To answer your question, what do I want out of life? To be honest I DON'T WANT TO WORK. I want to spend my day reading, sitting at the park chillin, watching ducks swim, crocheting, and watching Netflix. I just want to lounge around all day like humans are meant to do. We are not meant to work more than what we need for survival such as gathering food and building shelter. We aren't meant to commute 30 minutes to an hour to work and back every day, stand on our feet, sit at a desk all day working 40 hours a week. But since this is what society has become and I must work. My ideal job is to get a job where I can work remotely. When my daughter goes to college in a few years, I want to build a tree house to live near a lake and get an RV. I love nature and traveling. I want to travel all over the world, driving, or flying internationally and have the ability to take work with me then resort back to my little decked out tree house. I just want to have the luxury of seeing the world without being chained to a 9-5. Still working but working on my own time. People always talk about entrepreneurship like it is the best option to freedom but that really depends. Most entrepreneurs are chained to their business and work more than 9-5 workers. I don't want that. I do want a side business earning PASSIVE INCOME though. That is my ultimate goal and hopefully I'll achieve it within 10 years.
I did too, although I got my MBA in 2018 (part paid by my employer). I deleted my LinkedIn shortly afterwards. Still working for the same employer because they treat me and pay me well. I’m a RDH making six figures working in the DMV area with just an associates degree. Three years schooling and less than $30k loans. I have not intention of pursuing an advanced degree. I’m borderline cheap when spending my money 😂
Got my PharmD, but honestly, it was never about the title (my diploma is somewhere in my closet, I’ve only looked at it 5 times). I was a pharmacy tech in the military, I loved it a lot! I was learning everyday, so I decided to pursue a PharmD. Now I’m a pharmacist in the military and thinking about pursing my M.D. Still, it’s not about titles, it’s more about having a vision and putting in the work to make it a reality. The military paid for my PharmD and will pay for my M.D also.
@@fritzgabriel1995 much love and respect! Like yourself, I’m from the Caribbean (born in Jamaica). I had failed my CXC’s and I was always called a dunce bwoy 😂😂😂😂. I always knew I can achieve whatever I set my mind on. Coming to American made me realize how easy is it to achieve everything.
I am a LPN since 2014. Did not go back to school to persue titles. All my colleagues and friends moved on to become BSN or CRNP. But they had to give up alot to persue that. They are in massive debts, messy marriage, missed on their kids major milestones, and don't spend enough time with their kids and spouse. I got married in 2016 and been working full time in at assisted living, working 12 hrs shift 3 days a week making $35/hr. Currently have 3 kids, zero debts except for mortgage which my husband pays 100%. I have a strong 401k, invested in SP 500 mutual fund, and have a 6 months emergency fund. I spend my free time takink my kids to swimming lessons, dance lessons, football practices and music lessons. I don't see the need to run after titles. I believe that finacial freedom and spending time with family is the altimate life goal. Maybe i will go back to school someday, but that will be after my kid all go to college 😅.
Teacher here... It's cool go on and do whatever you wanna do with your life. But don't complain when we have a shortage of teachers, doctors, scientists and other fields who lack qualified African Americans. Especially in these modern times where black women have higher pregnancy related mortality rates. Existing outside of society is cool until you realize what you're not able to do alone. A serious skilled labor shortage is coming because your kids aren't interested in learning anymore
Okay but will you prefer a doctor whose passionate about his job or som1 who was forced to practice it because of a status or title ?? To serve you ????
😂You are absolutely correct my brother. I to am from the Caribbean and my parents did the same exact thing. Your father wanted you to be a Dr but mine wanted me to go to Law school 🤦🏾♀️. When you said Dr I heard the creole accent and I just started laughing my head off because I ventured out into the healthcare industry. Been a NP for 5 years and love it. My Mother is Diabetic and I get frequent calls from them back home inquiring about everything she’s going through so I definitely can relate. Thanks for the laughter. 👊🏿
Thank you for this video! More ppl need to realize this! If your degree doesn’t increase your pay or guarantee job security then there’s no point. It’s cool to say during conversation but going into over 100k worth of debt is not worth it.
In the engineering field, at least in NY, you need a bachelor's and a PE or else anytime u ask for a rasie, the company will always say "oh well we cant give you a raise because you dont have a PE". In some fields, you need a degree and certifications to use as leverage to ask for higher salary or a raise. In a perfect world it should be what you know is more important than a degree (a piece of paper). Unfortunately thats not the world we live in
Thank you for this video. I’m currently at university working on my bachelors in health science using student loans. I originally wanted to go the ABSN route because of my coworkers said adn is a joke. but I realized my health science bachelors degree would be worth nothing and I’ve lost motivation to pursue my degree. I make more as CNA. I been researching ADN programs instead. I prefer a small college and more hands on education.
I totally understand from your perspective, I am from the Caribbean too (Jamaica) and I went to a highly respected traditional high school and after I graduated I decided not to continue my education (I said this to myself since I was 12) and I can tell you that 8 years later I thank God every day that I made that choice. The only 2 issues I have with College/University is that it is too expensive and it takes up too much time bro.
As a fellow Haitian and RN myself, this is so relatable. I'm an artist and wanted to become a party planner and my parents would always tell me "sispann fe grimas" and go for someone that would allow me to eat instead 😂😂 Long story short, I hated and left bedside because it became too taxing on my mental health and body.
At 47 after perusing "my passion" opening a few moderately successful business, having one grown independent child. I realize that health is number 1, without it nothing else matters. Then, peace of mind is crucial for your health, so money is important, at least savings, investing. In short I live in a mediocre country, and now do Uber, I work when is good and have time, I live in spartan mode, and invest all my excess income for peace of mind. Life takes many turns, being in constant anxiety is the worst waste of time and a thief of joy.
