Remember when JR wasn't going to buy any more cheap cars? Whew! Worst 48 hours of my life!
I was thinking the same thing like his channel was gonna get boring then boom 48 hours we were in luck and hes back at it….. i also have to say im a little disappointed about not getting any updates on the fishing cabin amd him selling it
Thought he said "no more boring cars"... They needed to be considered "fun cars".
Nevertheless, also glad he is still bringing attainable cars back to life.
It's hard for him to kick his addiction haha
😂😂😂😂😂
Pretty sure he said that he had already bought some cars and needed to go through them. These are likely the last ones.
I may be biased but I would love more Redline content.
“It’s tough to find really fun cheap cars anymore” - Truer words were never spoken. CRX Si owner, the epitome of a fun cheap car.
Another old cool car to get would be at 2000 Ford focus Sony limited edition. They're fairly rare as well. They have a killer Sony stereo system in it with an amplifier and 10" subwoofer in the trunk.
Sounds like a dealership package
That was a thing? Now I have to have it!! 💯
They also had a Kona edition that came with a Bike on top.
@@jamesmiddleton4741it was not. It's in some Ford literature. I bought a focus new in 2000
@@05milmachine90 I used to own one back in 2002. Bought it used. I believe the package said it was like a $2,500 package on the old original window sticker and buying the vehicle used it added no value. It had the Sony xplode head unit Sony explode speakers in all the doors Sony exploded amplifier and a Sony xplod subwoofer in the trunk in a speaker box The speaker box was removable and had these screw on anchors on each side of the trunk to attach it inside the trunk. So wouldn't go sliding around like one of these self-install jobs. If I remember correctly they also removed the fog lights from the SE model when it was a Sony limited edition. And had some type of rocker covers as well as part of the package.
JR, I understand that it was frustrating putting in all that work, to sell a car and break even… I looked at it like you were making your money off your videos, and giving back by providing good cars for reasonable prices. I agree the daily videos were exhausting, I can’t imagine the work that went into that! Thanks for the great content!
Take it from an old body shop manager both those bumper covers are repairable. They would need to be removed for repair and repainted but I've fixed far worse.
It’s quite a stretch to say the paint would cost $800
The guy who invented the plastic that Saturn used taught chemistry in the college I went to.
😮wow
I used JB weld on a Honda radiator 20+ years ago. I lost touch with the car after 10 years but the repair had not failed to that point! That stuff works quite well, it was meant as a temp. repair but the owner just let her ride!🤔😁
It really never fails! 💯
This is one reason why i came here. Cars like these. Episodes like these. I think JR listened to the screaming viewers once he posted his previous situation video. Cheers.
Used JB Weld to fix a rust hole in an oil pan on a '92 Taurus with the 3.8. It lasted another 3 years until the owner traded it in.
JB Weld is a very good solution for many fixes. I repaired a $30,000 metal working machine where its cast bearing housing was broken. I used JB weld and it held together for over 20 years until I sold it off...
It has happened to myself a few times but if the OB2 port isn't working it is generally a blown cigarette lighter fuse. ZZP has your AC Delco supercharger oil. I highly recommend considering the milage to have the timing tensioner system replaced. General Motors went through three different iterations of the tensioner itself and it is suggested replaced before 80k and you're twice that.
I remember going to the dealership to look at saturns and looking at a car exactly like this. It Definitely was not a 20,000 dollar car but then again everything on them was an extra. Even that blue color was a extra. The cover on the engine your talking about was a GM accessory, the corner roof sides had an option for a different color but the stock exhaust sounded great. The 2 examples I saw were 28,000 dollars and some change. A black Saturn Vue was my favorite one, it looked very cool.
I have belt moldings and sideview mirrors, any parts you need for the Saturn I got you John. -John
Free repairs are always awesome, even when they aren't perfect as long as it looks better. Watching now, going to be awesome when done ❤
Love the Ion, those things are surprisingly quick for what they are! Ever consider adding a Saab to the fleet? Probably terrible for content but would be cool to see!
I had a 9-5 Aero everyone loved, made tons of videos! 🍻
JR: Not gonna fix cheap cars anymore.
Also JR: Look at this cheap car I'm fixing.
he said " no more boring cars"
The fact that JR a tech savvy guy hasn't jumped in the 3D printing bandwagon is amazing to me. I say this cuz he complained about that scanner model not having any hook to the steering wheel.. 3D print one!
18:50 make it look cool with the ziptie "drifter stitches." would look cool, and if you say the bumper's toast, drilling wouldn't matter.
This is the good content we like! Keep it up!
No its not.
Ran around with a few of these and a few Cobalt SS's when we had a 2003 SRT-4 we bought new here in St Louis Mo.. They were fun to drive and wicked quick. The modded ones sounded so good! Years later when I Built a 88 Fiero gt I wanted to go with a lsj but there just wasn't enough support for the lsj engine/trans combo in the 88 fiero gt platform so I went the tried and true L67 3800sc route. I've always said I would like to find a Ion Redline to mess around with. Maybe I need to start looking. You aren't too far from STL...Maybe I need to hit you up when you get done messing around with it!
