  • BJP in Karnataka is unlikely to break 38-year-old Jinx and retain power in the upcoming assembly elections as internal friction and divisions have dented the party, Professor Manor tells ThePrint’s Political Editor DK Singh and Sharan Poovanna in #PoliticalAdda-

    People dont understand Karnataka. BJPs only main stay is its Hindutva root in Karnataka. In entire South India RamjanmaBhomi ground swell of support was from Karnataka. At one point of time BJP had power only in Karnataka, Gujarat and MP. BJP doesnt have a lingayat root but it is the lingayat who support the hindu root. In this state VHP is stronger then RSS.

    My assessment was the same as that of Prof. Manor, two months ago. But the following factors have given rise to doubts:
    1. The Central schemes for the poor and their effective delivery;
    2. The rise in the number of first time and young voters and the effect of campaigning by parties on their voting pattern;
    3. The lack of effective Congress leaders in Northern and Central Karnataka;
    4. The role of Seers and Mutt heads in the light of BJP's efforts to reach out to them; and finally
    5. The reputation of Modi-Amit duo to swing elections.
    I guess we all have to eagerly wait for voting and the results and the subsequent analysis

    Clearly anti incombency is strong and the break up is less relevant.🤫🫢
    Congress is dynastic party and the outlook of the party owners alone matters. Often times Cong has overturned the expectations in appointing surprise and weaker candidates in state leadership including for the CM post. Dynastic policies and politics are different and often whimsical. 🧔😴🤸🤠✋
    BJP always used imagination, innovatioin, creativity and grassroot organization to lure the electorate accross the country in diverse scenarios and challenges for winning and government formation. Perhaps it is nearing saturation. 🍧🍺
    For the first time in a decade BJP and Hindutva apear to be in crisis. This is the same situation Congress faced after decades of success. Like Congress, the BJP is turning on the state power to curb opposition in combination with media, money, muscle, reservations etc. This is recipe for curruption, devision, disparity and mistrust leading to the decline and demise. 🍽️🫗
    Leaders of the backward and lawless states like Yogi and Biswas are used in the election campaign. State BJP president Nalin is nowhere and other prominent BJP leaders from Karnataka are treated with less importance!?? 😩🤦
    Is Karnataka a soft target for BJP? 🤔
    Hindi appeacement?🤥🤫🫢
    BJP is allowing dynastic practices with selected influential leaders in violation of their policy. 😊🤸🤫
    Why BJP is not doing great in Karnataka is of their own making. 🤔😂
    BJP has completely missed the point and misjudged the mandate they received which was for development and eradication of corruption. What the people got is exactly the opposite. 👍👎
    BJP perceived the mandate had communal origin. It wasn't and infact BJP tried to force certain decisions without considering the aspirations and sentiments of the people who choose to elect them. 🪷🤸👎
    Any political party that promises change and economic security cannot be ignorant of the indigenous culture and sentiments. BJP has failed repeatedly and miserably in this count. Clearly people are feeling alienated from the political process which doesn't suit their likes and preferences. People are averse to the hegemonic & grand proclamations. People suspect the very nature and motives of a political party which is increasingly agenda driven. 😩🤠
    BJP has committed serious miscalculation in selecting the candidates and in dropping few. This has further alienated even the traditional staunch supporters. 😴
    There is huge trust deficit against BJP this time. And this puts them in the same category of other two options available to the voter i.e. Cong & JDS. The voters are left with very little choice and the challenge is to elect the best among the worst. ✋💃🪷
    On the ground Karnataka is lagging behind neihbour states. Bangalore is in complete mess. Corruption and violence have grown and income is declining. ✋😷🪷
    The people of Karnataka should get good infrastructure and a lawful, progressive govt which they deserve.✊
    Satyamev Jayate! 🪷

    1999 was the last time when a non BJP party became the Single largest party, after that BJP has been the single largest party, be it in Loksabha or Vidhan sabha. I know you will shout 2013, but it was an aberration, BJP was split into 3 parties in 2013, even then BJP(3 parties together) lost only around 1% of its vote share. Bjp has a solid voter base. Now BJP has Modi, and many people have benefited from central government schemes. Bajrang dal issue has negated the anti incumbency among BJP supporters. Looks like BJP is headed for a simple majority or may be more. Even if BJP can not get to majority, it will be the Single largest party. Not sure why election pandits can not see this simple fact.

      - Vokaliggas voted for jds mostly in 2018, as there was no other big vokaligga face.
      All of this, yet congress managed to get 80 seats, and 38.2% of the vote share. BJP couldn't go further 104 with 36.3% vote share.
      This time, there is stronger anti incumbency for bjp govt, lingayats are divided throughout the state... Vokaliggas too are going to vote for Congress more than the last time because of the DKS. BJP cm face is Bommai whose popularity is less than even kumaraswamy.

    If Modiji was convinced that bjp is losing karnataka he would have abandoned his campaign totally. Hence after his roadshow in Bangalore it's confirmed bjp is winning.

      Sorry its illogical. Now the media has kicked up a modi wave which is not there and EC will adjust the EVM accordingly to spoil Congress's party and declare results like last time to take to resort politics and JD(S) will eventually get back their election expenses. The purpose of PM's visit is just to get back through back door or window Lets wait and see.