7:27 It’s something wrong IF…you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.. ie to impress people Kinda like “keeping up with the Joneses” …typically you don’t end up better than them you end up just like them..broke. I’m a nurse too and it always amazes me how some nurses have to list ALL the alphabet at the end of their name. There were times (earlier in my career) where I thought..that’s a lot of debt 💸 unless they paid cash which most don’t. But I’m a firm believer that at the end of our lives when we stand before Almighty God He will not be one bit impressed with the amount of letters behind our name.
I'm FNP-BC because i didn't want to do bedside nor 3 12s. I can easily go get my DNP but its too much sacrifice for a little bit of cheese. Plus there's little to no difference in pay between NP and DNP. Have known quite a few who chased DNP and had strokes, nervous breakdowns, meltdowns. Not worth the stress.
Fritz is saving people alot of energy. I put the same mindset into my career goals same type of epiphany because I realized early at 20 in the ER that I better start moving differently. Great advice.
Def a great breakdown. Consumerism is the biggest issue. Ppl start earning multiple 6 figures and instead buying their time back they go crazy with stuff and vacations lol
He is absolutely right about everything. It’s crazy how much we put in degrees and employers just stealing time. I don’t want to be chasing anything. I don’t have my degree but I’m trying to do the best I can in my field. Cuz like you said freedom is more important.
There was no harm in you getting those degrees out of the way at this young age. You can continue patient care. When you get 47 or 57 you may decide to do something different. You will have both your good patient experience and your degree. I understand about the loans so just knock those out if you have them.
I want to get my degree because everytime they ask for the document I'm like 😊well i can do the job(tech industry). I leave like 35% on the table and I just want it for my EGO 😂😂😂 so, when i seat around other people i can have something to say about college!
Almost done with my masters...seeing that it's just another hamster wheel. WE are the key to our success. Not these sheets of paper. I feel you bro!...were.just building jewel encrusted shackles! Just chase your dreams and forget all the excess.
Exactly. Actually being born into this earth realm is an automatic enrollment into the university of life. The degree i want is self mastery the Dark night of the soul aka carrying the cross. The reward is in the afterlife.
I’m lucky . I never chased a title . Never wanted to be a boss. I went to school to be an RN . I worked hard enough to become debt free by living below my means. And now I get to work less and relax more 😊 . Having an older car, a smaller house means I don’t have a house payment or car payment. So I am so grateful and happy . Too people liked their paychecks and decided to buy nicer cars and bigger houses and nicer clothes and traveling . Well they now have to work to support a lifestyle.
I am a server and 29 years old as well. I work in a higher end restaurant located in a hotel with full benefits and all. 83k a year is what i make and I DoorDash on the side for extra money. Grew up in a dysfunctional family that told me to go to college and got me in debt. Paid off 40k in 18 months this past February. I hate when RNs think they're better than an LPN. Out of all my decades in Healthcare, I never found any difference between an RN and LPN, as it pertains to knowledge.
As a Haitian girlie this is so relatable! I wanted to be a chef got into culinary school and everything but it wasn’t enough for my mom bc being a chef wasn’t prestige enough. So I let it go and went to dental assisting school I hated it ☹️ now what do you see? Chefs or people who aren’t even chefs cooking making thousands on social media! left dental and I haven’t figured out what I wanted to do for school. I’m starting my own business soon.
Last comment but I completely agree. I am 33, I am sick of debt. I just want to do away with credit card debt, student loans, car. I don't have a house and don't want to buy one the "traditional way" just build my little tree house lol. I just want to be free of all of this stuff, save money, and pay everything in cash.
At the end of the day people got to make choices that are aligned with them. Sure most degrees are useless, sure you can get it out the mud do it your way and live life on your terms. However just know what you waking up and grinding for, the first task God gave Adam was to tend to the garden, get up and work. We all have to work. I’m about to apply to medical school to become a doctor. I’ll gladly take on the 400K to 500K loans. It’ll allow me to afford a comfy middle class lifestyle for my family and not struggle. Don’t care about the debt I’ll pay it off. That’s just what I’m aligned to, some people are aligned to working remote 5 days a week and traveling all the time. Cool. People just got to know what works for them.
I have degrees in geology, nursing and an MBA. The only degree that paid off was in nursing. I retired early with no debt and living below my means. I didn't go into management because of the added stress.
I totally understand where you are coming from but the good news is that you completed something. You achieved something and unfortunately my family is the same way. I earned a lot of respect when I graduated with my bachelor’s in HR Management. I am happy for you because you came a long way and at least finished something. Lol 😂
I have numerous degrees and a army veteran of 25 years and at the end of the day now that matters no one cares. My associates is for medical office admin and they’re teaching in high school.
Your speaking facts. My main reason for getting this degree is so I can be financially stable and have more time to spend with my kids. Point. blank .period. I need my time. ❤
A bachelors and masters is enough! Any other thing shud Myb be certs just to allow u learn the job and feed ur family. That’s wats important ability to feed family that’s y we go to school n work after school. Know wat u want in life.. if it CRNA then no need for masters . Get the RN save up for CRna school don’t get the masters just to have it.
When I got into Nursing 18yrs ago with an Associate degree I was satisfied. First in the family to finish college. I did get Med Surg Cert because the Hospital paid for it. I have no desire to go further. I knew I fullfilled my purpose when my brother, uncle and cousins went back for a degree.
I don't even have to watch your video to know what's up. Although I am going back to school in the fall for my Master's since I don't have to pay for it. I was considering getting my doctorate as well just for the title but I really don't need that. I am just going to get my Master's so I can change careers and get a better paying job.
Yea man I agree with your viewpoint all that debt is stressful, just to make a little extra $, I feel like a degree can lowkey be overrated I think people should look more into certifications like HVAC and etc, still good jobs available, which I prefer then being 100k in debt lol. Paying off Debt is so relieving man keep up the progress.

