In Episode 3 of our four-part series with Maynard James Keenan, "The Art of Work," the Tool, Puscifer and A Perfect Circle frontman describes how his personal vision for a self-sufficient and sustainable lifestyle extends to the community he's fostering in Jerome, Arizona, and gives Revolver a tour of the gardens where he grows produce, his Merkin Vineyards Osteria, Puscifer general store and barbershop, and Four Eight Wineworks collective. - Hudba
I didn't realize he ran like the whole town lol
He's running a cult
@@JAMBI.. I'd join the Maynard cult.
@@rainbowrotcod he can make you change, tired moments into pleasures. He wouldn't want you any other way.
I want to be in his cult too!
You would expect anywhere MJK decides to plop his boots to eventually become his kingdom...the best part about him is it isn’t intentional...it’s just his wise, powerful and quiet way.
"we're not making metallica or slayer wines, we're making pink floyd wines" lol.. awesome.
Lol he went there and that was great
Slayer still rules, however.
I would be offended but I love maynard and all of his businesses lol
I love this guy
I love that
Maynard's ability to clearly see reality and still create magic is admirable
The beautiful thing? How do we know how real something is if we always have varying lenses?
Real is a choice that can be informed
by consistency across lenses. Science
harnesses the same theory: if an outcome
repeats, it must be more real than if not.
He cares about what he does.
I don’t think it’s possible to create magic without seeing reality. As Marco Pierre White said, you have a responsibility to make your dreams come true, otherwise you’re just a fantasist; a dreamer.
Its important to see not just your reality but the perspective of the reality of others as well.
Maynard just basically dominated a town lol
Progress always wins, just like gravity.

