It’s really important to address how much racism exists in the healthcare system. Doctors have historically believed that Black people experience less pain than non-Black people, despite no evidence of it whatsoever. Racism is perpetuated in an overwhelming amount of systems all throughout the world and it’s only by addressing it that we can start to make a difference.

I had two children at a military hospital while my husband was in the navy.
I only had one doctor’s visit for each pregnancy due to overcrowding.
I nearly died with my second child because I knew I was in labor and doctors sent me home because they had my due date wrong and assumed it was false labor….they said I was hysterical.
At 19, they wanted to sterilize me because I had my quota of 2. If I had been 21 they would have done it without permission.
It’s not just black women, though statistically they are in worse shape. The entire medical system needs continuous education on caring for pregnant women.
