  • I get to go visit my friend Ben and his family and check out his Kitfox 7 build. He has the Continental O-200 with Titan cylinders and Vetterman Exhaust. I love it! He is making some great progress. I can't wait to do some flying with him someday.

    Ben is doing an amazing job!! I love my O-200 Kitfox 7SS, though I did not build it. The engine was built up by Lycon, ported & polished with 10 to 1 pistons and it performs very well. If you ever get to the Cleveland area, contact me and we’ll go flying if you want. I’m in a hangar with 6 total Experimental aircraft (2 more under construction) at 7G8 with a very active and fun EAA chapter.

      The 0-200 almost cranks out twice as much torque compared to a 912, everyone gets hung up on HP but basically HP is torque x rpm so saying a 912 makes as much power as an 0-200 is a pipe dream

    Love it! I have a C150. I doubt they’ll let me put that exhaust on my 0-200 but I’ll inquire. I’m thinking of making my Cessna a tri gear STOL or build something. I like the freedom of the experimental and love the Kitfox! We’ll see which way I go. Thx for this video. Inspiring

  • @justinmeaders
    @justinmeaders Před 2 lety

    The MA3-SPA carburetor doesn’t typically perform well when turned sideways like it was on this build. You might see fuel starvation issues at high power settings on steep climbs. If it were my aircraft I would turn it with the data plate facing forward.

    • @jhaedtler

      @justinmeaders Před 2 lety

      Ben, I’m glad to hear you’ll be doing lots of testing. You may only see an issue in the extreme cases, but that’s when you’ll need it to work the most. The airplane looks awesome! I hope you post more updates as you move along. Good luck and be safe!

    pardon mi ignorance as im an auto machanic....why do i never see anyone using header wrap ? there are pretty easy ways to determine exactly how far down the pipe to wrap to get the most benefit power wise.....and it would also def keep more heat out from under the cowl.

    Hi, I have a Kitfox 7 with an O-200. My mixture operates backwards. I was not the builder but I’m trying to figure out a way to correct this. I did not see the mixture cable on yours.
    Any ideas?.

    • @johnkluenker
      @johnkluenker  Před rokem

      Hi Jimmy. First of all, sorry for the late response! Sometimes I don’t get the notifications about the messages. How do you like your seven with the O-200? Where do you keep it? Such a fun airplane! Very strange that the mixture would operate backwards. I wonder if the cable goes around some obstruction and is actually operating the control arm in reverse? It’s tough for me to picture here at home without looking at the unit itself. Have you taken a close look with the cowling off yet?

      @@johnkluenker I hear you, but that is probably the same thing said by every pilot who ever had one get away from them. I think it's a bad trend. There was a very experienced pilot who was killed in Texas late last year when the plane got away during maintenance. Why stand in the door when you can just as easily hop in the seat?