@@47ravenlord wtf are you on about
I agree! I keep coming to these videos to help get motivation for my art and living.
One of the many who sold themselves out to Lucifer
No, he just "sold his soul to make a record"
I’m watching Maynard explaining the art of work so that I can procrastinate on my own
This guy was such an inaccessible enigma for so many years.
TipOfTheDtoYa
He's promoting and trying to sell his wine. This was more of an infomercial than personal interview. The only reason his wine sells is simply because of who he is and if he wants it to continue to sell he needs to keep making music.
I know wine makers that have spent their lives making it and can't sell it all. I know many brewers that make great beer, but a great beer doesn't sell itself. He could sell nearly anything by celebrity alone, but he needs to promote it.
These wines sell out and it has nothing to do with quality or taste. People are collecting them or simply want to see what they're like. Then you have investors who buy cases to sell to collecltors. Once they sell out, the value to collectors raises the value.
He's sellimg celebrity in a bottle, because these wines are no better than average.
John H, You a wine expert?
TheRedverb
No, but I play one in my spare time.
@@liberty5565 Maynard doesn't settle for average.
@@mariacupo4937
If that were the true he would be dump many, many kegs of wine.
I think what people dont understand about artists, is that they need the process more than they need their talent and more than the world needs their talent. This is what makes them great and this is why we buy their 'inspired' work. Work.
Exactly.
I totally agree for a certain type of artist, Maynard is more of a realism artist, everything he writes about is for real in his life.. However some artists are dreamers and they use art to excape reality.
sounds like an ever present result throughout every sector of society! cheers.
His money from his art enables him to choose his work. And he can walk away and be creative when ever he needs to. Many people's artistic endeavors get smothered by the demands of their work. He's living the dream right now.
OMG you're so deep and complicated
I'm sold. Been a Tool fan a long while and I respect what he's doin here. Next motorcycle destination for me; gonna cruise down from Oregon!
It's a really neat small town that's built into a hillside. If you are making the trip all the way from oregon, swing by Sedona as well. Its just a stones throw away from Jerome. Really gorgeous area, you won't want to miss.
Joseph Burgess Seriously. I've hade the pleasure of being to both. Such an amazing place. I loved hiking in Sedona, there are absolutely no word to describe how beautiful it is. Got humbled on the side of a mountain there.
Fellow tool fan from Oregon as well!
U ever go?
Did you make it?
What I learned and loved from living in Italy and from the amazingly beautiful culture of the Italian people...
They know how to live slower. They drink more water, better coffee, better food, less fast food, junk food, sugary food, they walk more, spend more quality time with family and friends, they enjoy being outside in real nature (not conditioned nature) more, they have a stronger appreciation of culture and community. It's truly wonderful and something we all should adapt to our lives
Conditioned nature like air conditioning?
@BWM Sure it doesn't mean stopping to plant the flowers, weed around them, then smell them?
I work with Italians. There are lots of fast food franchises there. Fast cars. Fast lives. Some lead simple lives. Other lead fast lives.
We don't need to slow down. Some of us need to change our emphases.
@BWM Maybe we won't slow down culturally, but I believe more people are realizing the importance of going inwards, being mindful, being present. The change begins individually. The inner is a reflection of the outer, right? So go inwards and make the changes you want to see reflected in the world. Good luck to us all. 😊
I remember seeing him in San Antonio he was crying under the bus after the set I think he was tripping out of his mind back in 96 now hes a farmer priceless
Tripping has that affect on some.
Jair Robledo
I think that was around the time his mother passed away. Could be wrong tho, but it would make contextual sense
Priceless is so relative ~I’m not sure but I think your calling Maynard a fraud ?
Perhaps this is true but the only thing priceless to me, since we are crying out loud, is this mans voice on the Cd Anemia and the Lyrics he sings, the tone of gut wrenching desire... just to find out WHY .... WHY ..we feel .... so much.
Could care less about His wine but kinda adore when he Whines Out loud 😉
@@camirose3009 uhhh..... u good?
Why do you have to be so negative? People are people. Let them be whatever they are. Why do you feel the need to shame someone else because they are looking for their place under the sun?
He’s a very intelligent Man, Artist and Business Man.
"Rather than making Metallica or Slayer wines, we're actually making Pink Floyd wines. You're not going to get them in 15 seconds." Oh, amen.
Maynard is the most interesting man alive. Change my mind.
He's a woman.😁
Jerome has a special appeal of its own . The town square rest on top of a steep hill with rustic homes that overhang along the edge. You can feel the nostalgia of years long ago. I hope they preserve it by balancing what was with what is to come
I'm a native arizonan and I grow cannabis and totally understand the heat of this state. Challenge to keep anything alive. But if you do, it's magical.
Dude, WTH, I had no idea you were/are involved in soooo many cool things in LIFE!!!
I love your music, but THIS brings everything to whole level✊🏼Keep doing everything you do!!!
ROCK-ON☮️
I like how he is trying to help a small community by supporting local creators and economies. He doesn't try to drag other region's philosophy and people to Jerome but he instead encourages local craftspeople. I long for more people to do similar things in the future.
I'm a Saucier..i love cooking & listening to Tool..To me Life doesn't get better than that..
What about preparing tools and listening to cooking
Pink floyd wines lol such an amazing way to describe it.
Kai Comer metallica wine sounds like mad dog 20-20. Quick strong buzz with a horrible hangover and a taste like doubt and concert sweat .
Along with horrible neck pain lol
I think by alluding to Pink Floyd he means to produce vintage wine just like Pink Floyd its classic, old, vintage. Must be so.
The more I listen to this guy, the more I like him. I don't care for his music, but as a person, he's intriguing.
Dude is a legend and a half...viva la Puscifer!

I could listen to his voice all day.

