- Mouse is the mascot for Cupboard Maker books. He is an official bookstore cat and this is truly his kingdom. His mom was fostered by the store and it was later revealed that she was having kittens. While his littermates found new families, Mouse chose to rule the warehouse and get into the customers' hearts.

Bookstore cats are an old tradition in independent bookstores where the staff are knowledgeable, the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and the customers aren't a bunch of Karens screaming "What's this CAT doing in here?!! I DEMAND TO SEE THE MANAGER!!" like you
Right, allergic people will love it
There are 3 used bookstores in my city, all lovely places that I would love to haunt. But all 3 have resident cats, and I am terribly, horribly allergic to cats. People who are not allergic just don't get it; it's not just the cat but their fur and especially dander that are the triggers, which gets everywhere they reside. Within 5 minutes of stepping in any place, home or business, that has a cat, I slip into asthmatic breathing and the effects last for hours, no matter the medication. Empathy for those 10-20% of Americans allergic to cats would be appreciated.

@@happyhattergamer8078 You’d be surprised how many cat people have allergies. Some people take medicine or get shots if it’s really bad. Doing lots of laundry and using air purifiers help too.

This place is in Enola, PA and is one of the best bookstores in the Harrisburg region. Go for the books, stay for the cats! Mouse is a sweetheart, and will follow you everywhere if he doesn't get distracted by something else first! Annika is a floofy, beautiful diva!

Mouse should have his picture posted as Employee of the Month. Most people I know join book clubs for the wine (and sometimes the books). Mouse gives them a third and even FLUFFIER reason to gather each week!

I think Mouse thrives on the vast variety of his daily life. That has to be mentally stimulating for Mouse and could result in a longer life for Mouse, which would make a lot of people happy in the bookstore.

It makes sense that he enjoys living in a bookstore even with all of those people around. It's common courtesy to stay quiet since people are reading, so there's little in the way of sensory noise to stress him out. Plus, people are fixated on reading, so he can be the one to approach them rather than the other way around.

Mouse is the best boi! I had a tiny foster Pomeranian. The lady who adopted her takes her to reading night at the library, along with a few other dogs, and they sit in the laps of children’s with reading issues. The children read to the dogs and actually seem to relax and they read much better.

What a fantastic bookstore! And yes, they choose us. We have had rescue cats over the last 27 years, house has never been empty and they give so much. They can tell exactly the beat of the house. Well done Mouse and to all of those who have passed through, now playing in the warm sunshine at Rainbow Bridge ❤️.

Twice Sold Tales in the Capitol Hill District of Seattle in the 1990s. Multiple cats in the bookstore. Little walkways on top of the shelves for them. God, I miss those days.
If I went to that bookstore to shop, or was in the book club, I'd have a really hard time paying attention, cos I'd be hanging out with Mouse! That bookstore is run by some wonderful people! ❤❤

Mouse is a great worker! There’s an orange cat called Sweet Tangerine who similarly works in a Kaohsiung, Taiwan metro station who has a lot of fans; they also call him the Station Master! 😸

A book store with cats. Cats in a book store. That's it, I comings I just need to boom a flight across the pond.
The local bookstore in town has a black cat named Ink. He's on all the merchandise and social media, and you'll see him just chilling on a chair somewhere. He's diabetic and the owners have to control how much he eats. One time I was in the stacks and on the other side I hear the owner telling Ink he can't eat till dinnertime and he was arguing with her 😂
This is such a heart-warming story and Mouse makes an excellent bookstore cat. I'm not sure how it could be possible, given his parentage but Mouse exhibits both the appearance and characteristics of being a Norwegian Forest Cat
(almond-shaped eyes, furnished ears, fluffy coat, lion-mane ruff, floofy tail, fluffy pantaloons and chilled, friendly nature with all humans and other cats) I am lucky enough to have a Norwegian Forest cat myself (a female called Roxie) and believe me, Mouse looks just like one. They remain kitten like and kitten-sized until they reach five years old before attaining their adult size so, if Mouse suddenly gets much bigger once he turns five, then I will be even more convinced that he's a Wegie!
I would be visiting the bookstore every day just to see Mouse if I lived closer.

My two favorite things in the world, cats and books, under one roof! I hope there is a nice cafe where real hot cocoa (not packaged) is available and soft comfy, well-lit reading chairs. Any cat, any cat or kitten at all, would be welcome to sit on my lap while I read and sipped at such a bookstore!🙂
I had a bookshop in Ohio wherein shelter cats were fostered and then adopted by customers. More than 50 were adopted from my shop over the years. I then wrote a series of novels about the experience ("Shelve Under C" is the first) to encourage other shops to look into fostering dogs, cats, rabbits, etc. The business that took over my location continued to foster, thankfully.

There was a store here in Cape Coral with a store cat. There was a big sign in the door notifying people of the cat. It was a beautiful white cat. Very friendly too. What’s better than relaxing with a book and a warm cat
