Fabulous and thanks so much for the upload. Yes, I spent many an hour (during schools hours) on the international pier in 1970, Great landworks footage of the domestic and inter pier being constructed. Fond memories!!
Nice video. Used to be an aircraft spotter in the late 70s. Spent many summer days at the airport. I'even been to Sharston Baths (went to St Augustines back in the day).
Another great video - I came to Manchester too late to remember anything before '84, but I do remember being impressed seeing the 4 huge chandeliers hung in a row on my first flight out out of Manchester!
A lot of early stuff before my time l started going there in the late 60's only the 2 piers then. But to be able to walk along tops on terrace area was brilliant up close and personal to the aircraft. The smell of aviation fuel the action around tarmac planes, trucks was great.
really enjoyed that, thanks. I too was a regular visitor in 60's and 70's used to cycle there from The Broomwood. Ah.. happy times out on the piers. spent whole days there plane spotting. I worked there for a season around 82. My Dad worked at Fairey just after the war. The Romper used to be a good ole pub.
Ohhh, that was great. I can remember as a young kid in the 1970s standing atop the pier & waveing to pilots as we waited for my granny & grandad to board the aircraft. In those days you had to walk out onto the tarmac to get to the aircraft steps. In 78 my brother and i went to Mallorca, i was in awe as we approached the aircraft, but my brother who was a couple of years younger at 9 or so was terrified at haveing to walk out to the plane & he had a tight grip on my grandmothers coat tails...LoL
We lived in the prefabs on Royal Oak. Went to Yew Tree school. I remember wagging school as we'd heard that a plane had crashed. It was a Viscount coming in to land. Must have been round about 1957/8.

Hi Andrew.....me Crossacres Junior then Yew Tree, born in 63
In my eyes it is still Ringway Airport and the name should be reinstated. Airports should never change their name.