Just visited Jerome the other day. Went into the cellar and store. Awesome places. Talked with a lady that was working at the cellar. We talked about ju jitsu cause she trains at Mr. Keenan’s facility. Awesome people, great energy and a lot of depth.
Music & love for the nature makes Maynard a wise Human being. Hello from one of your fans in Colombia. Un abrazo y gracias por compartir.
Kinda puts the twenty-nine-year waiting period for the new Tool album into perspective.
Maynard expressions on life are so insightful. Keep up the good work brother. You are a great artist!
2:32 love love love how casually he throws shade there
Tool and Perfect Circle is among the greatest musical acts of all time. Im lucky to have grown up with them at my side. Cheers to respect
I feel precisely the same
A spectacular hard working human being MJK 🤚🏼 want to say thanks man
It feels a little odd seeing how he transformed a town. I'm sure he definitely improved the local economy, and if there are only 500 people living in Jerome, he must employ like a quarter of those people. I wonder if the locals love it or hate it. Anyone involved in a business probably loves him for attracting visitors.
skillzorz101 Jerome is a tiny town, I lived at the bottom of the hill in a town called Clarkdale. The town is built on an old mine. It's a great place
@hudson I do believe selfish Tool fans would try. But real Tool fans would not because we understand it's not our place to impede on his privacy and his life.
Why would they hate it? Hard to think of a reason.
anyone can affect and help to completely transform their communities.
and mjk wants to create a network, a collective, of like-minded (driven) creatives. sustainability, simplicity, moving forward. seems jerome's already on its way. the entire point of this "work" ...um, "series" ...and his "blood into wine" documentary for that matter ...is meant to inspire people to bring out the flavor or their own time and space, set and setting. if you happen to be from the area, and are interested in adding to the nature, nurture, and overall character of the scene, then hit him up. if he were trying all this in new england, you better believe i'd angle myself to help the caduceus cause directly. don't half-ass it. the entire point of it is to take advantage of an opportunity to make "opportunity" a well-spring for inspiration, expression, and creativity.
soth1 sol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
"the entire point" is to make $
This is a commercial, and an investment. He's doing what all artists do, they create a rich tapestry to push a product. The breathtaking ultra perfect godlike talented work doesn't sell, unless it has some story behind it. Meanwhile, the inkblot sells billions because it has some half witted bs story behind it. Don't get me wrong, Maynard is incredible. But he's still just selling a product. He doesn't need struggle, and diversity for his artistic expression, that can be outsourced to writers that will sell him masterpieces for a dime. In reality, he's in his 50s, and that beautiful voice won't last forever. He's diversifying his portfolio of investments.
I like Maynard even more now. What a talented smart unique man. I'm
Every Artist there is building an amazing foundation of a respective legacy. Beautiful in every way imaginable.
I could listen to Maynard say the letter A for seven hours and not get bored for a single second. Lol, idk why his voice captivates me so much, it just does

Maynard is awesome. Love how he keeps everything local.
I’ve only watched this series over four times now. Completely fascinated and captivated by the lifestyle in Jerome and of Maynards work ethic.
Well, I'm sold.
All Maynards work is perfection
Every single plate of food in this episode looks *unbelievable!*

This really cool! I knew Maynard was living somewhere in Az, and had some kind of winery, but I didn't realize he was so organized in this manner, very impressive... The man has adopted a town and brought it some life and identity...
What a great person talented in so many ways it's indescribable. I've been listening to his music since I was 5 and still till this day believe he has one of the most impressive mindsets.
Oooooh shit! Spiral out! Keep going!
Its a hideaway peaceful slice of culture done A La Maynard. He has genuine passion for it, I like it.
Man is intelligent and real and works his vineyard much respect!
Seeing the person in a short documentary like this make the music all that better. He never sold out and works his butt off even though he doesnt need to. I think i will listen to Grand Canyon.
Truely an amazing man. Inspires you to see the deeper aspect of life, human connection and the connection on the different levels of our surroundings.

Jerome is an awesome and quirky town. Also super close to Sedona. Incredibly beautiful there.
*Maynardsville* when can I move in.
Could you imagine being handed a basil leaf, from Maynard's hand, from Maynard's garden, from Maynard's property.... And then eating it as he watches you and describes the flavor? I know he hates for someone to idolize another, but I can't imagine not, in his case. I especially love how humble he is, for such a legendary, artistic, intellectual, musically creative, dangerously genius individual he is.
I feel like Maynard is the real life Tyler Durden
If Tyler Durden was a hipster leftist fucktard whose music gets shittier and shittier because it is just being used to fund his wine making bullshittery the comparison would be fitting.
