Best crawler "foam" I've ever used isn't even a foam!

  • I've seen this one doing the rounds on Facebook for a while and someone convinced me to try them. I was very skeptical at the start but these hair bun ring donut things make the best crawler foams I've ever used.
I've crawled, bashed and trailled with them and they have got wet and stood up to a lot of (deliberate) abuse that would normally kill anything made of open cell foam. They outperform my Pro-Line and Club5 foams in both the trucks I put them in. They are amazing for heavier trucks as well as my (fairly) light hardcore crawler. They get better as you use them as they expand and really fill the tyre without getting soft or losing any of the properties they had at the start.
If you want a soft tyre insert for huge traction patches that has amazing side-hill performance then consider getting your own. Mine were purchased from here (non-affiliate): www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bun-Mesh-H...

Glad you liked my idea.I do like running in water so had already experimented with star cut EPP foams. These were too dense so when I saw one of these donuts in a pound shop I had a light builb moment. I use 100mm donuts in my Rowdy 1.9's and 110mm one in my Wraith running 2.2 HPI Rock Grabbers. The smaller ones are available form B & M Bargains for £1 each and the larger sizes from Poundstretcher for the same amount. After coming up with the idea someone pointed out that there is a commercially available product that use different sizes of EPP inner ring to allow tuning for heavier trucks www.ottsix.com/halo-webwrap-foam?fbclid=IwAR1BIFYc4IOqpPEwwfK8lgVknkCNlieLCtT_VTMcUQMa8EkQuIP9-_qGpxw By sheer co-incidence that's what I used on my Wraith at first as I couldn't find the larger size. Here's it running with that set up czcams.com/video/ab8dtHDTyso/video.html

@@JustScalin I'm just gald others have tried and liked them. I was fed up with stock foams degrading due to water damage so figured it was worth a shot. Being spun plastic they should be impervious. I wonder if the reason why they work so good is that they're round. Like round on the sides whereas conventional phones are flat on the sides. One of my tuning secrets is getting the profile of the foam to match the inner profile of the tire. I literally reshape the foam insert.
