    I've noticed it's been hard in general to sell on Poshmark and I think it's more that people feel that they're spending more money paying us vs something they can find on their own at a thrift shop or just go online to the clearance section in every store.What also doesn't help is that they have the shipping costs so even though you're charging them $12 for the item they don't want to pay the extra $6 or 7 in shipping.

    • @somanysparkles
      @somanysparkles Před 6 lety +18

      Maryv I agree. This has stopped me from making purchases on Poshmark unless I am able to bundle.

      I’m Chianta There are so many things unfortunately that have pretty much ruined the effects of selling on Poshmark. I should make a video on the top 10 reasons why it's not working. Not just because of their 10 to 20% take out on your purchases and the shipping cost on top of that but the fact of many videos being made here on CZcams of people purchasing things in thrift stores for 2 and $3 and as the buyer seeing that, you pretty much feel like you're being ripped off when that person will post it now for 20 and $25 or more.That kills someone's head completely in wanting to even buy on Poshmark after seeing videos like that. Pretty much it all boils down to there's a trillion women doing the same thing ending up with hundreds of the same blouse all different prices all competing against each other and ending up with close to no sales at the end of the day.Which now hurts us resellers.

    • @Soundsliketara
      @Soundsliketara Před 6 lety +18

      Two things: I do agree that the shipping costs keep people from buying bc it takes a $12 item up to $18. I have much better luck on mercari where I have the option of free or reduced shipping for buyers.
      I also think too many ppl are trying to buy and resell which kills it bc you need to make a certain amount of money. I sell mostly things I just don’t wear/need anymore and I think I sell faster bc I’m more likely to accept a low offer bc I just wanna get rid of stuff vs if I had paid for it I would be stuck to a number I need in order to get a return.

      Quite a lot of people don't have the time or desire to wade through millions of clothing items at thrift stores, or watch all the videos about Poshmark on youtube. That is your target customer. Encourage bundles and offer lower shipping to people who have shown interest.

    I don’t resell often, so maybe I have no idea what I’m talking about...BUT...I think reselling is 90% photography because I can sell Coach all day long, everyday for $50-60 bucks or more easy. Everytime I list a coach bag on EBay, it sells within a week. I can sell certain pieces, like new without tags, or perfect condition vintage/older pieces for hundreds. BUT I spend a lot of time creating beautiful, clear, photos (and lots of them) with extremely detailed descriptions. I also only sell like new either with or without tags, maybe that’s the difference?

      Used to be CAbi on the older thinner labels - now I believe it is cabi on the newer labels (at least that is how they are showing it on their website). Take a peek on ebay and search cabi. Stands for Carol Anderson by Invitation. The clothing is sold through hostess parties. Roughly similar to Avon or Tupperware salespeople. Nice stuff. I usually do okay with it but I don't find it very often.

    I would love for you to do a video on ‘measurements’. Why you don’t add them to listings and why you don’t answer questions when they are measurement related (excluding pant inseams). This is such a controversial subject and I think you’d be the best person to do the video. I hate adding them and feel if I didn’t have to, I’d get through my death pile a lot faster!!

    • @nicovargas7776
      @nicovargas7776 Před 6 lety +15

      odiecat1 I get frustrated when people don't add measurements to their listings on eBay. At least waist and length measurements for skirts and just measurement for jackets and tops. I always see something I like and send a message for the bust or waist and length measurements. Rarely get a message back which sucks because if it will fit me I will buy. If I am interested enough to send a message requesting measurements then I would definitely buy if it's my size.

    • @odiecat1
      @odiecat1 Před 6 lety +8

      Nico Vargas Thanks for telling me this. All my listings currently have measurements and I’ll continue to add them. I see so many listings without them and sellers who don’t reply when asked and it baffles me how one can be successful without them, yet so many are. Hoping she does a video on this one day.

    • @chanda-aime6388
      @chanda-aime6388 Před 5 lety +1

      I post measurements in all my listings but the argument I hear is that adding them gives buyers who have remorse, a way out. Buyers will alter the item to show they got a different measurement so based on that they are able to return. Not sure how I feel about that yet lol

    Clothing is oversaturated. Jeans are plentiful and when you can buy them at Old Navy for $10, not worth it to thrift. Thanks for this. You confirm my suspicions about certain brands. No more Ralph Lauren for me....never unless it's vintage or a leather jacket. Actually whenever you can go to TJMaxx clearance rack and find those brand names, forget about buying them. MK, Chico's and JJill - no good for me. I have a large size Chico's that's been sitting forever and it's a great vest. I've been seeing Karl Lagerfeld and Michael Kors shoes at DSW and that's a clue that the value has decreased.
    No more BCBG for me. I had to donate BCBG heels after they wouldn't sell; and I auctioned off a purse at a loss.
    OH Boy, there are racks and racks of athletic wear at the thrifts. Coach is plentiful. It has to be leather or functional for me to buy it. Low selling value.

    Michael Kors is a terrible investment and horrible resale value. Also very bad reputation in the fashion industry. There are many other classier brands who have better resale value where you can find them for cheaper in the grey market.

