- A look at some of the wartime buildings that were still at Ringway in the 1990's. Some may be the early 00's.
The Airman's and Sergeant's quarters were in a communal building.
The building numbers on many of the structures had been changed by the airport authority over the years and so, quite often do not match the numbers on the original 1945 plan that I have used. Most of the larger brick buildings appear to be "one off" or local designs.
Some of these pictures are included in my publication "British Airfield Buildings of the Second World War" Vol 1.
Vol 1 and 2 are available directly from me or on ebay.

I spent most of my younger years working in and around the airport and never knew the history of some of those old buildings. The pill boxes at 3:10 can still be found all around the public pathways and fields and I didn't think for a minute they were AA posts. Also some of the farmland around the area used old propellers from spitfires for holding up the fences. Thanks for sharing the photos.
Glad you liked the vid. Yes many MG posts were adapted and in some cases had a larger AA gun mounted on top of the post. Not sure how these were configured at Manch. I had over 20 years in the ATC tower at Manch - loved it!
@@GrahamInnes1 Agree about the great place to work. Worked 3 years in the customs bonded warehouses before moving to Servisair as a CS Agent. Good place to build a career.
I remember the old southside and MSF very well, later years working in B1 and B1B for those that remember.
I worked in ATC from 1990 - 2010
Loved it!
