  • A Sunday stroll in Bjørvika, a new area of Oslo that has been developed in the past years. We visited the new Library that opened to the public this year.

This summer i visited Oslo for the first time since 2016. While there I did the same walk you did, because I wanted to see all the new buildings in the Bjørvika bay with my own eyes and take some photos. Barcode and all the other new buildings are part of the fjord city (fjordbyen) urban renewal project. The goal with the project is to remove the barrier between the city and the fjord created by the industry on the harbors.
There is a lot of criticism though, especially targeted towards the standard and prices of the homes being built. They are so expensive that only the wealthy can buy those homes.
All the new buildings and the Oslo S train station with all of the railroad area is built on claimed land. The original beach of the bay was just north of the railroad tracks. This is a problem because the ground is very soft. Therefore the buildings are built on poles drilled down to the bedrock some 30 - 70 meters down.
Personally I like most of the new buildings in Bjørvika, but I'm not fond of the new Munch museum. It looks like a massive futuristic watch tower from a dystopian movie.
You made a nice fruit bowl!

Yeah, there is a lot of people that don't like this area, but there was also many that dislikes Akker brygge when it was first built and now it is one of the most popular places amongst Norwegians in Oslo. 😍☺️ I love that they are giving life to this otherwise abandoned areas along the waterfront.

I remember this area, 40 yrs ago, from Operation Sail Tall Ships 1978 😀
It was a true port for small/ medium boats, fresh seafood to buy, part of the charming provincial Oslo.
I wish it was preserved, at least a little bit

I like the rugged, slight asymmetric appearance of your ceramic fruit bowl. I'm quite interested to see the final result!

Bjørvika became reality after a fire about 2000. The abandoned parts of new Oslo S were cultivated. Those parts were nothing but old concrete. A huge fire started. We assume that entrepeneurs and investors organized the fire. The remainings of the old rail way station were teared down. It was time to built a new suburban.

Bjørvika is COLD in the winter due to the humidity. -15 Celsius in the forrest is warm compare to -5 Celsius in Bjørvika.

That library is not the National Library.... which is located elsewhere in Oslo. The library is named Deichman and is the main library for Oslo. So it is owned and run by Oslo city administration (Oslo kommune).
