Watch Keenan demonstrate some of the fighting techniques that earned him his purple belt, and elaborate on how his lifelong affinity for combat sports is connected with his larger vision of sustainable living, self-sufficiency and creativity.

erravi hey. Just wanted to send you a virtual accolade. Depression is a bitch and to hear you saying you found some light here is just a proof you won't be beaten easily!
What Maynard says is what Maynard is. All he portrays in this series resonates with me so strongly perhaps because there is so much truth and authenticity in the message. This message is: in order to live a happy life, you need meaning. To find meaning you need to search. So you need to make an effort, it's hard. But that's good. You then need to be ok with the fact you can't get things right straight away and that you're gonna make mistakes. So then you need to be creative. Which means being your own, or on your own. And martial arts and music emulates that.
So anyway sorry for ranting but whatever resonated with you in this video is what you are searching in the universe. But more importantly know that the universe is searching for you to get this very thing. You saw the sign that you needed. Open up to the signs, be ok to change. Changing is scary because you step into the unknown. But learning new things and going for new experiences is what makes us grow and feel alive. That's what Maynard also says.
So I wish you the very best of luck. Hang in there long enough and then let yourself go into whatever the universe puts in front of you.
      Peace out!

This was a great series! As a brewer by trade, I get his love of wine. It's art in it's own right and it's a struggle all the time. Started out as a big Tool fan back in the early 90's. At some point I became a brewer and a fan of wine. A coworker handed me a copy of Wine Spectator magazine probably 12 years ago and inside was an interview with Maynard. I was blown away! I learned he was more than just a singer in a band. I feel we've been on somewhat parallel courses over the last 20yrs, albeit he's well off and I'm struggling. The struggle is the spice of this life though. I've been working hard on my craft while working hard on my own little urban farm, trying to support local at every turn and enjoying each day with my family. Nothing better than an afternoon in the yard watching my dogs and chickens, enjoying conversation with my family and a nice beer while picking some fresh veggies.
Jerome is a cool town, I haven't been there in 20yrs or more, I should take a ride up there soon, it's only a few hours away. Cheers.

I am a musician, tool and the surrounding projects have always been interesting and inspiring to me. Now how ever my brain is trying to wrap itself around what the heck is going on out there in Jerome Arizona. Its like He took a long look at the rest of the world, didnt like what he saw and decided to create his own little world but with locally sourced pasta and wine. The man clearly managed to make a little bubble of community in a world otherwise hellbent on egotism and xenophobia. Equally bizzare as it is inspiring and heart warming.
    Peace

One of the best documentaries I've seen in a long time. Delving into the genius and humility of Maynard is simply awesome. This is someone at the top of their craft whos ego could've easily destroyed him just because of his endless talents. Instead he's taken that level of accomplishment and invested in people and community. It's like Jordan Peterson's principles of responsibility. Very refreshing and it's truly made me reevaluate my life. In a very good way. Maynard makes me feel lazy. I need to get my ass moving and do more to leave my imprint

Been in combat sports for 15 years now both muay thai and boxing, i'd like to think what would have happened if i started younger and had someone there to push me to compete, when you're working full time however and you're putting your body through the grinder every day and trying to get the days off to fly out and compete its a really tough endeavor ... i've been fortunate enough to work with world champion boxers and legendary Nak Muay's in my time and even though i might never win a championship belt, i still go home 4 times a day in my own gym setup out in the middle of nowhere sticks that sits on the edge of a lake and go through the same routine i did in the gym that birthed that passion ... I keeps my mind and my body sharp, lean and ready for action, it fortifies the mind and its just feels amazing after a good session ... I'll never stop, and being a big fan of tool and producer myself its interesting to see Maynard fall in love with martial arts because in a way ... they are very similar, there's a rhythm to martial arts, a note being played with every technique, a symphony of actions that generate explosive results ... Its the alchemy of violence and its a beautiful thing when your body is working in harmony and everything is clicking after so many years of dedication to get there.

