realize I was holding my breath for quite some time. This was absolutely Breathtaking
Love Vampire Weekend. They are one of the best bands around, still. 🧛🏻♀️🧛🏻♂️
they just get better with age. they've given us incredible albums for over the past decade. truly incredible musicians. this performance gave me chills
wow, this performance, arguably their best song so far
best tv performance ever
It really is in that conversation 🔥
I could have watched a full hour show. Sweet vibe.
Look for their total eclipse show performance 😊
No kidding....performing the whole album with that mix would be jaw dropping
Can’t stop watching this, absolute perfection
It's addictive and brilliant AF🔥🙌
Me too!
One of my favorite tracks off the new album. Absolutely beautiful and incredibly performed!
Seeing them with my two teenaged daughters in Vancouver, BC mid June at outdoor concert. So stoked. Been a top 5 for me since my introduction to them with contra.
Saw them in Vancouver last time they were here; exceptional performance. Enjoy!
I often forget how much I like Vampire Weekend. They're not on my playlist, but I always enjoy their songs when I stumble upon them.
The A&R man said, “I don’t hear a single.”
Wow! Best song off the album!
The new album is fantastic but this was spectacular. Can't wait to catch them live later this year.
Absolutely flawless...I have goosebumps
Loving their music more than ever.
This is an amazing song and The guys are my favorite band ever theirs songs are incredible their knowledge of music I can’t wait to see them live in
Dublin well done Ezra! 😊
This song is a masterpiece
The Soul II Soul beat is perfect here. Just proves that sometimes the obvious choice is the right choice
That was sensational
Unbelievably magical song, definitely 2nd or 1st on the album for me
Haven’t listened to this band, may have heard the name in passing at best, but def looking them up now ☺️
Beyond excellence
There is nothing else like this
BEST thing I watched on the internet in 2024 so far. Well done!!
More music, yes, please and thank you.
Obsessed with this song. My new favorite!! Can’t wait to see you guys in San Diego!
This is awesome performance from the best band living in my opinion
What a performance!! These guys never disappoint
Music's specially quality is its capacity to move us...this happened to me after hearing VW on the Daily Show playing "Mary Boone." What an outstanding tune, the melody and the chorus...simply moving. I can't stop listening...loudly!!! Thanks VW
The production, musicianship, and singing all coming together like this.... ☝️👌👌
Great song, great musicians, and very beautifully filmed. Thanks for the great work!
A choir and a sitar?!? Wow.
A cello too
BEST TV LIVE PERFORMANCE IVE EVER SEEN ❤😮❤😮🎉🎉
Hey, cool, I'm pretty old and so are they! Wow, they come a long way. Always great, though.
Such a bop. Fantastic live performance. Can’t wait to see them at Jazz Fest!
Amazing sing. Amazing performance. Thank you for gifting the world with this beautiful song! 🙏🏻❤️🙌

My favorite song on the album and this performance made me love it even more!! Incredible!!!
Just wonderful.
Oh, I love everything about this.
Brilliant. New album best of year so far.
Wow. When you can recreate that song (with so much going on) live... What a treat that must've been
Incredible!
So so incredible, this is my favorite song in the album and listening to it live just took it to another level, wow wow wow, what a great record, love VW so much!

Amazing. Just...amazing.
Primitive Radio Gods still hits 25 yrs later
I couldn’t believe it when i found out the sample is NOT Primitive Radio Gods but Souls 2 Soul’s “back to life, back to reality”!
@@yield2117 wow I hear it now. Still hits!! Can’t wait to see em thos summer
3:49 sample is from Back to Life by Soul 2 Soul.
Beautiful performance. The choir was amazing
My favorite track from the new album 🥰
just a few musical savants from England performing another masterpiece from another legendary album
They’re from New York and New Jersey. Not York and Jersey 😅 unless this is a VW inside joke
I don’t think Ezra’s voice has ever sounded better than this. Amazing song and fantastic performance
This is peak. Like how do we get better than this?
You're probably right...witness 🙌
Listening this guys since 2008
i've never heard of these guys until this performance. this was so vibey i couldn't stop bobbing my head
This album is incredible! I'm so glad I have tickets to see them in St. Augustine later this year!
I suspect their new album is amazing! What a gorgeous song!!
Perfect performance 🤩