Nice upload on a sunday morning.
I always eat my bowl of morning cereal to "Watch JR Go".....
6:00 check flow, 04, and early 05 Ion and cobalt's had the IC pump wired backwards
I remember the commercial with these ions there was a bicyclist, kids playing, then hitting it. Surprised this had a dent, cause I see these bumpers cracked or mostly the paint is chipped. Can’t wait to see what you have in store for this Saturn.
When looking for parts for these cobalt ss share alot of parts. Suspension, engine parts.... etc.
i did not forget, this is exactly what i want to see!
That blue is nice on a Saturn. Maybe not worth it to take it to a detailer, but a little buff, and ceramic would look cool
My E34 had so many JB Weld repairs, and have held up for a decade +
I like Steel Stick because it gets harder than JB.
A motor cleaning video would be cool!
Love this car. I always thought they were pretty rare and cool back then and even more now.
Subbed for ion content
I used to want one of these so bad, I remember sitting in a demo at a county fair loving it as a teenager
clean the engine and everything under the hood
I took it for a test drive back in the day. Real fun car to drive. First gear was really damn short from what I remember.
I love this car! I have the four-door automatic NA non redline version. 😂
Smaller Pulley!!! With B4 & after dyno session! lol would be really cool to see
Good Evening John Ross
Hey Douglas! 🍻
That bumper pop scared me 😂
Could you use a two cycle fuel filter to replace the missing filter? Might look ghetto but still work.....
JR thought his head was a goner.😂
The vacuum line on the boost bypass solenoid to the valve you replaced is only a bleed for traction control that the ecu uses to bleed pressure to open the bypass to control traction. Not surprising it didn't trigger a dtc
The intercooler pump relay is working but trust me the pump is not kicking on as gm got the wires wrong need to swap the wires and pump will work
True story!!
JBWELD is the BOMB! All the things we joke about as gear heads, "Just JB weld it" it would actually fix
if you want a steeringwheel hook, why not 3D print something to hold it? you're a tech guy... give that a shot 🙂
Radio is probably fine. I’d lean more towards the amp being bad. Mine on my Ion 3 was bad when I got it had to turn it all the way up to even get the littlest bit of sound. I replaced mine with one from the junkyard. You could use them amp for any ion 2003-2005, 2006-2007 were different
Saturns were basically disposable cars. But he's correct about the price of new cars; It's hard to find a fun new car for less than $40k. Even Miata's are that price anymore.
Great video!
Well a Saturn ion red eye in 2004 started at $21000, if you adjust to inflation that’s $34000 in today’s money. With that you can get a gr86/brz, a base golf gti, a base camaro, civic SI, acura integra, base mustang, mx5, mini cooper… etc
All unquestionably better cars than the Saturn back in the day.
Inflation is hard to wrap your mind around. But 21k in 2004 put towards a S&P 500 would have been $120k today. Average household income in 2004 was 60k, today is 110k, the median household income in 2004 was 46k, today it’s $78k, so for all intents and purposes the enthusiast cars cost about the same (as average time of work to acquisition) if anything, cars are better value than they were.
@@jowarrior Well said!
I like the name "Saturn Red Eye", LOL!
@@Flies2FLL red line, my bad.
@@jowarrior I thought it was funny as hell!
👍
@@jowarrior To be fair, you'd have to compare the Saturn with other 20 year old cars that it would have competed with new - The Acura RSX Type-S, VW GTI, Honda Civic Si, Ford Focus SVT, Nissan Sentra SE-R, Dodge Neon SRT, Mini Cooper S - All varied pretty wildly in terms of performance advantages/disadvantages and general build quality/reliability/features & content back then, but they had similar sticker prices - The Saturn wasn't a dumpster fire when compared to many of the other options within its early 2000's era.
Hey JR your lucky, I love Saturns don’t get me wrong but my L200 just died due to a computer issue and a GM foul up that you can not buy another PCM for a loaded L200. Pray your PCM does not die on you. I don’t have 3 grand for a program unit
GM typically has a slow frequency calibration for ABS, something in the range of 8-12 pulses/second. On performance vehicles, like Corvette, its between 18-22 p/sec. 22 p/sec is considered the highest cycle speed for most vehicles.
sorry to break it to ya but saturn after sc/sl series are not real saturns, just re brands
those are some cool wheels
You better put some proper Redline oil in it to match its name JR.... prolly 5w30 euro spec, but I'm not overly familiar with the LSJ.
I wonder if the supercharger oil needs to be changed out like what a MINI Cooper S requires?
