- Unboxing 2 BenQ PD2506Q to Test Display Port Daisy Chain on PC/Mac & Mini Review! This video will unbox 2 BenQ PD2506Q to show a comparison between a new retail unit vs refurbished unit to show the variation and what you can expect out of these units. In addition, I'll be specifically testing Display Port Multi Stream Transport (DP-MST) or in other words, Display Port Daisy chain to see if how it works and if it would work on a Mac, because we know that PC does support this feature when using USB - C with display port overlay and 2K. However, this pan out, DP-MST will work in exactly the same way on BenQ PD2705Q as well, their 27" 2K Pro Designer Series. And lastly this video will served as a mini review for the PD2506Q too, going over many of the highlight and some of the entry level short comings.

Hi Art - I'm preparing for an SW272U for Mac use and reading about DDC/CI control apps that, in the past, have allowed control of brightness from a Mac keyboard. However, notwithstanding compatibility with Apple Silicon M1/M2 Macs, it seems that volume control over DDC/CI had been omitted on previous BENQ models. Is it possible that this has been added to these new monitors? Also, does the Hotkey Puck (e.g. V3 in the new SW range) allow for control of volume via the headphone output e.g. for connected speakers? Thanks!
I'm going to test this and get back to you soon. If you don't hear back by earlier next week, please post what you asked in a new comment as a reminder.
Thank you for this nice review. I bought two of this monitors for my Intel Workstation Notebook and I use the two separate USB Type C Ports from the monitors connected on my Thunderbolt 4 Docking Station. Would you recommend or should I use Daisy Chain for better connection?
It does not matter really, either one works. If you need to free up a port then you can use the daisy chain but it is not necessary.
Thankyou for the review. I am starting my journey in Color grading so do you suggest this monitor or the Asus Proart PA278QV. Im rlly confused between the two, would appreciate it if you can help out
Everything being equal, I would say that BenQ does calibrate their display much better from the factory vs Asus
Hi. I have a question regarding the BL2485TC model from BenQ. I want to daisy chain two monitors of this model but don't have a USB-C port that supports display. Would it be possible to do that with connect the one monitor to an HDMI port on my laptop and then daisy chain the two monitors with the DP cable? Thank you in advance
Can't be done. Lot of criteria for daisy chain and the display must support that
Hi Art, what do you think about the PD2705U monitor? Is it good for video work? Thank you again. You helped me before with my synology. Its really is super fast now thanks to your help.
For REC709 works yes. For P3, I would look at the PD2706U / UA instead
@@ArtIsRight Thanks, Art, there does not appear to be a PD2706U right now, maybe soon, I was looking for adjustable height stand.
Just the plain "U" should be coming to the US later this year.
Thanks for this review. I was going to buy 2 of these displays and organize daisy chaining for my MPB 16 m1 pro. But now I see that this setup isn't working. I'll have to connect each monitor directly to the Mac.
Seems that the only way for daisy chaining on Mac is to buy one monitor with Thunderbolt go through and connect the second USB-C monitor to the Thunderbolt out port of the first monitor.
Yes and with a "Pro" Chip or higher as well.
Then for my mac studio if i need to connect 2 monitors pd2506q and pd2706u i have to connect both the display cable directly to mac studio?
Is it not possible for mac to monitor and monitor to monitor ?
Direct from Mac
Hi, I have a question regarding Daisy Chain, If I use 1st monitor as BenQ which support the functionality and the second monitor of some other brand that has USB-C. Will I be able to connect both monitors to my windows laptop.
1st monitor, BenQ is USB C to USB C, the other one, daisy chain, has to be Full Display Port on the BenQ side and in general full or mini Display Port on the other end. I have not tested Full Display Port to USB C, it could work, so let me know if you find out.
Hi Arts. I've been thinking of getting this BenQ PD2506Q or BenQ EX2710q (Both for less than 300$ - My budget) specifically for my design work, which one should I pick?
PD series
Hi Art, I am planning to buy a PD2506Q as I am into designing, does it work together with both Mac and Windows, also can I see the screen Simultaneously! If No, Which Model shall I go with type c option that too in a budget...Thanks in advance.
Yes work with both. Setting both simultaneously, not sure if this model support this or not. I know that PD3220U can do this, not sure of the other ones.
This is not about this video. I was going through the set up for calibration on Ventura and they have 5 options for (P3-65. Which one would be the best?
You are referring to reference mode on Pro Level Mac Displays you can watch the videos on this playlist to find out czcams.com/play/PLjlr8rlxl_q5jBT6sp5aUrTfctBJ4U43J.html
Hi. I recently bought this monitor for video work and a have two questions. The calibration report says it is calibrated to Display P3 color space. If i change it to Rec709/Gamma2.4 would it be as accurate as the factory calibration? My concern is about Display P3 primaries wich are different from Rec709/sRGB primaries. Does the monitor has different precalibration profiles inside or these adjustments are just gamut and transfer function restrictions that doesn't take in account the misalignment of different primaries from different color spaces? Thanks in regard.
