    Hey guys, in this video, I do a full in-depth breakdown of the MaxRewards app (and no I'm NOT sponsored). There are so many different ways to manage your credit card accounts these days, but MaxRewards is one of the most used and advertised ones, so I thought I would share my experience with y’all. Not only do I do a review, but I also answer the question of “is MaxRewards GOLD worth it?” This was one of those questions that I had for a long time, so I went ahead and bought it for myself to test out for y’all and answer that question for you. I also compare some of MaxRewards features with other popular apps like CardPointers to give y’all an honest review. In the end, the fact that MaxRewards allows you to consolidate all of your card information in one place with a clean and concise interface makes it a worthwhile download in my opinion. You may disagree though! So let me know what you think down below.
    As a quick summary of the app’s main features, MaxRewards allows you to:
    - Activate bonus categories and card-linked offers in your sleep
    - Maximize credit card benefits with personalized advice
    - Manage all of your credit cards and credit scores in one app
    - And much more!!

    Really detailed review of MaxRewards - great job Spencer! I did try the free version of this app at one point, but I also got frustrated with the connectivity issues when loading the app. I'm pretty sure that that isn't the app's fault since I'm sure they use some third party software to link to your bank, but it still takes away from that seamless experience. Otherwise, I agree, it's a great app to manage all your credit cards in one place!

      Thanks Stan! A little bit of a different video, but I think it’s something that would help a lot of people out even if they just use the free version. This is interesting, I’ve always been skeptical of these apps, I thought I remember at some point maybe Mint had some security issue with your credit card privacy.
    I do like that it pools most of your cards together.
    Also, I liked and subbed because the phone in the video cleverly told me to. 😂
    Nice Spencer, i’ve been learning a lot of new things with your channel lately.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem +2

      It’s definitely not a bad thing to be skeptical. Security is no joke! I just know that when it comes to credit cards, if my card numbers were hacked I would be safe since I’m spending the banks money and not my own. I’m more worried about those all around budgeting apps like Mint and Truebill.
      And yeah I really enjoy having all my information in one place. Even just checking it like once per week gives me a good idea of where I’m sitting in all respects.
      I’m glad the phone caught your attention 😂 I thought I may as well spice it up a bit with that. Kinda sad I didn’t earn your sub sooner though đŸ€šđŸ€Ł jk
      I’m happy you’ve been enjoying the content man! It’s definitely not getting pushed out like it used to, but I’m just trying to keep the content quality as high as I can!

    • @AnthonyVenture
      @AnthonyVenture Pƙed rokem +1

      @@SpencerJohnsonOfficial ahh I see, so mint is a little more in-depth, never really looked into it.
      That makes sense I guess, can always lock the card and it’s the banks money. Fraud protection on these cards etc.
      I know you’ve been feeling it man, I can feel it in your writing. Don’t worry at all, it’s not isolated to you so you know you’re not the problem. Peace of mind.
      Keep putting the great, interesting content out there and there’s no telling when the algorithm will take it.
      Like literally the 1-10 system means nothing it seems ha.
      I don’t have to tell you this, you’re more experienced anyway ha, we got this man. Keep going!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem +2

      @@AnthonyVenture Yeah Mint is more of an all encompassing personal finance app for sure. They each have their place!
      And yeah man I know we’re all feeling it which is tough. But I really appreciate the kind words and at the end of the day you’re 100% right. As long as we all keep posting great content it’s really only a matter of time before the algorithm picks it up. It’s just weird how hard of a turn it all took! I love learning about the algorithm though so having experience with it (good and bad) is great in my eyes. The 1-10 system is definitely a vanity metric, so it’s good to not let that destroy your confidence. Like you said, we’re all in this together man, so keep up the great work on your end as well!

I watched a long video by the CP founder on Shaun Lane’s channel and found him very convincing.) Good work!

      Thank you so much for saying that Marcus! I know a lot of people are tired of seeing the MaxRewards ads, but I thought it would be good for people to understand if the app may actually be good for them. I personally do enjoy using it and I’ve dabbled with CardPointers in the past, so I’ll need to get some more hands on experience with it to make a video on that. I’ll add it to my list though and will start using it more to see how I like it! Thanks for the suggestion and the kind words man!

  • @OakandIV
    @OakandIV Pƙed rokem +3

    This was a good video, thanks. I have had MaxRewards gold for a while. The benefits tracking is not reliable. However, the offers activation does work. I also like the option to mark certain offers as favorites, to remind myself to use them if I get the opportunity.
    The security implications of linking some or all of my credit cards to a phone app worry me, but everything I’ve read online seems to suggest that it is as safe as anything else we do with our cards.

    • @marcusyoung5440
      @marcusyoung5440 Pƙed rokem +2

      For what it’s worth, I hear Cardpointers may be safer because they don’t keep the card info. I’m still figuring out which I should use.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem +1

      Thanks for saying that Robert! And yeah I can see that my offers are being activated on my Chase and Amex cards which has been great! It’s awesome to see how many are activated at once. I definitely don’t have the time to activate those myself! And that’s definitely a good way to use that favorites tab. Being able to come back to some really good offers is never a bad thing! And as for safeness, I agree with you. It sometimes can be a bit daunting, but at the same time, that’s what’s great about credit cards. You’re spending the banks money and not your own, so if you did get an account hacked it shouldn’t be the end of the world. Thanks for always watching and talking with me in my videos Robert!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem +1

      At then end of the day, as I mentioned to Robert above, the nice thing about credit cards vs. debit cards is the fact that your personal information is generally not at risk since you’re spending the banks money instead of your own. It would definitely not be ideal to have your information hacked, but if that was happening a lot with any of these apps, I think they’d go under pretty quick. To me that shows that they all have some pretty great safety measures, knock on wood!

  • @SledgeIncTeam
    @SledgeIncTeam Pƙed rokem +1

    Good video. I've been using the free version for a while now. The only account that syncs for me is Chase so that's kind of irritating. I keep all my points valued at 1cent per point because I really can't rely on this app to value my points anyways without knowing how I'm going to use them. The best and most important part of this app for me is knowing what card to use where to maximize points.

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem +2

      It sounds like we use this app really similarly! And yeah that seems to be my experience with the syncing issues as well. I’m interested to see if MaxRewards gold will really be worth it. I feel like unless I go out of my way to use the offers then it won’t be, but who knows! May as well give it a shot. But yes being able to see what card to use where has been super beneficial for me too. Thanks for watching Sledge!

    • @SpencerJohnsonOfficial
      @SpencerJohnsonOfficial  Pƙed rokem

      I go back and forth on that. Mainly because having it at 1 cpp allows me to do a quick calc of how many points I have in total. That way whenever I go to use my points I know exactly how many I have. Then again, I could also set it to 2 cpp if I know I’m gonna use my points for travel, but I don’t always do that so I like to have it really simple on the app. I hope that kinda makes sense!

      It has definitely been a pain in recent past. I'm glad they fixed the Chase card issue, but I am also having similar issues with my Citi cards right now. I hope they get a handle on this soon because I do really enjoy the app as a whole.

      I’ve been having issues as well. They did send out an email stating they’d be giving their gold users a free month of Max Rewards Gold because of this and explained the situation in detail, but I’m hoping they get it resolved soon.

    And it is NOT A quick snapshot because you have to relog and re authorize the data syncing from all the cards EVERY SINGLE TIME! And it DOES NOT AUTO TRACK the bonuses, it does not auto track my 150.000 Amex Platinum rewards, would you like me to show you?