JR! You said you're going to stop showing us crappy cars. Were you just joking? Love your channel. Hate your cars lol
Brothers are always good at the "Not me" game, don't you think?
well thats why u gwt for buyvery old cars...also need to replace all the split loom tubing too...they are all cracked or disintegrating as u touch it
Regarding the "atmosphere air filter" for the Boost Control Solenoid, how about a cheap clear plastic lawn mower fuel filter? It's about the same size, and at least as good as the original filter.
i used to have this car motor mounts are garbo and without an lsd ur spinning the left wheel at every light seats were comfy tho
Try putting great stuff expanding foam see if that will push that bumper cover out more.
Lol
Your camera auto focus is trying to focus on the brightest part of the image, which is actually the light reflection in the diag's screen. You need to shade the screen from the light so that the screen itself is the light that the camera will focus on and also try to keep your hands close to the screen and not the camera lens as you bring them into shot.
That bumper pop was the bomb!
16:42 lol $800 😳 i do my own paint and repairs on bumpers, farming out the jobs always costs a packet.
nice!
@ 10:30 & 10:47 is the belt driving the supercharger inside out? Shouldn't ribbed side be down on the pulley?
Wouldn't tire tread dept affect the ECM mileage? Depending on the mileage. Or smaller wheels?
I love these cheap odd cars!
Randy Sheer From Auto Auction Rebuilds Need To Do Work On Camera Lol 😂😅
That deflated football can make a good glove
Definitely crazy how expensive cars have gotten. However, a new VW GTI can be had at just over 30k. One of only a few decent buys left. (Bias because I have one, but very happy with the car for the money) Adjusted for inflation, that’s even money with what that Saturn cost new.
Often, if you can get behind these plastic fender bumps, carefully use a hair drier to soften them and push them out
$20,000 in 2004 is roughly equivalent to $28,300. You could get a brand new Honda Civic Si, Subaru BRZ, Subaru WRX, 4 cylinder turbo mustang or Camaro, VW GTi... Etc.
I really like that shade of blue. Any idea what Saturn called It?
All I know is that it was an extra cost Tri coat option color.
Electric Blue - 2004 - 70/WA-885K
Cool car
We won’t be having any GOAT slander 😂 unless we’re talking about the tuck rule game!
Cheap, fun car to drive if you ignore the fuel costs, Mazda rx8, doing suicide before your Saturn, rear wheel drive and so much fun on twisty roads.
I think an AMC Pacer would be most excellent on the channel JR?
You should try to get a Honda S2000 that needs work.
Do you have the harness for the c5 that runs from the front to the 3 plugs on the transaxle?
Yes, I have two for manuals, email me 🍻
What’s the email? Sorry I can’t find it
@@MPower0908 watchjrgo at gmail
3D print the seatbelt holder worth a shot…
Will you be selling this one? I have been looking for one of these for quite some time.
Kia Forte GT is a really good value
On the hood bumper take to any body shop they repair that plastics
Look at you and your on time title/marketing😂
What is there today? The Subaru BRZ. 20 years later than that redline, and the entry price is 30k. 'Bout the same considering inflation.
Cool
🤔 Who still says that in 2024 ?..
my old saturn sl2 has a motorized seat belt that tried to choke you every time you opened the door
6:52 Did Ferris Bueller try reversing the mileage in the car? =P
I need a Heat Gun! I read that you heat up the bumper, then pour cold water on the bumper. Pop!
The one he has came from Harbor Freight. I have one just like it.
This car will be challenging. Clutches are no fun on these! Bleeding them suck and the welded nut plates are usually broken or the subframe bolts that go into them are galled into the bushing steel!! When you get the subframe down, replace those damn nut plates ASAP!!
I can hardly wait for the 8 seconds to 60 rip.
The one car you forgot to mention is the Civic Si. Still available and goes for $30k or less. Probably the only like it left.
supercharger removal is a 10 min job - super easy
Look at that pinky. 😂
The Launch link heads over to the Spanish version.
Whoops, changed it back to the .com, good call 💯
Is the equinox fixed already?
How do I email you. There’s a front bumper cover in my area KCMO for a Red Line.
Who put that Saab engine in that Saturn? 😁
Heat up the bumper and use cold water and massage it
0:04 Drums Blown? 😮
I used a inflation calculator it's close
Full disclosure: I never was a fan of those Saturns Redline,; I was more of a Cobalt SS fan. But that is exactly why you should properly save this car, because it represents the end of fun enthusiast cars from GM, and no one will be saving those Saturns; they'll focus more on the Cobalt SS, Solstice, Sky and maybe even the HHR SS for the weird factor... But the only place I ever see one of these IONs, Redline or not anymore, is in the junkyard. People are forgetting these FAST, so that when nostalgia hits, there will be so few around that they may go up in value...
Should pick up a 3800 supercharged
Hey
🥇 boom!
You can still get a base subaru wrx under 30k
