Nixnie is a tiny 009 (or H0e, if you like) layout only 80 x 55cms, showing what can be done in this popular narrow gauge modelling scale against modest expenses. The track, structures and scenery were built using mainly inexpensive or second-hand materials. Locomotives and rolling stock are part ready to run H0e, part kitbuilt and scratchbuilt models. A historic model on the layout is a tiny Bagnall wing tank built by my friend, the late Reinier Hendriksen.

I thought that my favorite gauge was G gauge, but rediscovering 009 changed that. Beautiful layout. BTW, anyone that would give this a thumbs down has emotional problems.

I see Nova Scotia Steel & Coal has running rights on your busy little railway!
Quite the interesting assortment of locos and rail trucks; it prods me to do something with the pile of 9mm cars, engines, and accessories I have waiting in a nice little cabinet for me to get off my, uh, chair and build something.

Always fancied making a 009 layout myself, but put off by watching jerky/stalling/off like a rocket loco's on other You Tube examples. Your loco's run brilliantly, so either you area genius or a lot of people are just not doing it right lol. Anyway, thanks for renewing my interest and giving me the incentive to have a go myself.

    • @tedpolet5431
      @tedpolet5431  Před 7 lety

Thanks, Brian. The secret making old-fashioned 9mm gauge mechanisms (1970s-1980s era) run well is to make sure they are in good mechanical shape, and to use a good controller.
I use the KPC controller, which is off the market, but there are good alternatives - the Trax controller or the Varipulse controller, which are both almost as good as the KPC.
In addition, more modern mechanisms such as the (H0e) Liliput of Minitrains ones have a high-efficiency motor and better gearing. They will run well on almost any power supply.
Good luck having a go at 009.

Hi Ted, I really enjoyed your layout and maybe I'll use your design for my little Eggerbahn layout that I like to build this year with old Egger tracks and some of the new Minitrains rolling stock.
But I guess my layout will not be as fine as yours.
    Cheers, Gerd

Hi Ted, I have long been an admirer of your work. On Nixnie I was wondering how you operate the points? On the video it sounds as though they are motorised but there is no evidence of above board motors and I know that the layout is built on 50mm of solid polystyrene so I assume fitting motors below the board isn't straight forward. Cheers Ian

Ted, I just love this layout and I want to build a Nixnie for me as I have limited space.
Could you give me the track plan?.PLEASE??? I would like to know where the track goes when out of sight. Is it a continuous loop?
This layout is fantastic and you have sparked the motivation for me to start buliding again. How long did it take to make?

Well, money's a bit tight at the moment (unemployed) so content myself with viewing other's layouts. One day.
Also I'm in New Zealand and 009 is nonexistent.
