    Thanks for the video, I have ordered a set of the dual stage for my gen 8 axe and for the scx10. I do more trailing than rock crawling I think they will do well. I seem to find myself in alot of side hill /off camber situations. Excited to see how much better they perform over a soft foam

    Two stage hands down. I just ordered a TRX-4 Sport Unassembled kit(my 2nd TRX-4, first was an rtr), along with the kit I ordered the Two Stage, they work freaking great in the stock Traxxas Canyon Trails. Way better than the stock foams.

    I just fitted the dual stage as a one peice unit..no need to separate..i got the 4.75 soft outer and a pair of medium outers for the front of my rig which generally runs a 5200mah battery so plenty of weight up front.
    To be honest they both feel about the same once in the tyre.I put them in my 1.9 Hyraxes and they are a snug fit,so i think the softer compound actually gets a little squeezed flat once fitted and so becomes not so soft of a ride after all..just my input.Maybe i need to go down a size on my foams

    I think you're comparing apples to oranges. Both have very specific uses. As you mentioned a single stage is great for handling on a sct, buggies, and the like. The dual stage wonderfully dandy for trail queens, nuthin better. Hit the steep vert and big off camber, soft all around and good suspension will keep you there.

    Oot of all of that, I've only used the Pitbull Rock Beasts...
    And was in LOVE with them!!
    I'm FORCED to be cheap. By now you're beginning to understand why.
    When I'm ABLE to get aftermarket Foams... I've only bought CI Dual Stage Foams. I've been nothing but happy with them.
    Now, Wheels and Tires, IMHO, are more often than not a more personal choice. Especially Rims.
    I can't think of a single reason why I would want Single Stage, HARD closed Cell Foams....
    For anything that *I would use them for.*
    MAYBE a high speed Basher, where Tire integrity is Life.
    They're popular, so obviously a lot of people find value in them.
    I've always looked at Foams in general, as like Tire Pressure adjustments on 1:1 Rigs. When I Crawled for real, 8-15psi was my entire tuning range...
    A soft, single Foam (cheap) would be my 8psi. Impractical for most Trailing.
    Firmer single stage Foam (Pitbull, Hyrax) is about 11-12psi.
    The CI Dual Stage Foams (firm inner, soft outer) is in the 13-19psi range, depending on WHICH Outers you use.
    The CI Single Stage DENSE Foams - the FULL 35-40psi!!
    The ONLY advantage I see is - longer Runtimes.
    Disclosure - I've obviously not bought ANYTHING new in over 4 years.... So I am a bit ignorant of the latest products.
    But in my own actual experience, that's how I see it.
    I really look forward to your results!

      Those are all amazing points. And that’s what the goal of the side to side tests will be.
      I can tell you that the single cell are more predictable and can fill out the tread more square. Two Stage, the outer foam may eventually break down or rot. But, we will See.
      I’m TRYING to stay unbiased, but I can’t. I really want the two-stage to be the winner. But I may be surprised.

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks Před 5 lety +1

      I would definitely be surprised too!! I do realize that the single stage Foam offers stability and longevity...
      I just can't understand how it would actually WORK.
      Unless you've got an exceptionally heavy Rig, it's not going to compress.....
      The Test will be very exciting and informative!! 👍👍

    • @scalefreakgaming
      @scalefreakgaming  Před 5 lety +2

      Remember, the single stage are a touch smaller, so the tire itself feels like it’s “aired down”
      I ran the Crawler Innovations Closed Cell for years and they handled amazing. But this will be a good head to head

    You mentioned it briefly about the single stage foam not moving side to side on the rim, but the dual stage can do that. I've recently mounted some dual stage foams into flat irons on similar rims and I'm getting a lot of foam movement inside the tyre. How would you suggest resolving this?

  • @RCOffRoad76
    @RCOffRoad76 Před 4 lety

    Ah this is what I don't like about the 2 stage foams, they've made my rc4wd tires look a lot thinner, like the extra height and the way they work just wish I could have my wide looking tire back lol

    Another method to install foams; turn the tire inside out, place the tire over the foams, stretch the tire (right side out) over the foams, fine tune as needed.

      Shortly after this video, my son asked that we don't make our hikes about making video's or driving the trucks every time. He wasn't enjoying it, so we packed up all the R/C and called it quits with the R/C content.
      It's supposed to be about the family for us, and as soon as one of the family doesn't want to do it any more, we put it away.
      To answer the question in the video. The Dual Stage were the winners. They did a better job at being an 'air down' tire and giving more traction.

      That’s actually a good question. We didn’t end up doing the video because the kid stopped wanting to go to the trails with the camera’s.
      My preference...two stag. But, I feel like after a couple years of the foams breaking down, the single stage would hold up better. My vote, two stage