I agree with you brotha! 10 Army Veteran with a MS degree! After serving I was just over it man. I now focus on my family and just living it man. I started a trucking company and now just work for myself!!

That used to be me. I don't chase titles anymore. I chase anything that will give me financial freedom, freedom of time. Thanks for the video!
I just wanna say that there's nothing wrong about chasing degrees as long as it doesn't put you in too much debt.

I’m currently a lpn living within my means trying to clear up debt. this sh*t is a game excuse my French but to hell with goin back to school the more u make the more they take , u steady trying to reach something that seems to get further away from u. And you are absolutely right I’m focusing on the things that really make me happy rn. My heath is my wealth

What do you mean by that don't let too many people know about it?
You are a lifelong learner and that is very inspiring thank you for your service !🙏🏾
Yea that’s what I am talking about your eyes are open !
After your RN you can do your BSN online in 10 months. While you working
This is a totally different angle I didn’t even look at 😳! Facts !

Absolutely my man 🙏🏾

No matter what route you choose you got this ! I’m glad this video was able to help you in your journey !

That’s a fact man ! And time is the greatest asset! We can’t waste it man🙏🏾💫
As a fellow Haitian and RN myself, this is so relatable. I'm an artist and wanted to become a party planner and my parents would always tell me "sispann fe grimas" and go for someone that would allow me to eat instead 😂😂
Long story short, I hated and left bedside because it became too taxing on my mental health and body.
Did you pursue your dreams?
Yea did you !! ? Lol

7:27 It’s something wrong IF…you’re doing it for the wrong reasons.. ie to impress people
Kinda like “keeping up with the Joneses” …typically you don’t end up better than them you end up just like them..broke.
That’s a big fact🗣️ amazing perspective!
It just depends on the major. It also depends on your budget 😁. The same applies in the workplace too.

I really appreciate that 👊🏾🙏🏾❤️
This surreal to hear..

LPNs are some of the best nurses out there. Their knowledge is amazing.