Brilliant series with Maynard. Words of wisdom that shouldn’t be taken lightly. What he has to say is very inspiring. I’ve been working for my company for 10 years now, I’m 51 and even though I only kind of like what I do, I’m very good at it but I wish I could walk away and do something that I feel more passionate about just for me and make a good living doing it and possibly pass it along to my kids if they so see fit when they are older. But at my age and not having a safety net and being the single, responsible parent that I am, I’m scared tbh. I’m not sure what direction I would even go in or where to start. Not sure what it is exactly I’m passionate about but I do feel the passion on the inside especially when I hear Maynard speak so eloquently about, do what you feel is right for you in your heart and try to learn and grow as a human being, kind of way. Like spiral out, but I’m still trying to find where to spiral out to. He’s very wise and gives great advise and it just inspires me. I just wish I knew where to place my inspiration. I’m bored with my job and just wish I had some other way to succeed for myself instead of for the company I work for or anyone else. I just need to think about it and hope I find my way. I know for sure I’ll come back to this series whenever I need a pep talk. Thanks for the insight and wisdom Maynard. You’re truly an inspiration. Much love and respect.

But, I'll forgive him that one! Lol! I learn alot from this man. I enjoy his music so much. It's so thougt provoking! It's nice to hear him speak on the things he enjoys and why. We'll never totally KNOW what makes him tick, but this peek into a small corner of his mind was nice! Thanx, Maynard. You'll NEVER know just how IMPORTANT you are to so many of us! Fuzz Demon i understand what you mean. My lady was slowly getting me into APC, and one night, we did LSD for the first time, was the most profound and blissful experience, listening to APC, was as if I was transported elsewhere and living different lives/experiences, based on the song, was absolutely intense. From that moment forward, Maynard became an even larger part of my life. Even aside from his music, hes a admirable person in numerous other aspects. Saw APC once in Denver and that was amazing too. So now, past year or so, been bringing myself up to date on Tool. Just got interested a little late, was only into mainstream radio rap crap growing up, 18 joined the army, blind wittle sheep, so none of the music really resonated with me in a way that I could intrepet...Now, I've gone through enough and experienced enough to intrepet the music more. Long as Im growing, each time I hear a song, I intrepet it differently, its neat.

J Jizzle Congrats you woke up that night .It's hard to explain to people what you experienced but those who know what it's like to have that "spiritual " experience your in tune with now. You see the world in all its beauty and downfalls. You see people different you loose ego gain awareness and become a better person. Now search for things that give you that feeling you experienced without any mind altering substance. We all can be one conscience when we go deep within ourselves and become awakened. Now you see your shadow changing 🕉

Fuzz Demon Fuzz Demon Everything you said highly resonated with me, very well worded. After I got out the army, i started going to college and volunteering time at a local, independent car audio shop (can see from my channel that music, audio, car audio has always been big to me), after a few months of developing this close bond with the owners ( a guy and his companion/co-worker), I found out they dabbled in psychedelics a bit. At that point (like 2 years ago), I'd never been much aware on psychedelics. He told me he'd done DMT a few times and had some if I ever felt I wanted to try it. Few months go by, about the only thing I watch on it is that "DMT The Spirit Molecule" (and read very little of Strassmans book). So, ultimately, I undergo the DMT experience, and wow. Long story short, its beautifully tragic, terrifyingly profound, blissfully reality-shattering; was a divine wake up call. To this day I randomly express "thanks" for the experience that day, was so re(un)veal(veil)ing, same for LSD. Tried a tab once (my lady and i) with another couple, nothing really happened. Few months later, we (my lady and i) did lsd again (was told it was tab and a half), and absolutely everything happened. After those 2 experiences, there's a lot of illusions i see through, and a lot of things I "just get" now, its just, wow lol. So yeah, after those 2 theraputic experiences, I'm good, for a few lifetimes lol.

Amir Frost preciate that. Theres a ton that I was unaware of up until a few years ago (music wise, even movie wise, the way I experience/interpret the symbolism and allegories now vs years ago when unaware, is mind blowing, and some of that is credited to Maynard and his unorthodox, outside the box creative mind.).
