    I kind of got the impression (just from this video) that the aliens tried to put her in a happy memory, but since she was outcasted, the only happy memories she had were from before Maude died. But she was so overcome by grief that Brynn knew it was fake and so the illusion couldn't last.
    When the aliens captured her and went through her memories, they were trying to find out why they couldn't keep Brynn under like the others. But by doing that, they allowed Brynn to come to terms and move on from her grief. So she became happier after the aliens arrived, and they realized that she was happier awake and content in an alien takeover than if they were defeated and life turned back to normal. The aliens understood she would never fight to regain something that made her so unhappy when she could live freely in this new reality.

      Wrong ,but right.
      The aliens saw humans being self destructive. And intervened.
      Bri had done got over self destructive tendencies and evolved to fighting and killing ONLY as a self defense mechanism. Like the aliens.
      The rest of her town was naturally hostile
      She was a 200 percent true person.
      She had done killed. And that changed her. She would only do it for self defense purpose.
      She did it in self defense and still felt regret.
      What more is there to teach such a species?
      She was a human pocahantas( I know I am misspelling. )but more violent to aliens.
      It was like if humans saw an island of monkeys with guns, about to go nuclear.
      And only one of them was smart enough in all mental aspects to be considered an equal.

      @redfishbluefish5151 Yea that makes most sense.
      I wonder how many of the aliens are controlled by parasites and how many, like Brynn, chose to live with them by free will.
      I guess all those we've seen, with the crooked and stiff movements, are being controlled.
      Pretty good storytelling and a perfect example of what happens when you cast someone out and continue to discriminate them. Eventually they won't see themselves as a part of your society anymore and happily sell you for anything slightly less bad.

      I disagree and felt the lack of dialogue was a distraction and in no way enhanced the film. Movies like “Hush” and “A Quiet Place” earned their use of no dialogue by setting up a world in which it made sense that the characters wouldn’t talk. This however felt like a filmmaker using a gimmick and a schtick to make their film unique. There are some good ideas here, but overall the film didn’t work for me.

    I kinda thought the little bulbs with tentacles were the true aliens. The possessed humans and the aliens moved like they were disjointed and cracked constantly. It actually wasn’t just the humans that were possessed, the big spider alien moved all clumsy because it was no different than the mailman thrashing on the bus.
    So the bulb shows the possessed what they want to see while they take control and she was a rarity because no matter what she saw, she couldn’t accept forgiveness to herself.
    The possessed aliens in the ship realize they cannot take control of her and yet they did not fear her. They realized she can be this sort of keystone of all humanities culture. They still wanna learn the earth world, and that’s why they hum the song. Purely out of interest.

It is kind of a poetic movie as all throughout we see the main character struggling with guilt for murdering her best friend and the townspeople all shunned her for this. After seeing her memories through probing, the aliens decided that like them, she is an alien in her town and thus decided to save her.

    My mom pointed out that in the hulu description of the movie, they say that Brynn is someone that has been “alienated” by the people in her town. So we were thinking that the aliens somehow sympathized with her and the alienation she felt from other humans. Maybe that’s why they let her have alien friends at the end?
    Humans treat them bad just like her. Yet she exists amongst them. And they also probably wanted to study her because of her resilience and ability to kill multiple of them.

  • @elirodrigues8139
    @elirodrigues8139 Před 7 měsíci +696

    I think the aliens were a really great metaphor for Brynn's grief and guilt over what happened to Maude. It is slowly but surely invading her life, tearing it apart piece by piece (the home invasion part). She cant escape it wherever she goes (the bus scene). No one wants to help her deal with the issue (police station scene) because everyone hates her. Everytime she catches someone's glance, she can see it in their eyes or hear it from their throat, as in the countless ugly and terrible things the townfolk have no doubt said about her or to her (the bodysnatchers). These feelings have even gotten so bad that it has caused her to think about or actually attempt suicide (the doppleganger). Then, when she is finally "captured" and her memories catch up to her (the abduction scene) she is forced to confront what happened head on. In the end, she in some shape or form forgives herself (her touching her younger self's hand) and because of that she is able to partially move on. The grief and the guilt are still their (the ufos in the sky during the last scene) and some people will probably never forgive her (everyone is still bodysnatched), but she has forgiven herself enough to build herself a world where she can be happy. Although judging by how dreamy and blissful the last scene was, im guessing its a superficial happiness at best.

