Nice little vid Dave, thanks for sharing, looks like a fantastic day for it. Brings back a few memories when i climbed this with Matt Heliker a few years back. The UK was on red weather alert from Beast from the east and I remember having to commando crawl after the top out as the wind was so strong 😂
Haha good effort, in that spell of weather I was having a hard time even at Dumby czcams.com/video/_YtcA7Ovx00/video.html
Just watched the Alpinist this week. Timely catching this. Thanks for sharing.
I can't believe you managed to condense what must have been an amazing day out into a 3 minute video. Thanks for sharing!
I shame really but then again its hard filming these things in their entirety.
Much quicker soloing. Only took about an hour and a bit for the route. Back in the house for 1pm.
@@climbermacleod sure, looks like a chill day.... Show off ;p
Went straight to my bookshelf and read the SMC journal entry by the original climbers.
A wee bit less straight forward for them,I think.
Those climbers wrote, what to me is, the finest "mountaineering" tale on the market to this day.
It is,indeed,a fitting memory.
That's some stunning aerial footage! I like the calm commentary, too 👍
Awesome job and love the narrative!
Thanks for sharing this, I love the angles of the footage that really gives a feeling of beauty and exposure :)
That's beautiful, glad to see you enjoying yourself!
Looks like a fun outing, Dave! Congrats on making your idea reality. So cool when conditions come together for the perfect climb. Always an incredible experience you never forget!
Beautiful work Dave!!!! Watching your videos with a first cup of coffee in the morning always makes for a good start into the day! Cheers!
Bruno
Absolutely incredible, thank you for sharing.
Beautiful piece of work Dave!
Thanks for sharing Dave, so inspiring! I know little about ice climbing but living in Chile there is plenty of ice and beautiful scenery waiting for me to get ready. I would love to support your Patreon just to watch the GoPro footage and learn all the preparation that goes into this!
Simply stunning 🏔👍🏴 both the climbing and the views! Ben Nevis fantastic thanks 🙏🏼 for sharing
An amazing video. Videos like this is why I'm planning on taking the step to experience ice climbing this year.
Great video. Your videos always inspire me to re-examine my relationship with climbing and leave behind some of the negativity I've been collecting
Looks amazing. Love your work.
Beautiful short film and great script, thanks
Some beautiful footage in this movie. The conditions look amazing!
Amazing video and climb Dave!
Would love it if this video was 10x as long.. but also very grateful your video exists in any form. Thanks Dave.
Awesome work and video Dave. Would love to see some more first person shots in there!
Quite amazing... Well done!
Absolutely spectacular.
Legend. In so many ways
Fantastic camera work with the drone.
Those are the days to live for.....
BTW is that a Brocken Spectre at 2min 35s ?
Brilliant.
Brilliant video Dave. Looks like similar conditions to when I did it in 2013.
Great climb and footage :) 👌📽❄
Similar style of alpine ice we get here in NZ. South faces down here get plastered in a styrofoam type neve ice. Wonderful to climb
Possibly the best Nevis vid Iv seen on here ..! An must say mate..balls of steel wtf !
Amazing! Great motivation for me....
I don't do winter climbing but enjoyed this short. PS your mugshot is masking the end credits, I've no idea what contribution Brodie Hood made!
"... gives u a feeling of pure peace and joy that lives long in ur memory.." - love it
New vid! Nice!
Yeah Dave!
Christ, what an amazing video.
Awesome!!!
Awesome... looks like you took on all the hardest parts..
Brilliant
Gaun yersel Dave!
Staggering!!
Would be cool if you reviewed some of the mountaineering/climbing documentaries that came out recently (The Alpinist, 14 peaks). Your measured, sports scienceish approach to them would be interesting.
Beautiful video. Very inspirational. Who is the band that is providing the background music?
I've got this route top of my Nevis 'to do list' but soloing?? Mad, and impressive and epic. Although with the poor gear you normally get on the route is it not essentially soloing anyhoo..😂
Epic Dave, please don't die doing this
It's really up to the ice. If you do it enough you will die
Awesome
This look epic
Wow!
Wow, you must need a haul bag for your kahunas!
How do you get down? Seems like that would be the hard part no? Maybe base jump, or ski?
glorious
Greta route & film too. Another classic
Balls of Titanium 💪💪💪
what a beauty!
What is V,5 translated in alpine ICE Grades? WI 5?
Epic
Nice
Nice one, but a wee bit too short, love to have watched more😇
All i can say is... fuck that! Fair play David.
This is amazing. Just curious how you get down? skiing?
Dave MacLeod probably just reverses it. Everybody else will just walk off or descend a grade 1 gully.
Ski Down now Dave aye ;-)
How do you get back down again?
Just walked.
Dave, can you give us an idea of how dangerous this was? It feels like very, but a scramble 20m could be dangerous if you decided to jump off? How does this compare? You seem so casual, but it seems so dangerous. Still, great ascent!
It’s perfectly safe, as long as you don’t fal
leading on ice (most of the time) should be regarded the same as soloing, while it is dangerous soloing this route is not too different than being roped up
Its all relative. For the well prepared climber, on the right day, it's safer than the drive to get there. For the less well prepared climber it might be pretty mad.
@@climbermacleod lovely response, thanks.
Eeeek
when i am 65 and i dont have to work anymore i will climb Ben Nevis.
Thank you for the movie.
How does one get down?
you use a Homeward Bone, duh!
walk off the side of the mountain.
When he says he gets just as excited on a hanging board at home as he does climbing a winter face?? I mean what an icon but cannot think of him the same again. Sorry Dave.
when he said board, he's talking about his 45er, not a hangboard/fingerboard
@@bronsoncc regardless how can you compare the excitement of climbing 45er to a winter face. My position stands a 45er basically still a boring training board.
@@donalddarko3676 It's probably why he's an extremely strong, technical climber. Passion for all that implies gets you putting the time in
@@largeformatlandscape Having passion for the outcome and being motivated to do the training is not the same as saying you fina it just as exciting. People like tommy caldwell said that the months spent alone training were lonely but neccessary. I can safely assume plenty of better climbers than dave do not enjoy training on a 45er training board as much as they do climbing a big wall or project. The fact that your even defending it is ludicrous. I have serious doubts as to whether he even meant it that literally, sounds like cinematic waffle to me.
