    I jad a vue redline in college. It was a great ride, sporty, the honda v6 sounded great, powertrain was bulletproof, plastic panels meant no dents despite all the dangers of a college campus. Honestly, one of the best overall vehicles GM has ever made, it.was affordable, spacious, comfortable, efficient, and pretty good performer. It moved me across the country, handled everything from FL torrential downpours to snow and ice up north. Kinda miss it to be honest.

    I bought my silver saturn vue redline brand new in May 2004 and I still have it in 2023. I love it as much as 20 years ago. The speed the awd..the comfort.. goes thru snow like butter. Absolutely no rust or dents. I have never had a car this long!!❤❤

    Too bad GM didn't have sense enough keep using Honda engines in Saturn's.

      Timing belt? No thanks. Besides the Buick 3800 was way better than the Honda 3.5.

      They should have just sold rebadged Opels as Saturns from the start. Very few people were buying Saturns when they were weird, and that was not going to keep the brand alive.

      That's why there's so many of the first gen Vue still on the road. The Honda H5 transmission it uses isn't known to be super reliable, but it's a smooth transmission.

    I saw the Ion redline with its suicide doors in a dealership show room back in 04. I bought a mint redline in 2019 with 73k miles for 4grand. This is my first ‘sports car’ and it satisfies any dire need I have for speed. I’ve only thrown in ZZP exshaust and down pipe and it pretty much makes it well rounded in every gear. It still could use a little extra power and it’s been proven I can get the car to 275hp with a few more inexpensive mods and still have a very reliable car. GM actually sold this car with such kits and ZZP is still making them to this day, although there website isn’t necessarily promoting Saturn anymore, but they still have the parts available.

    Man I used to like that ion! The styling looked very cool and the performance for that time wasn’t bad at all! To bad gm killed the Saturn division!

    I drove my neighbors Ion redline at a time when a 95 mustang cobra was my daily driver and the Saturn felt faster. I don't know if it was faster but it was every bit as fun to drive and it felt as powerful as the mustang but was easier to toss around. There are not too many around today but if a person ever gets a chance to drive one, do it, they're fun.

  • @jlcii
    @jlcii Před rokem +4

    I love John Davis, but he misspoke when he called the Ion a subcompact car. It definitely is not a subcompact, since that would put it in the same league as a Kia Rio or Hyundai Accent. This was clearly a Civic/ Corolla competitor, making it a compact.

    • @irlredline7965
      @irlredline7965 Před rokem +2

      Most definitely. It was very similar to the HHR , Chevy Cobalt and Pontiac G5 which were all compacts

    A former coworker of mine had a base AWD Vue that she crashed on three separate occasions. Not sure why she still had a license or was driving the same car with its multicolored body panels.

    Why TF would GM put a Honda engine on the Vue they should’ve stick to adding a Vortec 4.0 L V6

      The story goes: Honda wanted access to the "Onstar" Satelite System as Honda was loosing customers by NOT having in the Accords so. After multiple conversations and aggressive negotiations, Honda finally asked GM, "what do WE have that YOU want"? GM said " NOTHING" for the 3rd time. Honda made the "proposal" that they'd give 1 million V-6 engines for access to Onstar. The catch: the Honda J, 6 cyinder engine could ONLY go in Saturn Vues! I called bullshit on that deal! GM in its asinine mindset set should have told Honda: "Onstar" can and will only go in Acura products!(since we're attaching strings to our little deal). More than a few Saturn AND Honda insiders have repeated this story WORD FOR WORD! I OWNED a 2005, silver nickel Redline with the ebony interior. The options I foolishly passed on was the 5 disc changer, rear spoiler and the dual heated front seats! The tires, 245-50-18 came courtesy of the BMW 7 series. $265.00 per tire was a pain in the A$$! so was the premium fuel! I put 323,000 miles on it before it died in the driveway at work...

    At this point, Saturn was just rebadged GM garbage.
