You will need a retainer walk anyway to stop erosion.
I think if he'd built a retaining wall, he could've used less dirt leveling that side too.
I might use large boulders along the edge to keep the land more stable

Also, my priest often throws his own parties at the church. It involves waking up early and mulching/ planting/ weeding out the various gardens he keeps up at the parish 😂 everyone knows when he says, “You’re invited to a party!” one better pull out the gardening gloves and tools.
