  • Well, I gave in and bought an AM transmitter kit. In this video I go over the transmitter and answer questions like, should you buy one, does it work well, is a kit the way to go? I also show you how to adjust the transmitter so that broadcasts the full AM frequency range.

    I have built this kit myself as well. It has fair quality, not too hi-fi though. Designer has added a summation amplifier to mix left and right audio channels. Also, he has provided jumpers to by-pass one or more stages. No more than a meter of range on any of medium wave band frequencies. Keep the coil in the middle of ferrite to get max inductance. He has used 46 guage litz wire which is fair enough for small power. It generates around 50 to 100 milli-volts carrier which is amplified to about 2 - 3 volts and modulated after single audio mixing and amplification stage. BTW, same designer had released a newer version of it later. If anyone wishes to build it, i suggest he/she build the newwer one. Regards!

      Thank you for all that helpful info. Definitely seems like a good idea to get the new version.

    Very good video, congratulations!
    What is your opinion about the sound quality?
    The distance is around one meter?
    Thanks and 73!

      The sound is decent. The range depends on the radio. On a modern portable radio I was able to get approximately 6 feet, whatever that is in meters. On some radios it is far less. Not high powered at all. I do find it very useful to have though.

      Reception? It isn't a receiver. It is a transmitter, sir. And same thing happened to me then I noticed that I forgot to add the jumpers and it worked then perfectly fine.

    There is one way not mentioned in the video if you have an antique radio and want to play music from that era you can find big band music on the internet and play through the radio. 73

      Absolutely. Anything you can connect with the appropriate audio output will work.

      If sending to a decent newer radio, you may reach about 6 feet. Older tube radios are far less. I use it primarily to test radios in frequencies that local noise prevents me from receiving. I also use it when doing youtube videos to avoid copyright strikes.

    I wouldn't mind building this if I can change the frequency to one of the ham bands. It would be a good project. 73

      @oldelectronicsfan5136  Před rokem

      Someone more knowledgeable than I am could do that. Definitely would require some parts changing to make it ham compatible.

      @@oldelectronicsfan5136 yes coils need to be tuned less windings and variable capacitors. I used to pick up short Wave on a broadcast band radio just by tuning the I F coils. There was not one radio safe with me around. The only radio I never messed with was the Atwater Kent Radio because it had short Wave bands on it from 1.6 MHz to 18 MHz.the radio was good at picking up broadcast band all over the USA and Canada and even Cuba.
