How waste gate turbocharger works - Must watch.

  • Hi guys,
    This video explains about the working of a waste gate turbo charger. The function of the waste gate valve and when it gets opened up is explained here.
    As you all know the turbocharger is used to increase the power output and reduce emission level and to improve the efficiency of a diesel engine. Waster gate turbocharger consists of a turbine which takes the hot pressure exhaust gas and turns this energy to power a compressor which compresses the atmospheric air and supplied to the inlet manifold. So as you know air is one of the major components which causes ignition in diesel engine. By this process we are providing more air into the combustion chamber there by the engine becomes capable of burning more fuel or the percentage of incomplete combustion can be greatly reduced thus increasing efficiency.
    Now let’s see when the waste gate valve comes into picture.
    Here you can see that the compressed air creates a higher pressure and if this pressure exceeds above the recommended level this can create excessive load on the engine. So to avoid this waste gate valve is used.
    How a waste gate valve works?
    Waste gate valve is installed in the exhaust circuit before the turbine. If the compressed air pressure exceeds the recommended pressure at the compressor outlet port. This will activate the swing valve control there by opening up the waste gate valve as explained in the video and the excessive pressure is released to the atmosphere to avoid the chance of over loading the engine.

    Does Watergate affect the car not to start?

    • @TechTrixInfo
      @TechTrixInfo  Před 3 dny

      Hi, The wastegate itself usually won’t stop your car from starting. Its main job is to control the turbocharger’s boost pressure. If there’s a problem with the wastegate, it might affect performance or power while driving, but starting issues are more often linked to things like the battery or starter motor. However, if the wastegate is stuck or not working properly, it could cause engine performance issues. It’s a good idea to check all related parts to find out why your car isn’t starting.

    I just want to tell you that the opposite of a naturally aspirated engine is just a forced induction engine. A diesel engine is just specifying the type of fuel: diesel. However, diesel engines do react very well to being turbocharged.

    • @Ty-ci3gb
      @Ty-ci3gb Před 9 lety +1

      FLYING PANDAS A diesel runs better with a turbo because a diesel works off of compression ignition, not a spark plug. With that being said, the more compressed the air is going into the engine, the more explosive it is; thus more power! Hence the reason why almost all diesels today come standard with a turbocharger. and also, a diesel is much more than just the fuel running through it. Diesels are built to withstand tens and thousands of pounds of pressure. If you were to run a diesel fuel system on a gasoline engine successfully, that gasoline engine would blow apart.

    Fantastic video! I very much wanted to know how exactly that waste gate is actuated and you showed it perfectly! Now is there a design (most probably with large turbos) in which there is a problem with turbo lag in the low RPMs and that wastegate (or maybe another valve) opens when there is sufficient amount of air flow to spin the turbine and before that point all the exhaust gases go directly into the atmosphere (like in a N/A engine)? Is there such a thing? If so, there will probably be a need for another air intake passage - directly form the atmosphere (for the low RPMs when the turbo does not operate). What do you think?

    • @risingphoenix7670

      ERS that is energy recovery system helps in reducing the turbolag to a great extent.its one component called MGU-H helps in doing so

      @JBurris Před 8 lety +1

      +7150285 I know this is a year old but good point. Although not all turbo applications require inter-coolers. I've seen a twin turbo BMW where the two turbines where mounted all the way near the rear of the vehicle at the muffler and the intake tubes were routed all the way back up to the engine. I guess the length of the pipes somehow eliminated the need for an intercooler, but there's no way I'd really want to run one without it. I think you're risking too many things by running high intake temps, especially with any decent amount of boost.

    How a motorcycle engine works. Deep explanation please.
    And supercharger vs turbocharger. Please

    • @JBurris
      @JBurris Před 8 lety +1

      +Abhinav Garg No replies in a year, damn. Well, let me take a stab at this.
      Motorcycle engines are no different from any other engine. They are usually naturally aspirated (not force induction, e.g. turbocharger / supercharger) and only rely on gases being "sucked" into the engine. The main difference is they usually on have two cylinders and come in smaller configurations of their I4, V6 and V8 counterparts.
      A turbo charger, as you know from this video and any other studying, is a turbine that is driven by the exhaust or "waste" of your engine. In a regular car, the exhaust simply goes out the muffler and is unused. In a turbo application, the gases are routed through the turbine like the video shows and that turbine is connected to the intake side turbine which forces air (i.e. "force induction") and makes your engine consume more air. Once you add a little more fuel to accommodate that influx in air, you get more power. The intake side of the turbine has an air cleaner which filters the air before it passes through the turbine, then that air is usually fed into an inter-cooler which lowers the intake temps down a bit so you don't run the risk of detonation, or a scenario where the intake air is already so hot that the moment it is combine with fuel it will ignite before it has a chance to be compressed by the piston. You want to cool the air down as it is coming to, then feed it into the motor to complete the original combustion process.
      A supercharger on the other hand works very similar to a turbocharger, but the method in which a "turbine" is driven varies. Some superchargers sit directly on top of the intake manifold. The supercharger usually has a shaft coming out of the front with a pulley. You route a belt over the pulley, much like the alternator or A/C condenser and the supercharger spins with all the other accessories. Some superchargers look and work almost like a turbo charger, but instead of being driven by exhaust gases, they also have a pulley and a belt. Since the supercharger is already spinning, and depending on the supercharger, already making a decent amount of boost at lower RPMs, S/C's can virtually eliminate turbo lag.
      There are many schools of thought on this, but usually you have a trade off. Turbo chargers are really great for torque, the feeling of being pushed into your seat when accelerating. The downside of a turbo is the lag. Superchargers are really great at producing power with almost no lag, but for the most part don't put out the same amount of power as a turbo can.
      But it depends on various factors like model, vehicle, tune etc.

    how turbocharged engine works at low rpm say at 2000 rpm , turbo turns on at this low speed , or exhaust gases just passes without rotating turbine blade

    • @smallbabytoenipples
      @smallbabytoenipples Před 9 lety

      Bruh.. what the fuck are you talking about?

    • @JBurris
      @JBurris Před 8 lety +1

      +dhairysheel jadhav The turbine begins to turn as soon as the engine starts the combustion process. At lower engine RPMs, the exhaust gases which is used to drive the turbine are lower; thus resulting in lower turbine speeds. At 2000 rpms, which is quite a bit above idle, the turbine is spinning slower and therefore, creating less boost. This phenomenon is what is referred to in the automotive community as "turbo lag". That is the time it takes to spin the turbo up to a high enough speed to produce sufficient boost. For that first second or two, a turbo car has a bit of a lag where you are revving the engine high enough to get exhaust gases flowing through the turbine to achieve boost.
      The exhaust gas will not "bypass" the turbine unless the boost pressure in the intake system reaches a high enough point to open the wastegate.