    Like others here Im curious as to what the aliens wanted in the first place. The infected humans still go about their day normally and interestingly enough, they interact with and almost coddle her. Dancing with and waving at her. I also noticed that the aliens she fought with didnt always outright "attack" her but struck a pose almost as a greeting or sitting down, waiting and doing nothing to show that they mean no harm, some even trying to talk to her directly with their croaking. It isnt until she runs away or hides they try to incapacitate her. Even though she killed multiple of them they only sought to infect her, not outright harm her. I dont think they wanted to kill anyone as when infected, the humans are in a dream like state filled with happiness, the parasite possibly dispelling what pains them the most fulfilling their desire. But when they tried to give her back maude, she rejected it. Even though she killed her and it pained her the most, she would rather live in the real world, with maude dead, so they let her go, not knowing what else to do with her. Great film, a very fun watch. Most alien movies hide their aliens in the dark and in their ships but this was a refreshing change. Takes skill to make an alien invasion movie where you dont see the aliens killing or experimenting on anyone into a thriller.

    It looked like the aliens were trying to create a kind of blissful society via the aliens-in-throat hallucinations. However, Brynn refused to go under the influence (hence "no one will save you") and instead through the journey saves herself by going through the past events and realizing if given the chance she would have stopped her self. She also sees the grief in her writing those letters. The events allowed her to step outside herself and look at her journey (from childhood, to trauma, to grief). Brynn saves herself by understanding herself and forgiving herself and she can only do that by facing the events from the past with new/wiser eyes. Being that Brynn heals herself and is now more positive/vibrant, she didn't need to be overtaken by the aliens. Meanwhile, most of the townspeople didn't seem like happy people. Sure, Brynn did something horrible, but you have to be a pretty bitter person to feel you have to constantly "shun" or remind someone of the worst day of their life. So it seems like ironically they needed the alien cleanse more than Brynn herself.

      @tikateeqa4825 I couldn't agree more! Or videos where the reviewer is SO SOLD on their own interpretation that they are completely unwilling to see the story, or even one minor part of the story any other way.
      I remember getting into a long back and forth about genetics, and mixed race kids sometimes looking FAR MORE like one parent than the other (something I know intimately about).
      ANYWAY it seemed like we went back and forth for MONTHS about whether or not if the Protagonist Father character "PAUL" could actually be the biological father of the Protagonist Son character "Travis" in the film "It Comes At Night". There was no reason AT ALL for the reviewer to even get side tracked about this minor detail, but the FILM had clearly established that Paul and Travis were TRUE biological Father/Son by showing that it was an a marriage between a Caucasian man and an African American Female, and even showed pictures of them prior to marriage, wedding photos, and the eventual pregnancy and the happy family all together with their newborn son photos.
      But as far as was concerned it was IMPOSSIBLE, (because different skin tones and features), and not only was he completely wrong-- I couldn't even figure out HOW it became part of the review at all. "Mixed babies have been a thing for a LONG time... since way before I was born.... and I'm in my early 30s.... but WHAT the heck he was throwing out theories on THAT issue of ALL THINGS in that movie that are far more interesting to discuss is BEYOND me.
      I eventually gave him a few more shots with other movies, but found him to be far to rigid to even listen to anymore... he always found some strange hill to die on because EVERYTHING had to have some "blow your mind" se ret theory, and he quickly became tedious.
      I'm not saying you have to completely agree with the creator's every point to enjoy their videos, but at least add some personality, humor, and IF POSSIBLE; some talent in film, knowledge and/or film trivia (at LEAST), and you're far more likely to have an appreciative audience, ya know?
      If I get suckered into clicking on a video about a film with an awkward AF AI sounding voice tryingto show their wacky personality quirks I am out of there SO FAST.
      HONESTLY, this is one of the channels I've been subbed to the longest, because again, if you have an idea of wtf you're talking about AND happen to have a little charm or sense of humor watching your videos are not akin to getting your "WISDOM TEETH PULLED".

