    I worked at one of Canada's busiest airports in the late 80's and 90's. We only used granulated urea to salt taxiways and the runways during the winter. Incredible!! Would melt snow for days if it was just a dusting but would of course cut through ice leaving the runways dry and clear. The best part, the green grass near the areas we dropped the urea were so healthy, green, and lush in the spring.

      correct, even in europe. 25kg (55 lbs) of urea consisting 46% N costs 20 US dollars. So to get 15% solution of N you pay around 0,25 dollar per litre, so roughly 1 US dollar per gallon. In this video 2,5 gallons 15% nitrogen DEF costs 10 dollars. So you get 4 dollars per gallon. So it is here 3,5-4 times cheaper just to mix it yourself.

    Should this be followed up with a something like a 0-0-26 foliar phosphate fertilizer to keep things more balanced? I’ve been spraying DEF and iron together every week with great results.
    15ounces def per gallon with 8 ounces of chelated iron.
    I have a common Bermuda lawn.

    Now I wonder how a def system identifies def or not. What other liquid could be put in place and not have an effect on the vehicle? Is there a way to trick the truck, and not cause damage? Since it’s just urea and water?

    I prefer calcium nitrate. 185 grams will make 50 gallons of nutrient solution. With the added benefit of the calcium on top of the nitrogen.

    • @shoudoun1234
      @shoudoun1234 Před 3 měsíci +3

      The number is the percentage 15% nitrogen vs 46% nitrogen. It's just the concentration of nitrogen in the product. There is only a certain amount of nitrogen you want to put on your lawn per 1000sqft. So with the 46-0-0 you would use less product compared to the 15-0-0 to get the desired amount of nitrogen down on your lawn.

    As a farmer I am a little taken back by this video. Come on man seriously. All these people are going to be going out and improperly using DEF. Buy a bag of granular and spread if you must. What you are not telling everyone is the granular will stay there. Stay in the soil for the uptake of the grass. You spray the def on your lawn and get a heavy rain and bam it leaches lower into the soil then the roots can use or runs off into the storm water system. Not only is your idea bad for the pocket book but not a great environment standpoint. Just my 2 cents here but kind of annoyed. Why not tell everyone to spread waste oil on their lawns? Yes they will grow like crazy but people know better for the environment

    • @soyoucametosee7860
      @soyoucametosee7860 Před 3 měsíci +7

      Yeah. If you pay attention, he tells you that DEF is not a good choice.
      He is also pointing out that your DEF mandated equipment is producing run off.
      DEF is one of those stupid ideas that environmentalists came up with. It just shifts the focus.

    • @lordgarth1
      @lordgarth1 Před 2 měsíci +4

      People already use water soluble urea when they want some immediate release nitrogen. This is just a cheaper source. No difference and not improperly using anything.

    • @Danomite99
      @Danomite99 Před 2 měsíci +1

      I’m not sure why you are concerned here. Nitrogen is nitrogen.
      Liquid fertilizer applications are the preferred choice for golf courses and sports fields.
      Def fluid has 2 ingredients 32.5% nitrogen, and water.
      Whether you buy a granular fertilizer and mix it, or buy this pre-mixed, it’s the same concept.
      How you apply liquids is the only real concern.
      -when applied correctly, (spoon fed application every 2 weeks) it should be mixed with a surfactant.
      This allows the grass plant to uptake the nitrogen via a foliage process.
      This is not a spray and soak application.

    Your urine at 1 to 7 ratio is equally good and free. Since tap water contains beneficial minerals you don't need deionized water. That was to prevent mineral build up in the mechanical system.