The calibration report says it is calibrated to Display P3 color space.
All color mode on this display is pre calibrated not just Display P3
If i change it to Rec709/Gamma2.4 would it be as accurate as the factory calibration?
Factory calibraiton is accurate to factory but not your computer. That is why we custom calibrate to minimize variations.
@@ArtIsRight thank you so much for clarifying ♥
Can you educate on how gaming monitors like the AOC AG274QG can claim they reproduce P3 @ 102%? There are loads of gaming monitors out there claiming they can reproduce wildly high percentages of large gamuts.
They can, but it does not necessary mean they are accurate. It is easy to expend the color gamut past a boundary volume, but with gaming monitor they are not necessary accurate.
Is it good for programming or can you please suggest some better options in the same budget?
You can, and I know BenQ just released an RD Series specially for programming, I might give that a look as well
Nice review! I am a UI/UX Designer. Primarily I use Figma, XD, Photoshop and Illustrator. I have mac book pro and Dell laptop. I have 2 model in mind, PD2506Q or PD2705Q. Which one would you suggest on display aspect for native resolution?
They are really close, budget for for 25, if you budget is not an issue go for 27
Is the low blue light eye care feature permanently built in, or can it be disabled / turned off? I'll need to turn it off to do accurate photo editing. Also, is the color accuracy delta
There's a specific color mode for low blue light, just don't use that one. This model the ∆e is below 3 but most the time out of the box it is below 1.5
@@ArtIsRight So the low blue light is optional? Good to know.
And I guess the calibration report will provide the actual delta figure?
Thanks!
Yes low blue light is always a color mode not something that is on all color mode. Calibration report will tell you ∆e for the panel but not necessary when hooked up to your computer or any computer really. But you'll be close.
Does this model have an e-paper or a reading mode?
yes it does have e paper mode
Hey, I’m considering a monitor for my filmmaking work. I need a monitor with accurate colours but Confuse with Benq PD2506Q and LG 27UP650 W both are at a same price but differs in LG one has 4K 10bit and 95% DCI -P3. Which one will be a right choice.
These 2 are not the best comparison, for this you have to look at PD2705U or PD2706U or UA model. These would be more equivalent. About LG 10 bit, it is done via 8 bit + FRC similar to BenQ. You are going to get a good display either way. From what I can tell you, BenQ does a better job calibrating their display in the various color modes at the factory.
@@ArtIsRight I have to agree with you, in these but the models you suggested are costing above my budget! My main concern is to get workaround for my Videography and Editing. Main is for the price should I go with the 8 bit Top notch calibration or 10 bit with lesser type calibration in LG.
Good question, for what you need and your budget LG may be the more appropriate option in this case.
Hi Art, I am planning to buy PD2506Q and I do have MacBook Pro 2019 15 Inch , Do you suggest the combo , mostly i do photo Editing. I am in dilemma if my MacBook Pro from 2019 is compatible or not for this Monitor . Please Help
Compatible yet, Mac are just computers with display output signal at the end of the day. They will work with each other.
Thank you @@ArtIsRight
Anytime!
Do they have to touch to work? I have 2 GW2485TC and have connected them exactly like you said and on the Monitor 1 I went into system and selected MST per instructions and only Laptop and Monitor 1 work…
This is my laptop I have: Lenovo Legion Pro 5i 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600) Gaming Laptop - i9-13900HX
No But I would contact your local BenQ support for help on this
@@ArtIsRight I actually got it to work by using USB-C 3.2(2nd gen), no DisplayPort/HDMI/ADAPTER needed.. Works perfect with 2 separate USB-C 3.2(2nd gen) cables… I just had to walk away from it and clear my mind, I build and repair computers and laptops(Windows/Mac) and knew it was something simple, so NOT ALL laptops/computers require DisplayPort/HDMI/ADAPTER in order to have 2 external monitors. lol, is BenQ hiring testers/tutorials? If so. I’m interested..
good
Sir I have a pd2506q and M2 ultra mac studio i have connected to monitor via 3.1 cable and i am thinking to purchase pd2706u for this setup i have to bring connection from studio or should I bring connection from pd2506q ?
You can't daisy chain a 4K display from a PD2506Q, you have to directly connect that to your Mac.
@@ArtIsRight sir other than usb 3.1 which cable should i use , as I will be doing editing and colour grading work?
Benq provided which cable USB 3.1 gen 1 or gen 2 in box ?
Just use the provided cable.
can I connect first monitor via display port on the PC and then connect to second monitor via USB-C of the first ?
No, daisy chain is not bi-directional and it is one way only
@ArtIsRight thanks 😊 few hours ago I tried and failed
I have one PD2705U. It's a beautiful display. But unlikely, I can't attach the screen bar, that I buy on Amazon. This monitor is too fat 😢
it depends on the screen bar design, BenQ one does fit :)
Unfortunately Apple never has and probably never will support daisy chain. Apple is and has been really limiting Displayport functionality on their machines for years.
I know 😕