I mean, sure, she _did_ the screaming thing, but only for a short while and then she got her crap together, took a deep breath while exploring and cataloguing her options and then she actually gets things done and prepares to defend herself. I thought, for instance, that the idea with keeping pots with boiling water on the stove was both seemingly simple and genius at the same time.
      I guess in future discussions about female main characters and heroines, I will definitely use her as example for how a _good_ female lead is written and played, because both author(s) and actress definitely deserve kudos for Brynn. Nooo, she is not beating up men twice her size and thrice her weight and muscle mass. Nooo, she is not just acting like a man in a dress or never shows fear. She is aware of her physical weakness, so she stays cool and uses her smarts, her surroundings and what she has at hand as weapon. She is allowed to feel fear, to panic even, but she does not allow that fear to come between her and survival and is capable of pushing it aside when she must.

    Not that it’s a super important detail of the movie, but I found the “hierarchy” of the aliens interesting. They’re not all just humanoid creatures. There was the smaller one that is maybe used specifically for close quarters combat, the large one, which came across as more animalistic, and the medium sized ones which definitely are on top the food chain in that society. They got the better of Brynn everytime except the beginning when she got lucky she was holding that sharp object the way she was

      I think there is a "main" species that takes over other species minds and puts them in some sort of trance where they experience whatever they desire most. That being said any other alien you see is probably from a conquered or assimilated race from other planets that the "main alien" (the small one in the mouth) has already conquered, maybe? The movement of some of the aliens was very strange also, it wasn't streamline and smooth like you would expect it was more like say how a zombie or living dead would move. (at least how they are portrayed in our media) That makes me think that something else is in control of their bodies but who knows...I haven't watched it yet 😅

    • @AraClaire
      @AraClaire Před 7 měsíci

      @DavidSantos-ix1hu yup, exactly. Another way to look at it is that the aliens are preserving life and the planet as a whole because of or at least to understand it's diversity and uniqueness as any biologist or even archeologist would. With humans being quite destructive and resistant to change or unity due to a collective trauma, aliens would natural look to other means of control in order to preserve life and to grow to understand the human experience...and perhaps in time train them to be unified and preservers as well, allowing the aliens to no longer have to use the bodies as hosts to save humanity from itself.
      Just what I took from it anyway.

      @dianapennepacker6854 Před 7 měsíci +12

      Yeah I think you're right. I was thinking they were sort of like the ugh... Ga Uld (?) or whatever from Stargate. I think that is what they are called.
      They are basically a predatory symbiote that required humans to survive. Since their offspring retained the memories of their lineage so they were hyper intelligent.
      That would explain the different types. Maybe the Greys were biomechanic or they were a "conquered" species with sub species much like humans to Neanderthals on their home world.
      My only gripe or question is why even need them when you apparently can yeeet a bitch with the powaaah of dah minnnnnnd! Nah better to go charge the hairless ape, and get stabbed!

    • @bkhai1041
      @bkhai1041 Před 7 měsíci +13

      A lot of people have that theory, I actually thought about it too at one point. However, I think it's either a symbiote or something the aliens can just produce themselves so they can take control of other living things.
      If it was a parasite, the alien wouldn't be able to just spit up it's own parasite and give it to something else. I figure that this implies that the aliens don't actually need those things, and they can function fine without it, it seems to be more of a tool.
      It's interesting when you compare the mailman bus scene to the big alien falling off of the house, there are similarities there that imply the throat thing controls the big alien, too.
      Only thing is that you don't see this problem with the little alien and the telepathic alien. The telepathic ones have the weird cracking thing but it seems to relate to their actual biology, not a result of the throat thing controlling them.
      As a whole, they might just be some kind of explorers, saviors, or something like that. The way every alien acts doesn't give the impression of warriors or soldiers, but something more benevolent or at least curious.