    • @lindsb3541
      @lindsb3541 Před 6 lety +10

      Agreed !! The quality of MK has gone waaay down. I have an MK bag from the early 2000's that was amazing quality, full-grain leather and solid sturdy brass hardware (but it's been sitting forever because the brand has gotten such a bad rep). And the stuff they've been making for the past few years is totally cheap looking and tacky.

    • @azhaircountess9798
      @azhaircountess9798 Před 6 lety +17

      Agree MK is so ghetto, literally every person I know or see who wears it and or carries the bags or wallets is always very low class and tacky.

    • @foxayfox
      @foxayfox Před 6 lety +15

      Miranda Sevven some of their designs are tacky but in my opinion the classic plain leather totes they do are still good bags. I have three I used for work/college and they are really good quality. I only buy plain items though in colours like black, navy, dark purple and brown. Every major designer brand is worn by “tacky” people. Think of the Louis Vuitton monogram print, Gucci, Burberry etc. the less classy people tend to have the tacky stuff from that brand and the classier people have the classy pieces. The brand doesn’t wear you, you wear it.
      When people don’t understand that they make themselves look tacky.

    Great video! Please do a video on brands you pick up. I see a lot of these brands when I'm thrifting and I think it's a combination of an over saturated market and brands that are not really trendy right now.
    People are a lot more knowledgeable of the market and a lot of people resell themselves so I think when they buy it, it has to be really on trend to make it worth not just finding yourself. At least that is how I feel when I buy online it's really got to be something I'm looking for at the best price!🌟

    Are you Posh only or do you do eBay? Because I sell those types of items every day on eBay but it's a much lower price, like $8 - $12. As the saying goes, you make it up on volume. You've got to source large quantities and list consistently. It's a grind but the stuff I get at the bins is lower quality anyway so I don't have a choice. Everybody and his brother is reselling now so you kind of have to take what you can get.

Plain black tank tops will sell within a day or two for $35+ for me. I'm really picky about some of their other stuff though - I won't buy any wide leg pants or anything that I know is more than a few years old unless it's really sought after. But where I live I find so much athletic gear I wouldn't be able to have a store unless I sell it. Lululemon, Patagonia, Athleta, and Prana are some of my best selling brands. I stay away from plain nike and Adidas stuff too unless it's the streetwear type stuff kids are wearing now.

    It's really hard to really see what an item is like online. You can't really tell the sizing or how it will look. I just bought a Lauren blazer retail from them. I followed their measurements, I knew it may be a tad large but when I got it and tried it on it swallowed me. I think the labels got mixed up somehow. But luckily I can send it back. With resale, you get what you get. But if you know that something is your size and the fit, then you are fine. Man! I sure loved that blazer!

    1 important thing to note is this really depends on who your buyers are. Some things on Posh some sellers don't have a good time with, others will sell it quickly. I comp everything but know some things will still sit, others will shock me.

    I work at a chain resale store, and yes LuLaRoe is now coming in every day. People are dumping it and it's not necessarily moving out of our store. We never get the black leggings - so I'm sure those are probably a good flip still. But the whole brand has taken a significant downward spiral in resale.

    So many things I agree with here. I can’t get jeans or denim of any kind to move in my closet. Miss Me is the one exception and the resale value isn’t great. Same with BCBG and Coach. I would also like to add Vera Bradley and Cynthia Rowley. Cynthia Rowley sits in my closet for absolute ever! Thanks for the video!

    I think what brings brands down is the flooding of fake/replica merchandise. Once a counterfeiter starts pumping out a bag at $10 - $20 the whole market for that design becomes cheapened.

      Elisa Goldman - Agree about crafting or repurposing the denim. I see it everywhere. Maybe learn how to make some sew-less items like beach/tote bags or braided round rugs. I imagine tweens would love to put one or two rugs in their rooms.
      Aside from rugs and tote bags, there are many tutorials for repurposing denim here on CZcams. Everything from vintage looking wall hangings, aprons, halter tops and even sneakers and flip flops for the more adventurous. Good luck!

      @dinganddoo2 Před 6 lety

      Kelly Buck - I must agree, if you're not a crafter (or are), it takes quite a bit of time to make some of the items I listed. The price would have to reflect time spent as well as materials. Most people will just buy cheap knock offs from China. Sad but true. Crafting seems to be a dying art 😔

    • @dinganddoo2
      @dinganddoo2 Před 6 lety +2

      Kelly Buck - I have sold a bunch of jeans at larger sizes. Anything under a 14 doesn't move. I found a bunch in the 18-24 and up size range and they sold very quickly. I can only surmise that larger woman would rather buy from from eBay then shop in department stores.

    As cute as printed jeans are on the hanger, the simple fact is that they just don't look good on most women. The majority of females are pear shaped (bigger on bottom) & prints/bright colors only emphasize that. Since the market of people who can pull them off is so limited it makes sense that they wouldn't be a top seller. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these brands!
