  • Today, we're taking apart the module of a Casio Rangeman GW-9400 and doing some work inside! Namely we are changing the color of the light of the watch using color gels, and inverting the screen to a negative display.
    If you wish to see more video on taking apart a Rangeman, check out my other video here: • TRSCP Works on a Range...

    Great Video sir...thank you for documenting this! QQ, If my goal is to just replace the polarised film to negative (black), would I still need to disconnect the white housing around the screen, or could I just do it without messing with that? I hope that makes sense...Thanks in advance for your help

      Hello. Thank you! I would personally separate the screen so you can also wipe it down if some adhesive sticks behind. That way you don't run the risk of getting liquid or lint or anything inside the module. You can certainly try leaving everything in to save some steps but then you need to be a bit more careful. Hope this helps!

      @@TRSCP I do really like the Kobe Fire band and bezel set but for that model they want nearly $200 just for the band and bezel on ebay so I bought the red GW-9400RDJ-4JF JAPAN model bezel with carbon fiber bands for $120 instead. All carbon fiber band models are alot higher than that from casio or pacparts. I won my 9400 on ebay brand new in an auction for $120 so I have $240 in the watch so far which is not bad IMO. Also have the brand new black bezel and band set that came on the watch encase I ever want to change it back but I love the red bezel/ carbon fiber bands.

    • @TRSCP
      @TRSCP  Před 6 lety

      +Sean Hui hey Sean! Could be any number of things, honestly. If it beeps when you fully assemble back in the case, you might have not seated the ribbons that connect the screen to the circuit board properly? Or, when fully assembled, and back in the case, you might have to do an AC reset and let it get some light. I guess I would have to see it to fully know, but your best bet is to take it apart and go over it again to make sure everything is in correctly! Best of luck, and let me know if you have any other questions!

    Hey man, very fine work doesn't seem like a good enough compliment. Well done.
    I'm curious how you would separate the solar panel from the glass. I have replacement glass, but not the panel. I ruined one taking the glass out, before watching your video. Now that I've seen it, I am ready to try my luck on a second one. I have it stripped down and will be able to use a press at work tomorrow. Once the glass and solar panel is out, I'll be stalled again unless you have some words of wisdom.
    Once it is apart, are there any tricks to reattach the panel to glass?
    Thanks

    • @TRSCP
      @TRSCP  Před 3 lety

      Good luck with that work! The solar panel and the crystal are held with a teeny bit of adhesive, and the surface LOVES to attract dust, so be prepared for that! Haha. Hopefully you can make that all go smoothly! Thanks for watching!

      @chall514 Před 3 lety

      @@TRSCP Thanks again.
      When I procured the replacement glass, a couple of years ago, I actually bought a bunch of those little adhesive pieces. I didn't know enough to get the solar panels. I've reached out to Pacparts, but am guessing they won't be able to supply any. So my two watch project is down to a possible one.
      This whole thing started with me buying two (a black and a green) and swapping the modules to put the negative display on the black. I got that done and things were fine. Both my buddy (who I gave the black one to) and I scratched the glass badly. I thought I would be able to go at replacing the glass, but pressing it out was too much for the novice in me. I'm better educated and prepared now.

    Hi. I'm trying to change the face / cristal on a GW6900 due to hard scratches on it. Any suggestion on how to dissasembly the cristal from the case and assemble them together again?

    • @TRSCP
      @TRSCP  Před 4 lety +1

      Hello! If I'm recalling, you'll basically need to pull out as much as you can from the back (module, plastic insert) and take the bezel off. Then you should be able to fit something inside the case roughly filling as much space as you can to push the crystal and solar panel layer out the front. I usually use a watch press (usually meant for snapping casebacks on) and light pressure, some taps with a hammer. It's tricky and very easy to damage either the crystal or the solar panel. That solar panel is not an easily sourced part. Hopefully this helps, and know that there are risks involved doing this work. Good luck!

    Yeah, I'm never going to get that assembled again, only ever spotted 3 of those microscopically tiny springs when I took my rangeman apart and even the two LEDs are too small for me to manage. Getting a blade under the polarization film defeated me too. I'm usually not a "butterfingers" kinda guy, but even with a magnifying glass this is too tiny for me. The tiny springs feeds power to the lighting, so since I can't get the LEDs to line up and lost one of the springs, I guess I could assemble the watch without the LEDs and tiny springs, but a negative display rangeman without light seems pointless.
    I admire your skills, but I wish I'd never tried it on my watch. I'll probably end up buying a positive display rangeman and just move the module over instead to get a green, positive display rangeman with a yellow eye and a bag full of spare parts.

      Have you taken it apart? Not exactly sure how that'd just stop working out of nowhere... is the battery charge low?

      TRSCP the battery is fully charged I took it apart to do a a.c. reset advised by another youtuber after I explained the issue to him and it didn't work that's the only time the back has been off

      Huh, weird. Yeah I guess I can't say what it is or isn't without actually opening it up and looking around.

      Which model is $50 more? Unless you're thinking of a JDM model? In which case, it also has a carbon fiber band.

      I think there's a little more to it than that. I want to say they're tinted as well, and the buttons are black? I am trying to recall all the changes but those are the main ones.

    i think that you should buy a rangeman with the negative display already....

    • @TRSCP
      @TRSCP  Před 5 lety +1

      That is an option, but then the resin and dial accents would be a different color. Of course you could buy two watches and swap, but then you have to spend way more money.