      though, when she killed the first alien, they put a lot of attention onto the parasite still being alive and leaving the main body, so maybe so

    This movie was a religious themed movie. She was living in pain and guilt over killing her friend. When they caught her and she finally confronted her memory of the tragic event (with the tentacle thing inside her), she couldn't bear it and ran away, and then encountered herself in the forest. She slashed her own throat (i.e. the doppelgänger). That was a metaphor for suicide. And then she was pulled up into the spaceship for "judgment" where she was judged by the big eye, representing a supreme being, who then sent her to a sort of heaven where she was supremely happy. This movie was about forgiveness and that's why the only sentence in the entire movie was "I'm sorry, Maude." That's my take on it.

      It was based upon an old Twilight Zone episode. I am surprised this reviewer did not give out a shout-out to the original episode.

    Just because the people in the town at the end are acting that way doesn’t mean the aliens in other parts of the world are carrying on the same way. They maybe just doing that in that small town because the girl won’t stop fighting but they may also be carrying out what they really want to do towards the rest of the world.

    Just watched this movie today. I would say it's up there with The Shinning, in regards to the story telling. Those first scenes where she went to town reminded me of how I feel with anxiety. That everyone is staring at you, judging you, and loathing your existence. I've often felt like this, like I am in exhile in society. This movie was just amazing and is worth rewatching.

    I love how she is no worry to them taking over the planet. Even though she was killing them left and right like it was her job 😂 Even with telekinesis they could barely catch her. This girl should go to the top of the final girl list😂

    Really enjoyed how twisted that ending was with her getting a HEA and the rest of the humans...not so much. Don't think it's a dream. I think the aliens genuinely connected with her fight to survive in a way they hadn't with others and realized that she wasn't going to fight them if they just left her alone.

    My take on it is she suffers from guilt so much so she isolates herself. So all she really has is grief to accompany her. I feel as though the aliens symbolize the feeling that grief and guilt cause which is terrifying. I feel like the harder she fought and the more determined she became the less scary the aliens became. Symbolizing perseverance and the ability to overcome that fear of having faced that grief. Finally accepting that she made a mistake and when she saw her younger self writing that letter and touched her hand was her forgiving herself. The ending I feel is her having overcome her fears accepting her mistakes and moving on with her life.

      I’m sure many did but they have that blue light that freezes humans, don’t you’re remember how she had a pot as a weapon and they froze it? Plus if they get killed their parasite thing just slithers out and gets put in another body.

    me and my dad watched this movie right after this video.
    he doesn't like horror stuff but scifi stuff is an interest for him.
    also I like how there's no dialogue in the whole film, it made sure it wasn't 45 mins of build up for the aliens only for it to be 5 mins of dark alien footage you can barely see.
    great movie! loved it!

    i thought it was more that her grief was so strong that their ability to create a fake world in their subjects head didn't work, it might have been for the first time ever that a being was implanted with alien and managed to break free of the happy life they normally generate for their host. I think once they found the alien she pulled out of mouth they were shocked that this one being in the entire planet stopped them from using her. i wonder if they let her go because the grief was so strong that any other alien they implant will fail. pretty good movie

    I know the director said she wasn't zombied in the end, but I think it's weird that the zombied people aren't all cracky and weird. They clearly were before in the bus and every other time, and the aliens were cracky too. So just for clarity I wish there had been a little weridness there cause it really seems like she's living in the fake-zombie world.

    • @shebreathesingold8043
      @shebreathesingold8043 Před 7 měsíci +8

      It seems they were in attack-mode when they were trying to "invade" but the end is post-invasion. Most of civilization has been taken over so the aliens don't have to be "cracky/weird" anymore. Meanwhile, Brynn wasn't under the alien influence. She's accepted her new world and forgiven herself for her past actions, so she's relatively happy.
