    Hey Pete, deep tine + plus sand is a great way to improve drainage with little disruption to the surface, but I would caution against using it to replace traditional core aeration in clay. We’ve seen it actually increase compaction on some soccer fields we manage. switched to 1/2” hollow tines in our toro and then top dress with 70/30 and drag it in with our g2 to get rid of the cores. Of course, all dirt is different so solid tines might be fine for your area. Thanks for sharing as always

      Yes sir! Understood. This one has solid tines because it came with it LOL. I am sure the make core tines for it and if they do i will for sure get some

    Nice! I do the same thing with a manure fork in tough spots on the yard...but only a small area as you can guess it's hard work! That's a nice piece of machinery right there!

    Funny every time someone has mentioned wearing spiked shoes to walk around and aerate people always said that's bad to do because your compressing the dirt. Yet here we are with a 12in tine.

    I can hardly tell anything happen to the lawn. It does a wonderful job. By the way, that kbg lawn looks stellar. Question, PRG or KBJ which is prettier?

      I think the blue is prettier. I was amazed at how little “damage” this done to the turf.

    That’s wild how it lifts the ground underneath! Watching it press down and the action of it lifting back up at an angle looks like it fluffs up the soil.

      If that were the case I highly doubt thousands of golf courses and athletic fields all over the world do this exact thing.

      This type of machine lifts up the soil and fractures it as the tine comes up. You can see if lifting the whole soil profile is the slow motion shots. Wiedenmann makes some deep tine machines very similar to this one

    Pete, in your estimation, would you say that KBG is more heat/drought tolerant than ryegrass? Would like to use a turf that can be mowed lower than TTTF but being in the OKC area I’m not sure if I can get away with it.

      good question i cant speak for all cultivars of KBG and Rye but the ones I use I think the blue is more heat tolerant for sure and WAY less disease prone

    Only 1 problem for us Texas lawn freaks. The spikes go to deep for us. Our sprinkler pipes are only 6-8” deep. So we would have lots of leaks for sure. It looks awesome for sure.

      @@GCITurf that may be worth checking into. The soil here is so dang hard though I think it would work but core is probably better. We have a lot of clay here.

    160 stands for the working with in centimeters. It's a Dutch machine.

    Pete, I’m in Anderson SC and a customer of STEC. Glad to see you working with them. Any chance of the Bluegrass making it in Anderson? With irrigation?

      STEC is a great group of folks! If I were you I’d buy the smallest bag of blue heat and test it in a area for one year before you do anything drastic

      Ive had several folks down your way have great luck with it. I would recomend you buy that small bag and do a test area year one and see how well it performs.

    Im confused i was told that adding sand to clay would make the compaction worse, is this true? I looking forward this fall to adding some blue heat to my carolina yard as well!

    Pete the tines are 12 or 8 inches do they have smaller times as not to damage the water lines for your sprinkler system

      You can adjust the depth down to 2” if you want. I didn’t have the tool with me to adjust that day

    Pete!! Wow is that KBG beautiful! When did it seed out? I’ve been trying to keep mine cut short but it seems like it’ll seed out even when it’s short. Not sure what I need to do to my KBG to get it half has good as yours.

      Mine seeded out 2 weeks before this video. It’s natural and healthy for it to do so. I’m trying to figure out why folks want to stop a natural process that turf does.

    At first sight, that doesn't look to be a benefit over a core plug Aerator. Seems like without removing a Core, it's just compacting everything around it🤷‍♂️

      Long tines are breaking through hardpan below creating cracks and fissures in soil which actually helps alleviate compaction
