    Before you start this project get a telescoping magnet incase you drop something and if you do wait till the horn is off to retrieve nuts or bolts. I removed the AC pump to get better access to bottom bolt, wrench for the top 2 bolts. Took me an hour.
    Its a louder whistle, seems to spool a bit quicker.

      Hell yeah it did! The port matched aftermarket downpipe, ported manifolds including bd full bore manifold, ported turbo with billet compressor wheel, ported heads, 45 over injectors, 4 inch exhaust and cold air intake helped too! 😀

    The kdbp brand turbo horn is such better quality. And a nice candy paint blue to it instead of that old Ford blue color. Can definitely hear your turbo with this mod

      Hey Bobby, thanks for the question. I have your "after" turbo whistle right here in this video: czcams.com/video/bF5CRrIennE/video.html I gotta say though, " before" I couldn't hear any turbo whistle at all as one can imagine with the ole LB7 in stock form. That said, the turbo horn matched with the AFE Cold Air Intake and MBRP 4" exhaust brought out the whistle and throaty roar. Stay tuned though because we are gearing up for a turbo upgrade with a 10 blade turbine.

      Hey Tyler, thanks for the question! The turbo horn is holding up great and gives that extra seat of the pants boost as well as provides a nice turbo whistle you can hear while driving. Structurally it is stil strong, its not bent or melted or anything. The paint still looks new too :) You can see it again on some of my newer videos, especially the FPR video where I remove it again to gain access.

      @@tylerroberts5704 I hear ya man, I've always been leary as well and in part that's what led me to create this youtube channel and select so many different parts from Amazon that I installed on my LB7. So far in relation to truck parts I've had a pretty solid experience. Some of the cheaper parts I gambled on like the "OKAY Fuel Pressure Regulator" I picked up for $40 has been working great for the past few months I've owned it. The Turbo Horn hasn't had an issue at all, and same goes for the intercooler pipe. The name brand stuff from Amazon like the Dorman brake lines, PPE valve boost and PPE tuner is also standing the test of time and the Amazon experience was exactly like you would expect it: quick delivery, free shipping with Prime, and priced just right.

Pair that with a nice down pipe and you will be golden in the performance, and sound department. 👌 you can go the extra mile with uppipes and manifolds if your application calls for it.

      @@specops1903 I hear ya, they are both good setups with their own pro's and con's. AFE is plastic so it has better heat insulation and therefore will deliver cooler air than the metal HSP counterpart. On the other hand HSP has nice paint job options and because it is metal it will let more of that turbo sound through.

    Steel, aluminum temps matter.

    • @KooshdaakaaGarage
      @KooshdaakaaGarage  Před 3 lety

      Absolutely aluminum temps matter. Now do you say that because you prefer a steel horn fed typically by a plastic or aluminum air intake then into a steel turbo which feeds into an aluminum pipe which feeds into an aluminum inter-cooler back into another aluminum pipe then into a steel Y-bridge which feeds into a steel intake manifold then finally into the aluminum cylinder heads (which is a typical stock Duramax setup)? Is it your stance that a steel horn which heats slower and hold heats longer is superior to an aluminum horn which heats and coolers quicker to that of its steel counterpart? I'm interested in the effects on both the air temps feeding into the engine as well as the effects this has on the EGTs... Perhaps you have tested this already and that is why you commented? Please share your data. Depending on your findings I could be persuaded to re-assess my methods and swap out for a steel horn.

    • @SINISTER69er
      @SINISTER69er Před 3 lety +1

      @@KooshdaakaaGarage look, temps stay low using all aluminum parts, only parts on a turbo that are steel are the exhaust side, i use a plastic cold air intake, fed through an aluminum horn, through an aluminum intercooler as far as i know. You want cooler temps? Steel retains heat longer/ dissipates slower. Aluminum once cooled stays cooler longer/ won’t change temps as drastically. From what i see staying away from any steel for cooling works best. Good luck

This truck is actually more of a road tripping, Alaskan mountain climbing, camper hauling, hunting & fishin rig that's had a cabover on it since I got it a couple years (put my camper on it within a couple days of purchasing the truck). I have to say, shes pretty quick for a big pig with a turtle shell, and have no idea how she performs empty with all these performance parts I put on it. I can say that when she was bone stock and empty she was a complete turd in the speed department. Just the same, you can she how quickly she gets up to 60 with my camper on it in the PPE tuner video I made recently (pre intercooler pipe & intake heater delete)and compare that to other people's videos who have a stock lb7 and can see a difference for yourself. However, I try not to hammer on the pedal to frequently because she does has a stock tranny in good condition and I'd like to keep it that way. live to hunt another day and all that. Happy to report that she ran cool and strong all summer long while I was chugging through the ole logging roads around the southeastern parts of alaska. Mission success so far. Cheers.

      Kooshdaakaa Well, got a new horn for my birthday and went out to do the install. After pulling what seemed a lot of hardware off my CA LB7, I found myself totally stumped at the left side fastener...and I haven’t even gone after the lower bolt yet! 😰😰😰 I can clearly see the bolt in question, but even after grinding down a ratcheting box wrench, no joy on getting around a small protrusion on the large duct on the left. Maybe the CA version is different, but I can’t see how getting that bolt out is possible without massive tear down.
      Believe I’m going to cut my losses and put everything back. 😡😡😡

      @@stevewaclo167 ah man! I actually did a more in depth filming of the turbo horn removal last week when I changed my FPR, I haven't edited the footage yet but maybe there will be something in that video that will help, I'll try to get that up this weekend (presently doing a camper remodel). Getting to that bottom left bolt is a giant pain. Did you: remove the waste gate pressure tube, remove the wire that connects to your intake heater and use a long 10mm wrench? It's a bit frustrating but after several micro turns the bolt will indeed come out. To get the bottom right bolt I used a series of 1/4" extensions, at least 12" total with a swivel adapter, throw some tape on the swivel adapter to give it some rigidity. You should be able to feed that in from by the AC compressor. I do not have an AC compressor so it may be a little tight for you but I think you should still be able to feed from the front. The nice thing about the aftermarket turbo horns is usually there is a cut away on the bottom two bolt mounts so in the event you have to take them off again, you will only have to loosen those bolts instead of completely removing them. You can do it Steve!!! I almost slapped everything back together last week when I was trying to remove the FPR because getting to the bottom screw seemed impossible. Stay frosty and keep looking at it from different angles until find away, you will absolutely get it done.
